Requirements
  • Thoroughly understand aircraft components, including powerplant, electrical systems, and radio-frequency systems, and troubleshoot aircraft issues.
  • Understand FAA, International Civil Aviation Organization, and Department of Defense flight operational procedures.
  • Understand flight standards, airworthiness, and safety requirements.
  • Understand Defense Contract Management Agency procedures and reporting.
  • Author and edit technical orders and compliance procedures.
  • Understand accountability and management procedures for government contract property.
  • Understand training and evaluation procedures.
  • Possess strong knowledge of unmanned aircraft procedures.
  • Review, interpret, and apply industry standards, including FAA and International Civil Aviation Organization standards, and ensure compliance with program requirements.
  • Quickly learn new air vehicle systems, technical manuals, and procedures.
  • Maintain aircraft logbooks and complete required paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Be a current and qualified Air Vehicle Operator–Instructor, or meet the prerequisites for upgrade and complete the upgrade within three months of starting.
  • Have a high school diploma, General Educational Development credential, or equivalent.
  • Hold at least an FAA Private Pilot License with an instrument rating.
  • Have at least two years of LEA Family of Systems experience.
  • Have at least 100 manned flight hours acting as Pilot in Command.
  • Have at least 500 LEA Family of Systems flight hours as Pilot in Command.
  • Hold a current FAA Class II Medical Certificate.
  • Be a United States citizen with a valid United States passport.
  • Hold an active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance or higher.
  • Meet Department of Defense contractor deployment requirements and pass a Combat Readiness Course.
  • Pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Professionally interface with management, customers, peers, flight and ground crews, and air traffic control.
  • Work extended hours or shift work when required.
  • Work in a team environment while accomplishing mission requirements.
  • Have aviation work experience in a CONUS or OCONUS deployed location.
  • Meet requirements for CONUS and/or OCONUS duty.
Responsibilities
  • Act as Pilot in Command of an Unmanned Aircraft System while supporting daily flight training, test, production, and operational sorties.
  • Safely and effectively operate the unmanned aircraft system.
  • Provide Mission Coordinator or Mission Commander support when not acting as Pilot in Command.
  • Perform mission planning and coordination under varying airspace conditions.
  • Maintain current situational awareness of mission operations, target environments, and associated operational methods and infrastructure.
  • Follow government defense-industry policies and procedures related to aircraft operations and customer requirements.
  • Meet or exceed performance standards in the master training syllabuses.
  • Formulate training programs, lesson plans, and schedules based on identified training and system needs.
  • Select instructional methods such as group instruction, simulation exercises, and computer-based training.
  • Organize and develop training manuals, testing and evaluation guidelines, and educational materials.
  • Train assigned personnel in tactics, techniques, procedures, policies, and technologies.
  • Maintain pilot and instructor qualifications and currency.
  • Provide instruction in areas where currently qualified.
  • Conduct Initial Qualification Training, Mission Qualification Training, Local Area Orientation, and Difference Training as required.
  • Train all tasks to required performance standards.
  • Execute flight operations safely and immediately correct breaches of flying safety or flight discipline.
  • Participate in or assist with safe operations and recovery.
  • Work in compliance with and enforce flight, training, standardization and evaluation, and flight and ground safety procedures.
  • Support internal audits and performance reviews and track data for internal customers.
  • When appointed as an evaluator, conduct 18-month, no-notice, and spot evaluations, complete associated paperwork, and document trends.
  • Perform other related duties as directed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience as a flight instructor.
  • Current qualification as an Air Vehicle Operator–Instructor on the LEA Family of Systems.
  • Experience as a Flight Test Engineer.
  • Completion of Test Pilot School.
