Requirements
  • Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
  • Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline from an accredited university is required; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.
Responsibilities
  • Address complex design challenges, optimize actuator performance, design specialized igniters, pressure vessels, solid rocket motor systems, hot gas valves, and rocket thrusters.
  • Generate complex actuator designs, conduct performance analyses, and implement design solutions.
  • Perform trade-off analyses, integrate multidisciplinary considerations, and provide recommendations for design optimization and decision-making.
  • Design intricate two-dimensional and three-dimensional models, use advanced computer-aided design commands, and generate technical drawings.
  • Interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerancing symbols, analyze engineering drawings, and provide guidance on dimensional and tolerance requirements.
  • Create intricate three-dimensional models and contribute to solid modeling practices within the software.
  • Characterize ceramic and insulator materials, develop customized solutions, conduct research, provide expert consultation, lead research projects, and optimize metal selection.
  • Analyze refractory metal types, properties, behavior at extreme temperatures, and processing techniques.
  • Develop communication strategies, presentations, specialized technical documents, and audience-specific narratives.
  • Build complex simulations, validate models, interpret dynamic analysis results, optimize structural designs, and address thermal management challenges.
  • Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, statistical tolerance analysis, and virtual inspection techniques.
  • Optimize designs, select materials and processes, and specify quality-control checks including nondestructive testing methods.
  • Lead assembly teams, perform composite fabrication, set up and program machining equipment, and perform molding, casting, and welding tasks.
  • Perform assembly and integration for testing, including the handling of energetics.
  • Collect and preprocess test data, perform statistical analyses and visualizations, operate and calibrate measurement instruments, and acquire test data.
  • Develop test plans, identify objectives, define procedures, and create schedules for simple test scenarios.
  • Conduct mass analyses, identify opportunities for mass reduction, and propose optimization strategies.
  • Identify risks, analyze failure modes, and implement reliability and safety measures.
  • Lead small teams, develop procurement strategies, evaluate vendors, analyze supplier performance, and manage contracts and schedules.
  • Analyze grain-burning characteristics, propellant chemistry, combustion principles, grain geometry, internal ballistics, and solid propellant manufacturing processes.
  • Design simple control systems, interpret diagrams and specifications, and implement basic algorithms.
  • Elicit and prioritize stakeholder requirements and document requirements using standard templates.
  • Apply solid rocket motor performance principles, including thrust, specific impulse, and propellant combustion.
  • Contribute to battery design, cable and wire harness design, circuit board design, rocket motor ignition systems, and software design tasks.
  • Identify common avionics components and connections and contribute to basic software designs under standard specifications and guidelines.
