About the Job

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, with the corresponding minimum work experience: 4+ years for a Bachelor's, 3+ years for a Master's, or 2+ years for a PhD.
  • At least 2 years of work experience with a programming language such as C, C++, Java, or Python.
  • A BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 6 years of experience with embedded systems such as ARM, RISC-V, or MIPS, along with strong programming skills.
  • Working experience with low-level programming on bare metal, BIOS/UEFI firmware, Linux kernel, RTOS, or device drivers.
  • A systems mindset and experience developing software or firmware to control analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard EDA tools and digital verification methodologies.
  • Familiarity with hardware description languages such as Verilog and SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with SerDes, Ethernet, PCIe, or D2D/UCIe products and communication systems.
  • Hands-on lab experience validating CPU, SoC, FPGA, MCU, and DSP components and developing tests and debug tools.
  • Knowledge of peripherals and protocols such as 1G/10G Ethernet, DDR, I2C, SPI/QSPI, MIPI/CSI, GMSL, A2B, I2S, TDM, LVDS, PCIe, USB, NVMe, and CAN.
  • Bring-up and diagnostics experience with high-speed signals.
  • Experience creating error-monitoring and board/interface configuration APIs.
  • Fluency with bring-up tools such as oscilloscopes, JTAG debuggers, and I2C/SPI tools.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, and willingness to learn and address technical challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Gather requirements, study high-level designs, develop device interface functions, and turn small building blocks into higher-level firmware system designs.
  • Work with multifunctional teams to define detailed bring-up and validation requirements, collaborating with ASIC/digital design, digital verification, software, and systems engineers to meet performance goals.
  • Communicate requirements and coordinate execution with multiple teams.
  • Translate bring-up and validation requirements into efficient C/C++ firmware code and organize software as applicable.
  • Oversee the SERDES PHY firmware lifecycle from pre-silicon design through post-silicon validation and optimization.
  • Develop for test and debug to guide hardware design decisions for future product iterations.
  • Implement and use software-industry best practices to ensure high-quality firmware designs.
  • Develop and document firmware and hardware design specifications and decisions.
  • Mentor junior engineers, promote team building, and improve processes and techniques.
  • Debug, identify root causes, document, and drive low-level software, silicon, and hardware issues to closure.
  • Drive multifunctional teams and partners to resolve integration and bring-up challenges, ensuring chips are brought up, validated, and tested and meet product and business requirements.
  • Own assigned systems or components, manage timelines, and resolve project challenges to meet program timing.
  • Work with external vendors or customers to ensure requirements are met and releases are high quality.
  • Plan and develop test cases that improve reliability and release quality for internal and external stakeholders, and ensure they are continuously tested in regression.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience developing device drivers for multiple devices at the PCB level to interact with complete systems.
  • Experience with embedded Linux development, Buildroot, Yocto, and RTOSes such as Zephyr and FreeRTOS.
  • Experience working with FPGAs, Xilinx, Zed, or MicroZed.
  • Hands-on hardware and debugging experience, including power, signal integrity, and EMC validation and tuning.
  • Experience with Jira, Agile/Scrum, and Confluence.
  • Open-source project experience.

About the Company

Qualcomm

Designs mobile chips and licenses wireless patents

Qualcomm designs the Snapdragon processors and modems inside many Android phones, and it licenses its wireless patents to device makers around the world. It helped commercialize CDMA, the cellular technology behind 3G networks, and its patents cover core parts of the 4G and 5G standards that phones use to connect. The company does not run its own chip factories; contract foundries make its chips, which it sells to makers of phones, PCs, cars, and connected devices. Device makers also pay Qualcomm royalties for using its patented technology, which forms a second business alongside chip sales. Qualcomm was founded in 1985 and is based in San Diego, California.
