Requirements
  • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Six months or more of previous experience working with children, such as in camps, child care, tutoring, nannying, or coaching.
  • Ability to model and demonstrate the YMCA values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty.
  • Ability to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and perform required visual tasks.
  • Ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • All employees and volunteers must adhere to abuse prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and comply with mandated reporting requirements.
  • Job offers are contingent on the results of a background check.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate group games, arts, and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics activities in a drop-in care program.
  • Supervise a group of children to ensure their health and safety and provide a positive experience for each child.
  • Implement program activities and assist in planning activities when asked.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Engage professionally with parents and guardians to provide pertinent information about their child's experience and promote upcoming programs.
  • Ensure that toys and equipment are clean, safe, properly set up, and properly stored.
  • Attend required staff meetings and training programs.
  • Support Parents Night Outs, birthday parties, family nights, and other events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience planning and implementing group activities.
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations, including differences in language, culture, race, physical activity, and sexual orientation.
  • Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
