Requirements
  • A high school diploma, GED diploma, or equivalent is required.
  • Certification through an accredited program of the American Society of Anesthesia Technicians and Technologists is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required based on organizational requirements.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40–50 pounds, push or pull patients and stretchers, stand and walk frequently to continuously, and perform role-specific activities such as kneeling, bending, squatting, and CPR is required.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain anesthesia equipment in optimal working condition and coordinate removal and repair of malfunctioning equipment with biomedical services or vendors.
  • Prepare daily equipment and supplies according to case and age-related specifications, including equipment for intravenous and invasive lines.
  • Assist anesthesia clinicians in preparing the environment and patients for surgical, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures throughout all phases of anesthesia care.
  • Perform supply-management and clerical functions, including use of applicable software and programs.
  • Disinfect anesthesia equipment according to applicable protocols, including fiberoptic scopes, transesophageal echocardiography scopes, and glidescopes.
  • Carry a communication device to remain reachable during the workday and for urgent needs.
  • Handle and deliver laboratory specimens and blood products as assigned.
  • Support department initiatives involving cost savings, operational efficiency, and quality improvement.
  • Clean and organize anesthesia workrooms, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist with patient transport when appropriate.
  • Travel between facilities as assigned when necessary.
  • Mentor and help onboard new anesthesia technicians when assigned.
  • Perform daily quality controls, maintain proficiency, and run specimens on point-of-care testing devices for the anesthesia department.
  • Set up and operate patient-care equipment such as fiberoptic scopes, Belmont devices, rapid infusers, cell savers, and jet ventilators.
  • Troubleshoot anesthesia equipment and monitors and respond promptly to anesthesia-provider requests for assistance.
  • Take call when applicable and perform other assigned duties.
