Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • At least 12 years of progressively responsible experience in corporate or executive communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including experience managing senior communications teams.
  • Experience developing and executing integrated communications strategies that include public relations and marketing.
  • Experience advising leadership and internal stakeholders on communication and engagement strategies.
  • Ability to develop and implement integrated communications strategies that support institutional goals and enhance reputation across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Strategic thinking, judgment, and decision-making skills for navigating high-stakes and sensitive issues with discretion, nuance, and professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities, including the ability to inspire, manage, and foster collaboration across teams.
  • Ability to balance strategic priorities with operational execution in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences and channels.
  • In-depth understanding of the higher education landscape and the communication and engagement needs of students, faculty, staff, and global audiences.
Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Senior Vice President, University Relations and Public Affairs, the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, university leadership, and external university partners to advance the University's strategic communications plan.
  • Coordinate execution of the University's strategic communications plan across the division.
  • Serve as a core leader in University Relations and Public Affairs change management and help shape the department's structure and function.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing team, including establishing an Executive and Institutional Communications function.
  • Coordinate communications across the University community, schools, centers, students, faculty, and employees.
  • Align university and leadership communications by leveraging the institution's channels and voices to foster community and integration.
  • Coordinate and convene university partners outside University Relations and Public Affairs to establish a cohesive approach to storytelling and communication.
  • Foster collaboration among school-based communicators and their teams to share strategy and messaging.
  • Assist university leadership in responding to internal and external higher-education issues and navigating complex stakeholder and governmental environments.
  • Work with the Senior Vice President to coordinate crisis response and communication.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, or another relevant field.
  • At least 5 years of experience within an academic institution, large company, or government agency.
  • At least 10 years of extensive experience across multiple communication areas, including public relations, marketing, and social media.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in crisis communications.
