carsales unveils new retail channel and some AI tools.

carsales unveils new retail channel and some AI tools. Fri, 23rd Oct 2026 (Yesterday) carsales has outlined a new automotive retail channel for carmakers and dealer networks at its Open House '27 event in Sydney. The proposal is designed to help original equipment manufacturers and dealers reach buyers earlier in the purchase process, guiding them through research, comparison and ordering in one place. At the event, carsales also introduced new AI-assisted shopping tools for consumers and formally launched Iggy, an AI-based intelligence platform for marketers. The Australian new car market has become more crowded and fragmented, with 79 brands competing for buyers and 54 models now on sale that were not available a year earlier, according to carsales. New car buying journeys can now stretch to six months, with shoppers weighing several brands before deciding. Nicholas Bailly, General Manager, Advertising at carsales, said the shift has intensified competition for attention across the buying journey. "More brands are competing for Australian car buyers than ever before, and consumers are less loyal than we've ever measured. Every one of those purchase decisions gets made somewhere. Our commitment is to help automotive brands influence those decisions in the place people already trust to find their next car," Bailly said. Retail model Under the model, consumers would be able to discover vehicles matched to their needs, compare options, configure a vehicle and connect with retailers through a single experience. The approach is intended to combine product discovery, automotive content and retailer links as buyers move from early consideration to action. carsales says 60 per cent of car intenders on its platform are already considering a new vehicle. It argues this creates an opportunity for carmakers and dealers to align more closely with consumers already active on the site. Ollie Nugent, Head of Consumer Product at carsales, described the concept as a more connected journey for buyers and sellers. "We see an opportunity to bring more of the new car journey together, from research and comparison through to decision-making and the ability to place an order, all in one connected journey that closes the loop. It's about giving consumers choice in how far they want to take the journey on carsales, whether that's researching, enquiring, booking a test drive, or even progressing through to placing an order. For dealers, this could create further opportunities to connect with more informed, purchase-ready buyers. For OEMs, it opens up the potential for a new retail channel that brings them even closer to consumers as they move towards a decision," Nugent said. The strategy reflects a broader push by automotive marketplaces and classified platforms to move beyond listings and advertising into transaction and retail activity. For manufacturers, that offers another route to consumers at a time when brand loyalty is under pressure and digital research is taking a larger share of the purchase journey. Iggy launch Alongside the retail vision, carsales formally launched Iggy within Ignition, its self-serve advertising and campaign management platform. The tool is designed for marketers and uses natural language prompts, allowing users to ask business questions and draw insights from several data sets without switching between systems. Iggy brings together AI agents focused on audiences, inventory, competitors, campaigns, measurement and creative insights. The system draws on more than 16 million logged-in members, 3 billion automotive shopping signals each quarter, VIN-level inventory data and transaction signals, according to carsales. The aim is to help advertisers better understand buyer behaviour and purchase intent, and to connect marketing activity more directly with commercial results. That has long been a challenge in automotive marketing, where advertisers often have large volumes of audience and campaign data but less visibility into which interactions actually influence a sale. Stephen Kyefulumya, General Manager, Media Product & Technology at carsales, said the issue is not a shortage of information but how it is connected. "The industry doesn't have a data problem, it has a connection problem. Marketers have access to more data than ever before but limited visibility into what's actually influencing purchase decisions. With Iggy, we're using agentic AI on Australia's largest automotive data set, delivering automation with intelligence to help brands connect marketing activity to real commercial outcomes," Kyefulumya said. The announcements build on the company's One Platform. Every Advantage. strategy, which aims to link consumer experiences, retail functions and marketing intelligence within the same ecosystem. In practical terms, carsales is seeking to strengthen its role not only as a marketplace for car shoppers, but also as a channel through which manufacturers, dealers and advertisers can target, influence and measure demand. Iggy is now live within Ignition.

Carsales closes the consumer-dealer-sales loop & launches 'Iggy' for marketers.

