"I'm the king cork-sniffer of vintage amps... but you cannot deny the fact that it sounded, at least to my ears, better and more consistent": Fender unveils Joe Bonamassa's Tone Master Twin - is it really better than the tube version? Published 5 hours ago The Tone Master '59 Twin-Amp JB Edition is here, and it's got some lungs on it. Joe Bonamassa tells Music Radar Company how it more than held its own in the Amp Shanty Joe Bonamassa has been teasing this. Having nailed his colours to the mast as a high-profile convert to the tonal capabilities and practicality of the digital guitar amp, he has now officially put his name to one, with Fender and the blues guitar superstar unveil the Tone Master '59 Twin-Amp JB-Edition. Finished in tweed, replete with vintage flourishes such as the chicken-head knobs on the control panel, this monster signature combo amp is created in the image of his original high-powered 5F8-A Twin from the late 1950s. It, too, is loud enough to send plaster falling from the walls. It similarly has that super-quick attack and the headroom required to play clean at volume (Music Radar Company has heard this amplifier, and it is obscenely loud in the best possible way). And yet there are no tubes involved. Latest Videos FromMusicRadar 5 songs powered by the Prophet 5 Music Radar Company is in Prophet-5 mode, as Music Radar Company celebrate five decades of the first 'proper' polysynth with five - ok six - glorious tracks Just look at image at the top of the page. Joe Bonamassa is more Charley Patton than Charles Atlas; there is no way he is lifting a tube-equipped Twin like that without turning purple or popping a hernia. This is one of the big selling points of Fender's Tone Master series, a range of amps that offers classic Fender amp tone in a more lightweight package, and adding some of the convenient features Music Radar Company see in today's digital designs. This is one Twin you can carry up the stairs. Bonamassa's Tone Master '59 Twin-Amp also has a balanced XLR out, with switchable onboard cab sims (you can customise these IRs with the Tone Master IR Manager app) for going direct. It has power scaling, taking it from a full-throated 85-watts down to a more bedroom-friendly half-watt setting via a five-way rotary dial. There is no question that this signature amp is a major coup for Fender. Given Bonamassa's standing as one of the great curator's of vintage amps, chief product officer of its Electronics and Digital divisions, Max Gutnik, describes the launch as a historic moment for the industry.

Fender brings back john 5's Ghost Telecaster and introduces new Phantom.

Fender brings back john 5's Ghost Telecaster and introduces new Phantom. John 5 is bringing a couple of very non-traditional Telecasters to Fender's lineup. The company has reintroduced the Ghost Telecaster while also launching the new Phantom Telecaster, with both models built around a stripped-down, high-output approach to the classic T-style design. The Ghost returns after previously being offered as a limited-run model, this time manufactured in Indonesia to bring the price down. It features an Arctic White finish with red binding and accents, a Nyatoh body, C-shaped maple neck, maple fingerboard with a 9.5" radius, and a pair of DiMarzio D Activator humbuckers. The new Phantom shares much of that same DNA, but swaps in a black finish, ebony fingerboard with a 12" radius, and a Floyd Rose FRTS2000 Special double-locking tremolo. Both guitars feature a single Volume control, a kill switch, and a three-way pickup selector mounted on the upper horn. In other words, these aren't exactly your grandpa's Telecasters. John 5's signature designs are built for high-gain playing, dive bombs, and plenty of kill-switch abuse while retaining the instantly recognizable Telecaster silhouette. Fender is also offering a Custom Shop version of the Phantom for players with considerably deeper pockets. That model features an Alder body with Ultra Contours, a 10- to 14" flat-laminated ebony fingerboard, Luminlay side dots, and the Floyd Rose setup. The Custom Shop Phantom carries a $6,000 price tag, while the standard edition goes for $1,299.99.

Fender debuts hum-canceling Silent System in two new guitar models.

