Dutch fintech Adyen sees long-term India opportunity, plans local expansion.

Dutch fintech Adyen sees long-term India opportunity, plans local expansion. 09 Sep 2026 12:47PM (Updated: 09 Sep 2026 02:57PM) Add CNA as a trusted source to help Google better understand and surface our content in search results. MUMBAI, Sept 9: Dutch payments processor Adyen plans to expand its India operations and hire more employees as it bets on the country's fast-growing digital payments market and rising cross-border commerce activity, a top executive told Reuters. The Amsterdam-listed company, one of the world's largest fintech firms providing payments services and financial solutions, sees India as a long-term growth market both due to multinational clients entering the country and Indian businesses expanding overseas, its Asia-Pacific President Gary Yang said in an interview on Tuesday. "We're continuing to hire and grow because we see significant opportunity in the market," he said without sharing India-specific growth or hiring targets. Global payments firms including Stripe and PayPal have struggled to establish themselves in India. Stripe scaled down its India operations in 2024 citing regulatory challenges, while PayPal exited domestic India payments in 2021 and now focuses on cross-border transactions. Adyen on the other hand has steadily expanded its India presence since receiving payment aggregator and cross border licences in 2024. Its local employee count has risen tenfold since 2023 to 120 in the first half of this year. The company's pre-tax income from India more than doubled to 3.18 million euros ($3.5 million) in 2025 from 1.45 million euros a year earlier, annual reports showed. Adyen's global operations generated net income of 1.06 billion euros ($1.23 billion) in 2025. The payments processor, which counts tech majors such as Uber and Microsoft, among its major clients, is working with firms including software giant Adobe that are seeking to expand their Indian payments suite. Adyen is also helping Indian clients such as travel platform Oyo expand abroad, Yang said. The Dutch firm has been adapting its platform for India's unique regulatory and payments landscape to meet data localisation requirements as well as provide recurring payment mandates and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services, according to Yang. "There is no succeeding in India without UPI," he said. India's UPI is one of the largest instant payments network in the world, processing billions of transactions every month. The company is also positioning itself for the rise of AI-powered "agentic commerce", where software agents could search for products and complete purchases on behalf of consumers. Reuters reported last week that National Payments Corp of India is preparing a framework that would let AI agents make small digital payments without approval for every transaction. Adyen partners Limitless Technology to streamline payment infrastructure.

Adyen partners Limitless Technology to streamline payment infrastructure. Adyen, the global financial technology platform, has announced its partnership with Limitless Technology Group, a gifting e-commerce firm headquartered in Melbourne, to streamline the firm's payment infrastructure across its portfolio of brands and markets. As Limitless Technology expands its portfolio and geographic footprint, its payment infrastructure needs to keep pace with different brands, markets and customer preferences. Through Adyen, the group can use data to support business intelligence, e.g. keen understanding of customers' preferred card mix to inform card-linked offers, the duo said in a statement on Monday. "Managing payments across multiple brands and markets becomes increasingly complex as a business grows, "Partnering with Adyen enables Limitless Technology to simplify its payment operations and gain deeper visibility into their transaction data, driving smarter, data-led decisions as the business scales," said Soon Yean Lee, Country Manager, Malaysia, Adyen. It is noted that with brands like Flower Chimp, CakeRush, Bloomeroo, LVLY and Happy Bunch, Limitless Technology operates across six markets and manages its online storefronts, order fulfillment and business data through a centralized technology platform. Today, all five brands leverage Adyen's direct local acquiring across Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore, alongside cross-border transactions for the Philippines and Indonesia. The speed of rollout moved at the pace of the business, with Limitless Technology successfully bringing more than 10 online stores live across four markets within just one week. By consolidating four payment gateways into one, the company standardized its payments reports across markets and brands, leading to faster and simpler reconciliation on the backend. "Gifting is ultimately about the connection between people, and technology should make that connection easier, not more complicated, "Payments are a fundamental part of that experience, and Adyen helps us ensure this happens smoothly behind the scenes, so our brands can focus on the moments they are helping customers create," said Niklas Frassa, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Limitless Technology Group. It is noted that gifting is a highly seasonal business, with occasions such as Valentine's Day and Mother's Day driving significant spikes in demand. During these high-transaction periods, the ability to complete a purchase without issue becomes particularly important. In fact, research from The Adyen Retail Index 2026 found that 26 percent of Malaysians abandon a purchase if they encounter a payment error, citing security or trust concerns. To combat cart abandonment, Adyen equips Limitless Technology with a native checkout solution that eliminates page redirects while supporting local payment methods - thus delivering the trust, convenience, and familiarity modern shoppers expect, even during busy gifting periods.

Adyen appoints Nicole Olbe EMEA President.

Adyen appoints Nicole Olbe EMEA President. Adyen has appointed Nicole Olbe as EMEA President, effective September 1, expanding her leadership remit after three years as the financial technology company's UK Managing Director. After three years leading Adyen's UK business, Nicole Olbe is stepping into a broader regional leadership role as President for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, effective September 1, 2026. Olbe will succeed Alexa von Bismarck, who is moving to San Francisco to become Adyen's Senior Vice President of Global Account Management. A transition period is underway to support the handover across regional operations. The appointment expands Olbe's responsibilities considerably. As EMEA President, she will be accountable for the region's performance and continued growth, with a mandate spanning commercial execution, cross-functional strategy and operational alignment. Adyen said its existing organisational structure across EMEA will remain unchanged. Olbe brings more than 20 years of experience in global payments and FinTech. Before joining Adyen, she held senior leadership positions across merchant acquiring, payment acceptance and strategic partnerships at Barclaycard and Verifone. Roelant Prins, Chief Commercial Officer at Adyen, highlighted Olbe's global payments experience and inclusive, team-first leadership approach, saying her ability to connect regional requirements with the company's wider commercial strategy would be valuable as the business expands. For Olbe, the new position builds on leadership experience already developed within Adyen. She will remain based in the company's London office, while maintaining a regular operational presence across its EMEA locations. Her September appointment brings an experienced internal leader to the regional presidency while von Bismarck moves into an expanded global role, creating leadership continuity across both EMEA and Adyen's wider account management organisation.
