Requirements
  • The student must be in good standing in a nationally accredited nursing program during the final year of an Associate or Bachelor's degree program.
  • The candidate must be able to work weekends, holidays, and shift rotations as needed.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist registered nurses in providing direct patient care to promote patient comfort and facilitate diagnostic and treatment procedures under direct supervision.
  • Perform routine treatment procedures and help maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Assist registered nurses with patients' activities of daily living according to patient needs and departmental procedures.
  • Perform designated procedures according to departmental procedures.
  • Observe, record, and report patient concerns, symptoms, reactions, and progress to registered nurses in a timely manner.
  • Assist registered nurses with examinations and procedures according to departmental procedures.
  • Demonstrate basic and intermediate care skills, including skills performed independently or under direct registered-nurse supervision, as verified through the applicable skills checklist and by nurse mentors, preceptors, nurse managers, or nurse directors.
  • Educate self and assist with peer education while seeking opportunities to increase competence.
  • Maintain clean, sanitary, and safe patient-care areas to help prevent or control infections and promote the safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Thoroughly clean assigned patient-care areas according to departmental procedures.
  • Act as a patient sitter when assigned by the charge registered nurse.
  • Transport non-controlled medications when requested by a licensed care provider, within the permitted scope of access.
  • Make rounds, handle patient requests, and report and record changes in patient condition or behavior and unusual incidents within the scope of training.
  • Perform basic patient and family assistance tasks.
  • Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