Fender debuts hum-canceling Silent System in two new guitar models. By News Oct 05, 2026 Fender has launched two new guitar models featuring the debut of the Fender Silent System, which is designed to eliminate unwanted electrical hum from single-coil pickups. Fender's Limited Edition American Professional Classic Stratocaster and Telecaster are the first new models to feature the Silent System, delivering classic, unadulterated single-coil tone with virtually no 60-cycle hum. More details on those instruments are included below. But first, the burning question: What is this hum-cancelling system all about? Offering a solution to the 80-year-old problem of pickup hum, the Fender Silent System isn't simply another "noiseless" pickup. Rather, it's a passive, battery-free system built into the instrument itself. Designed to nix single-coil hum from almost any installed pickup, it gives players more control over their guitar sound without compromising on tone. The system employs a "dummy coil" nestled snugly in a special rout carved into the guitar body's cavity. The coil is connected to the guitar's internal circuitry - the pickup selector, volume/tone pots, and the pickups themselves. The system is invisible once covered by the pickguard; even when viewing the guitar up close, there's no sign of the hum-canceling technology working inside. Fender's Silent System is certainly not the first dummy-coil system designed to eliminate 60-cycle hum. This type of technology traces its origins back to the 1950s. But it's Fender's most ambitious - and heavily researched - foray into creating a single-coil-equipped guitar that delivers classic tone without the hum. Premier Guitar asked Steven Casado, Senior Design Engineer at Fender, for more details about the development of the Silent System. Casado's career stretches back to high school, when he began building pickups in his parents' garage at 16 years old. During his tenure at Seymour Duncan, prior to joining Fender, he worked on pickups, pedals, and the company's PowerStage amp designs. Since coming to Fender in 2018, Casado has been a key contributor to the company's Panorama tremolo system and Quadra Tap humbucker, as well as custom signature pickups for artists like Jimmy Page, Eric Johnson, Michael Landau, Kingfish, Susan Tedeschi, and Mike Campbell. Fender's Steven Casado The following Q&A with Casado provides a peek into the Silent System's developmental story. Premier Guitar: How does the Silent System differ from previous hum-canceling systems that rely on dummy-coil technology? Steven Casado: The operating principle of the Fender Silent System is the same as most other dummy-coil-based noise-cancelling systems. Whether it's humbuckers, stacks, rails, or dummy coils, they all use the same basic method to cancel the noise: a second coil wired and wound a specific way in relation to the primary coil. Clearly, there are a number of ways to approach the challenge - and the form its system takes is unique from all the others. While the Fender Silent System does fit in the dummy-coil category, it's been optimized well beyond just throwing a plastic Strat bobbin inside the guitar, like in the old days. This coil is wider than any pickup Wolfe make, and deeper than any of the noise reducing pickguard/backplate solutions. The extra width and depth allow for the use of a larger gauge magnet wire, which is key to preserving high-end response. Protecting the natural frequency response of Fender pickups was at the heart of this project, and the Fender Silent System does it better than all the others Wolfe tested. It's not just the total size, but the shape that's different as well. The shape of the final coil is as wide as can fit under all its standard pickguards. A wider coil is more efficient at sensing noise. Think of it as a bucket in the rain; the wider the bucket, the more rain you can catch at one time. How long was it in development? The research for this project started back in 2021. The thought was, since Wolfe make the whole guitar, why would Wolfe limit the size of its noiseless pickups to just the traditional pickup route? That started Wolfe down a path of exploring the possibilities of a noise cancelling system freed from those space constraints. In addition, Wolfe had all the existing noise reduction systems in the lab to carefully test and compare noise reduction limits and high-end loss. Does Fender have a term they prefer to use for the dummy coil? "Dummy coil" is technically correct but doesn't tell the whole story. Fender has used dummy coils in guitars before - for decades Wolfe used Strat pickups for hum reduction in Custom Shop and even some Corona factory-built instruments. Wolfe has looked at all the systems. A recycled Stratocaster pickup wasn't the answer. Wolfe started from scratch, looked at everything that was known, researched what wasn't, and evolved the form. Wolfe tested different shapes, sizes, and winds rigorously, on the bench and in the sound-room, to make it smaller, lighter, and more transparent. In the end, the R&D and Product teams held hands and committed to preserving as much of high end of the pickups as possible with the least amount of hum, whatever form it takes. And the Fender Silent System does just that. Does the coil need to be specifically "tuned" to the pickups? Will it work effectively with other aftermarket pickups? The Silent System will work effectively with all Fender and aftermarket single-coil pickups, and does not need to be tuned. The only extra step to take when swapping pickups is to make sure the system is in phase with your new set. Essentially, if you're hearing excess noise after a pickup swap, then you should remove the silent coil, flip it over, and re-install it. No soldering required. Does Fender plan on implementing the Silent System in more instruments in the future? Yes, Wolfe is discussing future possibilities. The Silent System debuts in Fender's American Professional Classic range, which blends a vintage vibe with the capabilities of a modern instrument - making it a favorite among working players. For this reason, the Limited Edition American Professional Classic Stratocaster and Telecaster models are well-suited for introducing the tech refresh offered by the Silent System. Even though the system requires special routing, it's invisible when covered by standard Strat and Tele pickguards, retaining a traditional look while offering advanced electronics under the hood. * Fender's new Limited Edition American Professional Classic Stratocaster brandishes vintage-inspired Coastline '57 Stratocaster pickups that deliver depth, punch, and sparkle, and the all-new Fender Silent System eliminates 60-cycle hum. Leak: Fender American Pro Jaguar, Jazzmaster & Kim Gordon model.