Carsales closes the consumer-dealer-sales loop & launches 'Iggy' for marketers. Published on: 15th October 2026 at 10:31 AM Comedian Elizabeth Hoo (once a marketer) and Westpac economist Matthew Hassan were among the highlights at the Carsales Open House event in Sydney. Carsales has claimed it is the only platform that can take a car consumer throughout the whole journey to a bonafide sale. Instead of being the platform where car buyers can research, find and connect to sellers, it now allows consumers to financially commit to a sale - whether it's a new car order or a second hand deal - with a few clicks. And helping car manufacturers and dealers connect to consumers throughout that journey is Carsales new AI-powered intelligence answer machine, Iggy. Residing within Carsales' Ignition platform, the self-serve advertising and campaign management platform brings together specialised AI agents across audiences, inventory, competitors, campaigns, measurement and creative insights. It uses natural language that allows marketers to ask practical business questions, identify opportunities and move quickly from insight to action without navigating multiple tools, models or data sources. Iggy draws on more than 16 million logged-in members, 3 billion automotive shopping signals each quarter, VIN-level inventory data and transaction signals to help marketers better understand buyer behaviour and purchase intent. "The industry doesn't have a data problem, it has a connection problem. Marketers have access to more data than ever before but limited visibility into what's actually influencing purchase decisions," GM of media product and technology Stephen Kyefulumya, said at Carsales' Open House event in Sydney this week. "The industry doesn't have a data problem, it has a connection problem. Marketers have access to more data than ever before but limited visibility into what's actually influencing purchase decisions. "With Iggy, we're using agentic AI on Australia's largest automotive data set, delivering automation with intelligence to help brands connect marketing activity to real commercial outcomes." A highly competitive car market. With 79 brands competing for Australian car buyers, and 54 models on sale that didn't exist a year ago, the automotive landscape and path to purchase is becoming increasingly complicated. Chinese manufacturers are flooding the market with EV models being launched every other week. Carsales is trying to simplify and streamline the process by introducing new AI-assisted shopping experiences, retail capabilities, audience intelligence and attribution and Iggy. "More brands are competing for Australian car buyers than ever before, and consumers are less loyal than we've ever measured," Carsales GM of advertising Nicholas Bailly said. "Every one of those purchase decisions gets made somewhere. Our commitment is to help automotive brands influence those decisions in the place people already trust to find their next car." Carsales Open House '27 showcased how a future retail experience on how it could help consumers discover vehicles tailored to their needs, while giving OEMs and dealer networks more ways to engage buyers at the right points of their purchase journey. Ollie Nugent, head of consumer product at Carsales, said: "We see an opportunity to bring more of the new car journey together, from research and comparison through to decision-making and the ability to place an order, all in one connected journey that closes the loop. "It's about giving consumers choice in how far they want to take the journey on Carsales, whether that's researching, enquiring, booking a test drive, or even progressing through to placing an order. "For dealers, this could create further opportunities to connect with more informed, purchase-ready buyers. For OEMs, it opens up the potential for a new retail channel that brings them even closer to consumers as they move towards a decision." Carsales is also revving up its branded content game. In the past year it ran video content series Out There, Idle Talk and Fuel for Thought, which have notched up 1.39 million watch minutes since March, with 70 per cent on connected TV. Next year, Carsales is launching three new shows, Beyond the Map, Machines of the Land and Inside the Helmet. 'We're back in the pits again' Westpac senior economist Matthew Hassan provided the room with an economic outlook to open the event. His entertaining fireside presentation with host Lizzy Hoo was forthright but upbeat. "In terms of whether we're in pole position or in the pits - obviously, we're back in the pits as far as the economy goes for a little while. "Coming out of COVID, we had supply chain disruptions and quite a bad bout of inflation. Things seem to be coming right in 2025, we got the green flag, rates came down a bit, and we started to take off again. "But we have maybe had an oil spill early this year, another flare up, and we're back in the pits, getting sorted before we can really get going again." The oil spill Hassan refers to is the US/Israeli war with Iran, which has sent fuel prices skyrocketing and exacerbated a cost of living crisis that had already been set on fire by US president Donald Trump's tariff wars and Russia's war with Ukraine. This has left the average Aussie consumer pessimistic about the economy, notching up an 85 point rating against a baseline of 100 points. What is interesting about Westpac's analysis is how varied different voters are about the economic outlook. For example, men are much more optimistic than women, Baby Boomers are much more optimistic than every other generation, property investors are cheering but minor party voters (aka Pauline Hanson supporters) "want to burn the joint down". Hassan had a clear message for marketers that is often overlooked. "Out in pole position at the moment is over 55s. That subgroup is now about 40 per cent of all households in Australia. Their share of vehicle spend has risen by about 8-9 points since 2020 and they are financially well placed," he said. "Their net worth is around, on average, $2.5 million...and they're pretty happy to spend. When they spend, they spend more on new products." Enjoying Mumbrella? Sign up for our free daily newsletter. Built entirely in house, Nexgate arrives with a bold identity and modern platform experience, developed to signal a genuine step change in what carsales does for its customers: from a place to list vehicles, to the system dealerships and OEM retail teams run their businesses on. The brand was created around a simple idea: one connected platform. Nexgate brings vehicle sourcing, inventory management, pricing and customer engagement into a single view, with carsales' first-party market data and AI embedded across every layer, turning real buyer signals into recommended actions inside the workflow. carsales holds the largest audience in the auto category, every single month, grounding Nexgate in real-world signals vehicle retail businesses can't get anywhere else. "We wanted a name that was memorable and distinctly ours. One that matches the transformation we've undertaken, while still feeling like carsales," said Rafael Constantinou, EGM - Marketing, Content & Customer at carsales. "Nexgate is a reflection of how we want all of our customers - dealers, OEM partners and consumers - to experience carsales: simpler, more connected, and created around the way they actually work. Consumer expectations keep rising, and this gives our partners the technology to meet them." "For us, 'Next' is a commitment to keep moving, keep evolving and keep building beyond what was possible before. It's a proud moment and there's still a lot more to come." The platform is designed to work alongside the systems teams already use, replacing scattered information, reports and logins with one place to see what matters and act on it. "Time is one of the most valuable resources in any dealership," said Craig Fraser, Chief Executive Officer at carsales. "Teams have more information available to them than ever before, but turning that into confident decisions quickly isn't easy. Nexgate was built to help. It brings the insights and tools dealerships and OEMs rely on every day into one place, helping them see opportunities sooner and focus their time where it matters most. The goal isn't more information, it's knowing the next best move." Following a teaser campaign that began with the brand's reveal at the 2026 Australian Automotive Dealer Association (AADA) Convention and ran across out-of-home and dealer publications, Nexgate launches with digital and social activity, alongside direct-to-dealership activation landing in showrooms around the country. From launch, every dealer partner can explore the full Nexgate platform, with more capability set to roll out over the months ahead. Nexgate marks a significant investment in the technology that dealerships and OEMs rely on, as carsales continues to develop tools that help them operate more efficiently, respond faster to market conditions and be ready for the consumer of today and tomorrow.
