Formula 1 and Leica unveil £7,300 special-edition camera.

Formula 1 and Leica unveil £7,300 special-edition camera. The Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition pairs a racing-inspired finish with Leica's Q3 43 camera, and goes on sale on October 21 for £7,300. by Simone Scanu · Oct 21, 2026, 8:11 AM · Updated Oct 21, 2026, 8:12 AM Formula 1 and Leica have joined forces on a special-edition camera, combining the Leica Q3 43 with styling drawn from motorsport. The Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition is available from October 21 and costs £7,300. The release targets fans who want more than conventional team merchandise, with a camera designed to capture both paddock life and action on track. Its Formula 1 identity is worked into the finish rather than changing the underlying model: the special edition is based on Leica's Q3 43. Racing details set the edition apart. The camera's exterior uses handcrafted carbon-fibre components, with black Microvelour covering inspired by racing steering wheels. Red accents provide a subtle contrast, while official F1 branding appears on the top plate and lens cap. Leica and Formula 1 logos also feature on the rope strap. Together, the design choices give the Q3 43 a motorsport-specific look without obscuring the fact that it remains a version of Leica's existing camera model. The collaboration brings together two brands whose shared focus on precision, craftsmanship and attention to detail is central to the product's pitch. Leica's high-end photography meets Formula 1-inspired styling, with the camera presented as a tool for recording everything from life around the paddock to fast-moving track scenes. For fans more focused on following the action than photographing it, its guide to keeping up with Formula 1 offers another way to stay close to the sport. Readers can also explore its coverage of Formula 1's qualifying format. A premium price for a specialist piece of F1 merchandise. The camera can be bought through Leica stores or the company's online shop. At £7,300, it sits well beyond the price of ordinary fan apparel, placing the emphasis on specialist photography equipment as much as on its Formula 1 design. For photographers drawn to the combination of Leica's Q3 43 platform and racing-inspired detailing, the new edition offers a distinctly branded option. For everyone else, the price may make a phone camera feel considerably more appealing.

F1 breaks into unexpected market with 'inspired' new product and partnership.

F1 breaks into unexpected market with 'inspired' new product and partnership. Formula 1 has announced the release of an "inspired" new product, a camera, to kick off a partnership with Leica. Yesterday, 23:55 F1 and Leica Camera have launched a special-edition Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 camera, the first product to emerge from a new licensing partnership between the sport and the German optics manufacturer. The Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition has been priced at 9,950 US dollars, 7,300 British pounds and 8,500 euros, and will be sold through Leica Stores, the Leica Online Store and specialist retailers. The camera's design draws directly on motorsport. A non-slip microvelour covering modelled on a racing steering wheel wraps the body, while carbon fibre, a material not traditionally used in Leica products but a mainstay in motor racing for combining low weight with high rigidity, forms the visible structure on the handgrips and thumb rests. A Formula 1 logo sits on the top plate and lens cap. Leica has also developed an exclusive colour profile for the camera, delivering higher contrast and richer saturation to capture the atmosphere of the track and paddock. The look is accessible through the Leica FOTOS app and can be applied live while shooting, appearing in the viewfinder rather than only during post-processing. The same app transfers images and video to mobile devices. Part of a wider push. The camera is the latest in a run of consumer licensing deals struck by Formula 1 beyond the racetrack. The sport has signed agreements covering board games with Hasbro, building toys and collectables with Lego and Mattel Hot Wheels, trading cards with Topps, and book publishing with Dorling Kindersley. Leica Camera and Formula 1(R) announce licensing partnership and the Leica Q3 43 Formula 1(R) Edition.

