Piedmont Heart at Lakeside Commons in Macon to launch women's heart clinic. Published: September 27, 2026 Macon, Ga. (September 28, 2026) - Piedmont Heart at Lakeside Commons is helping women take a proactive approach to their cardiovascular health with the launch of a new women's heart clinic. Beginning Oct. 1, cardiovascular assessments will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and are designed for women who want to better understand their heart health risks and learn how to prevent heart disease before problems develop. The one-hour appointment is conducted by a nurse practitioner and includes a comprehensive heart health evaluation, personalized counseling and recommendations based on each patient's unique risk factors. The assessment is intended for preventive care and is not specifically geared toward patients with known heart disease. "Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for women, yet many women are unaware of their personal risk factors," said Robbi Brett, NP-C, nurse practitioner at Piedmont Heart at Lakeside Commons. The women's heart assessment includes: Complete Health History * A detailed review of personal and family medical history, lifestyle factors and other conditions that may affect heart health Physical Examination * A comprehensive physical assessment that evaluates overall cardiovascular wellness and identifies potential concerns. Electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG) * A test that records the heart's electrical activity and can help identify rhythm abnormalities and other heart-related issues. Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) * A noninvasive screening that compares blood pressure measurements in the arms and ankles to help detect peripheral artery disease and circulation problems. Point-of-Care Laboratory Testing * On-site testing that includes: * Fasting Glucose - Measures blood sugar levels and helps identify diabetes or prediabetes, both of which increase cardiovascular risk. * Lipid (Cholesterol) Testing - Evaluates cholesterol levels, including those that may contribute to plaque buildup in the arteries and increase the risk of heart disease. Outside Laboratory Testing * Venipuncture is also performed for additional laboratory testing: * Lipoprotein(a) - Identifies an inherited risk factor that can increase the likelihood of heart disease and stroke, even in otherwise healthy individuals. * High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (HS CRP) - Measures inflammation in the body, which may be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Customized Heart Health Report * Patients receive a personalized report summarizing results, risk factors, recommended lifestyle modifications and next steps. Piedmont's Women's Heart Support Network * Patients will have access to: * A robust calendar of events featuring speakers on various wellness topics as well as heart-healthy cooking workshops. * Weekly exercise classes, weekly yoga and meditation. * Access to group and individual wellness coaching sessions. Following the assessment, the nurse practitioner may order additional testing if needed. Patients with findings that require further evaluation will be scheduled with one of the practice's cardiologists, Zoe Jones, M.D., or Amy Kingman, M.D. Women interested in scheduling an assessment may call 404-772-8328.