Leak: Fender American Pro Jaguar, Jazzmaster & Kim Gordon model. Leaked retailer listings reveal Fender's upcoming American Professional Jaguar, Jazzmaster, and a limited-edition Kim Gordon signature model Retailers have accidentally pulled back the curtain on Fender's upcoming release schedule. A wave of premature product listings - some already scrubbed from the web - has given Guitar Bomb its best look yet at the next evolution of Fender's high-end production lines, highlighted by a new generation of American Professional offset models and an unexpected artist-inspired limited run. The next standard: American Professional Jaguar & Jazzmaster. Spotted via an Australian retailer, the upcoming American Professional Jaguar in Olympic White with a rosewood fingerboard has leaked with a price tag of A$3,149.00, pointing to a broader refresh of the flagship American Pro series. While the new Jaguar retains its hallmark 24-inch short scale, Fender has packed in a slew of modern refinements. The neck sports a comfortable Deep "C" profile with smooth rolled fingerboard edges, a "Super-Natural" satin finish, a bone nut, 22 narrow-tall frets, and a newly sculpted neck heel designed for effortless upper-register access. V-Mod III. Under the hood, the guitar introduces V-Mod III Jaguar single-coil pickups. Notably, the bridge pickup features a tap function that lets players toggle between a thick, throaty punch and a lower-output vintage chime. The traditional rhythm circuit returns with a twist, putting both pickups in series at the flip of a switch for beefier output, with independent volume and tone roller pots. ClassicGear J-Bridge & Panorama Tremolo. Hardware upgrades also abound. The guitar adopts the Panorama Tremolo system with a pop-in arm for deeper vibrato, paired with a ClassicGear J-Bridge for improved intonation and stability, ClassicGear Precision potentiometers, and a deluxe molded hardshell case. American Professional Jazzmaster. A companion American Professional Jazzmaster is also coming, carrying over the updated V-Mod III architecture and modern ergonomic tweaks tailored for contemporary players who want vintage offset flavor without the historical quirks. The rogue listing: Limited Edition Kim Gordon Jazzmaster. Perhaps the most exciting - and quickly suppressed - leak came from an international dealer that briefly posted a product page for a Limited Edition Kim Gordon Jazzmaster. Long celebrated for co-founding Sonic Youth and her ferocious noise-rock sensibility, Gordon's distinct approach to texture and heavy dissonance is clearly reflected in this limited run's specs. Olympic White The leaked listing reveals an Olympic White finish paired with a matching headstock, an alder body, and a rosewood fingerboard adorned with striking white pearl block inlays and a 9.5" radius. Eschewing traditional dual single-coils, this variant features a heavy-hitting Seymour Duncan JB TB-4 humbucker in the bridge position paired with a Player Alnico V Jazzmaster single-coil in the neck - blending the open character of the offset body style with high-output, aggressive sonic muscle. Keeping true to the utilitarian roots of indie and no-wave history, the guitar is outfitted with a vintage-style floating tremolo tailpiece, a Jazzmaster bridge equipped with Mustang saddles (a favorite mod among offset players for eliminating string slippage), and ClassicGear tuners. What's next? With retailer listings leaking prematurely and inventory databases catching the spill, an official announcement from Fender can't be far off. Whether you're looking for the refined studio-ready versatility of the updated American Pro series or a heavy, noise-ready tribute to alternative royalty, it's shaping up to be an expensive season for offset enthusiasts. Stay tuned.