Leica Camera and Formula 1(R) announce licensing partnership and the Leica Q3 43 Formula 1(R) Edition. Oct 20, 2026, 23:00 ET This special edition camera will combine photography and motor racing, perfectly embodying their shared values: precision, teamwork and craftsmanship. All for the decisive moment. LOS ANGELES, Oct. 20, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - Two long-established brands, Leica Camera and Formula 1(R), have announced their collaboration as part of a licensing partnership and will debut a special edition Leica Q3 43 Formula 1(R) camera at an exclusive event at the Leica Store and Gallery on Oct. 20th, 2026. The collaboration will be presented to guests by Formula 1 presenter Ariana Bravo and 2009 FIA Formula 1(R) Drivers' World Champion Jenson Button. A series of 26 motorsport photographs by Callo Albanese will also be on display at the event. The Italian photographer specializes in Formula 1 and motorsport photography. Both brands have a long tradition of innovation. Driven by this spirit, they created a camera that enables exceptionally authentic photography and translates the fascination sparked by motorsport into a handcrafted design. This is achieved through features including a wireless charging handgrip with a carbon fiber shell, a soft-release button with a carbon inlay and red rim, and a matching thumb rest. Its details also include a non-slip Microvelour covering modelled on a racing steering wheel, an F1 logo on the top plate and lens cap, and a rope strap included in the set that is in keeping with the carbon fiber components and bears both brands' logos. This is craftsmanship from Leica, inspired by the world of Formula 1. A Partner When It Matters Most: The Decisive Moment Formula 1 races take place in an environment exerting the highest technical demands. Performance does not stem from a single element, but from the precise interplay of components and team members. All of these factors are united by a commitment to keep fine-tuning this interplay throughout an entire season. A Leica camera is created with a similar approach: the optics, sensor, design and mechanics are fine-tuned until there is nothing that stands between the photographer and their subject. Leica Camera and Formula 1 share the same values: excellence, precision, courage and the pursuit of perfection. They are also united in the certainty that success is decided in fractions of a second and in moments that cannot be repeated. Whether it's in the cockpit or behind the camera, the responsibility for success lies with one person. Craftsmanship with a Racing Spirit The visible fiber structure on this camera edition is made from genuine carbon. This material is not traditionally used in Leica cameras. In motor racing, however, carbon is the defining material because it combines low weight with extreme rigidity. The carbon fiber parts for the Leica Q3 43 Formula 1(R) Edition have been manufactured and tested exclusively in Germany. This creates a cohesive look from the handgrip to the thumb rest and soft-release button, and the exceptionally even finish makes the craftsmanship palpable. Light falling on the surface emphasizes the texture, giving it shifting visual depth with every movement. Carbon fiber is positioned at the key points where the camera is held and operated. The connection to motorsport is therefore not just visual, but can be felt with every shot. The carbon fiber is complemented by a black Microvelour covering whose texture is modelled on racing steering wheels. That's also where the idea for the red accents came from: the control elements on the steering wheel are color-coded to help the driver find them quickly. The soft-release button and one of the two function buttons on the thumb rest feature the same color scheme. The set is completed by a special carrying strap featuring F1 branding and custom-designed packaging with red inlay. Every detail reflects the same level of precision demanded on the track. The Leica Q3 43 The Leica Q3 43 provided the technical basis for this special edition. With a focal length of 43 millimeters, the APO-Summicron 43 f/2 ASPH. lens provides an angle of view that closely resembles the way the human eye naturally perceives the world. There's no need to zoom, search or miss the moment. This is particularly beneficial in the paddock and around the racetrack, where atmosphere and proximity are key to capturing the authentic essence of the scene. Thanks to Triple Resolution Technology, the BSI CMOS full-frame sensor provides the option of 60, 36 or 18 megapixels. A fast hybrid autofocus system and extensive video functions complete the package. 'Formula 1' Leica Look The new Leica 'Formula 1' look was specifically developed for this camera to create a rendering that complements the world of motorsport. Higher contrast and richer saturation capture the atmosphere of the racetrack and paddock in the final image. This look is available exclusively on this camera via the Leica FOTOS App, and can be applied immediately while taking photos so that the effect is visible in the viewfinder, rather than only emerging during post-processing. The same app then transfers images and videos to mobile devices. Thus, the collaboration between Leica Camera and Formula 1 is not only reflected in the materials and design, but also in the visual aesthetic itself. Availability The Leica Q3 43 Formula 1(R) Edition is available starting on October 20th, 2026 at all Leica Stores, in the Leica Online Store and from specialist retailers. The retail price is $9,950. This edition is compatible with the Leica Q3 and Q3 43 photography accessories. ABOUT LEICA CAMERA Leica Camera AG is an international, premium manufacturer of cameras, lenses and sports optics. Leica goes full throttle with a carbon fiber Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition camera.

Leica goes full throttle with a carbon fiber Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition camera. A steering wheel-inspired grip, red control accents and an exclusive F1 color profile kick off a new licensing partnership. Summary. Leica Camera and Formula 1 have announced a licensing partnership, starting with a special edition of the Leica Q3 43 Genuine carbon fiber, made and tested in Germany, appears on the handgrip, thumb rest and soft-release button, a first for Leica's design language The camera debuted in Los Angeles at an event hosted by F1 presenter Ariana Bravo and 2009 World Champion Jenson Button Leica Camera and Formula 1 have joined forces through a new licensing partnership, and their first collaboration is the Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition. Built on the full-frame Q3 43, the special edition brings materials and cues straight from the cockpit to Leica's compact, led by genuine carbon fiber components and a grip texture modeled on a racing steering wheel. Carbon fiber is the headline material, and it marks a departure for Leica, which has not traditionally used it on its cameras. In motorsport, the material is prized for pairing minimal weight with high stiffness, and here it shows up exactly where hands make contact: a wireless charging handgrip with a carbon shell, a matching thumb rest and a soft-release button with a carbon inlay ringed in red. Every carbon component was produced and tested exclusively in Germany, and the visible weave catches light differently as the camera moves. The rest of the body takes its lead from the driver's seat. A black, non-slip Microvelour covering mimics the feel of an F1 steering wheel, while red accents on the soft-release button and one of the two function buttons on the thumb rest reference the color-coded controls drivers use to find inputs at speed. F1 logos sit on the top plate and lens cap, and the set includes a rope strap carrying both brands' logos, all housed in custom packaging with a red inlay. Underneath the racing trim, the hardware is pure Q3 43. Its APO-Summicron 43 f/2 ASPH. lens offers a field of view close to natural human sight, a fixed perspective suited to shooting in the paddock and trackside without reaching for a zoom. The BSI CMOS full-frame sensor uses Triple Resolution Technology to shoot at 60, 36 or 18 megapixels, backed by fast hybrid autofocus and a broad set of video features. The edition also works with existing Leica Q3 and Q3 43 accessories. Leica developed a dedicated "Formula 1" Leica Look for the camera, delivering punchier contrast and deeper saturation tuned to the colors of the track. The profile is exclusive to this edition through the Leica FOTOS app and can be applied while shooting, so the effect is visible in the viewfinder in real time rather than added in editing. The same app handles image and video transfers to mobile devices. The launch took motorsport culture as seriously as the hardware. The camera made its debut on October 20 at an exclusive event at the Leica Store and Gallery in Los Angeles, where Formula 1 presenter Ariana Bravo and 2009 FIA Formula 1 Drivers' World Champion Jenson Button introduced the collaboration. Guests were also treated to an exhibition of 26 images by Callo Albanese, the Italian photographer known for his Formula 1 and motorsport work. The Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition is available now at all Leica Stores, the Leica Online Store and specialist retailers for $9,950 USD.
