Constellation Brands shifts focus from consumer worries to marketing as Q2 revenue rises 6.1% to $2.63B

Constellation Brands has changed its message to investors. On its fiscal Q2 2027 call on October 7, 2026, management said higher marketing spending is working and that the company gained more dollar share in beverage alcohol than any rival that quarter. A year earlier, it stressed that 80% of surveyed consumers worried about the economy. Revenue rose 6.1% to $2.63 billion, after a 3.3% fall in fiscal Q1 2027. Beer made up 91.0% of fiscal 2026 revenue at $8.32 billion, down 2.6%. Pacifico is growing about 20%. Marketing is expected to reach about 10% of net sales in the second half of fiscal 2027. The company expects comparable earnings per share at the high end of its $11.20 to $11.90 range. Part of the quarter's gain came from distributor restocking. The stock trades at 11.6 times earnings, against 22.9 for the S&P 500.

Constellation Brands beats Q2 estimates despite softer beer demand, buys SpikedAde for $75M

Constellation Brands reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 earnings of $3.74 per share on $2.63 billion in revenue, beating Wall Street expectations of $3.56 per share and $2.54 billion. Beer revenue rose 5% to $2.47 billion, though depletions fell 0.6%, with Modelo Especial down 2% and Corona Extra down 5%. Chief executive Nicholas Fink said consumers now treat beer as occasion-driven rather than default purchases. Hispanic consumers account for 40% of beer revenue but face labour market and household finance pressures. To diversify, Constellation acquired SpikedAde, a spirit-based ready-to-drink brand, for $75 million upfront plus up to $278 million contingent on performance. The company raised its full-year reported EPS outlook to $11.85–$12.55 from $11.50–$12.20.

Constellation Brands, maker of Modelo Especial and Corona, reported fiscal second-quarter adjusted earnings of $3.74 per share on $2.63 billion in revenue, surpassing Wall Street estimates. However, beer depletions declined slightly during the quarter, indicating softer consumer demand. The company is tailoring products for specific occasions and younger drinkers, focusing on sports and music events. Constellation acquired SpikedAde, a spirit-based ready-to-drink brand, for $75 million upfront, with potential payments reaching $353 million. The deal provides entry into the fast-growing RTD segment, where premixed cocktail sales grew 16.4% in 2025 to $3.8 billion.

US futures dip ahead of FOMC minutes as SpaceX seeks $40B for Nvidia chips

US stock futures edged lower on Wednesday as investors awaited minutes from the Federal Reserve's September policy meeting. Dow futures fell 108 points, or 0.2%, whilst S&P 500 futures remained broadly unchanged and Nasdaq 100 futures declined 0.1%. The Fed minutes could provide additional insight into policymakers' views on inflation and the future path of interest rates. Market expectations for another rate increase have declined following weaker-than-expected employment data. SpaceX is reportedly seeking to raise approximately $40 billion to finance purchases of Nvidia chips, according to the Financial Times. The proposed financing would include $10 billion in bank loans and $30 billion of investment-grade debt. Constellation Brands shares fell in after-hours trading despite reporting second-quarter results above market expectations.
