Zijin Mining backs Weir to deliver highly efficient, sustainable grinding solution. 7th September 2026 Weir, a mining technology company, has been awarded an order to supply two ENDURON(R) HPGRs to Zijin's Golden Ridge operation at the Akyem Mine in Ghana. Zijin is undertaking a brownfield optimisation project. The existing processing circuit includes a conventional SAG/ball mill configuration, which is experiencing operational limitations because of increased ore competency. The ENDURON(R) HPGRs will process pebbles, which will debottleneck the comminution circuit, improve grinding efficiency and boost throughput and recovery. HPGRs offer highly efficient reduction, generating a substantial amount of fines that reduce the energy required for downstream milling. The Akyem Mine is an open-pit gold mine with a throughput capacity of 8.6 million tonnes of ore per year (Mtpa). The expected mine life extends beyond 2040. The order was booked in Q3 2026. Bjorn Dierx, Director HPGR and Process Engineering at Weir said: 'The benefits ENDURON HPGRs deliver in terms of reduced energy consumption, lower carbon emissions and improved grinding efficiency compared to traditional tumbling mills are well understood, but this project highlights that they also have a vital role to play in circuit debottlenecking and pebble crushing applications. As surface deposits deplete and miners encounter a higher proportion of competent ores, they are increasingly installing HPGRs to overcome their processing challenge. 'With a mine life that extends into the 2040s, Zijin's decision to install an ENDURON HPGR future-proofs their grinding circuit, delivering energy efficiency, superior handling of hard and variable ore feed and a reduced environmental footprint over a long operational horizon.' Steve Wei, Regional Sales Manager at Weir said: 'Zijin Mining is one of the world's largest and fastest growing gold mining companies and Weir's proud of the strong, collaborative partnership The Weir Group has with them. The Weir Group has a shared vision to produce minerals more sustainably and Weir's ENDURON HPGR is increasingly the first choice for miners looking to reduce their carbon footprint. 'Weir prioritises service and support to all its customers, backing every ENDURON HPGR with its worldwide service network. The Weir Group has a service centre in Ghana that will support the Akyem Mine during integration and operation and, more broadly, The Weir Group is committed to being where its customers are so that The Weir Group can support them when they need it.' Weir's ENDURON(R) HPGR technology delivers highly efficient ore reduction, improving grinding performance, increasing throughput and supporting more sustainable mineral processing. Related products. Weir introduces WARMAN MCR[2] pump for demanding mining operations. The mill circuit pump features eight patented technologies, with advances in hydraulics, wear management, serviceability and condition monitoring. UK-based mining technology company Weir has introduced the WARMAN MCR[2] mill circuit pump, designed to help mineral processing operations handle more complex ore types and greater throughput demands. The company says the new pump addresses challenges arising from tougher operating environments in the sector. Rising pressures in mineral processing can lead to greater fluctuations in equipment wear, maintenance schedules and asset condition, making it more difficult for operators to plan their campaigns. This often results in heightened uncertainty regarding production levels, maintenance and overall ownership costs. The WARMAN MCR[2] mill circuit pump incorporates eight patented technologies, combining developments in hydraulics, wear management, serviceability and condition monitoring. Weir global engineering and technology vice-president John McNulty said: "Mill circuit duties continue to evolve as operators process increasingly challenging ore bodies and look to maximise performance from existing assets. "WARMAN MCR[2] technology applies its expertise in hydraulics, materials science and digital technology to the areas of the pump that most influence wear, performance and ease of service. "Together, these advances represent a step-change in WARMAN mill circuit pump design, giving operators greater control over how they manage the asset throughout its operating life." According to Weir, the design draws on the company's long-standing experience in slurry pumping and insights gathered from a substantial installed base of mill circuit pumps globally. The WARMAN MCR[2] pump helps extend operating campaigns, simplify maintenance and improve visibility into asset condition. The new model maintains the same physical footprint as previous WARMAN mill circuit pumps, allowing for potential increases in plant throughput without significant infrastructure modifications. Field trials have taken place across three continents, exposing the pump to high-wear mill circuit environments. Weir reports that the trials demonstrated the pump can operate reliably under strenuous conditions, enabling longer and more predictable operating periods. Last month, Weir Group secured a contract to supply a new crushing circuit for Brightstar Resources' Laverton Processing Plant, part of the Goldfields gold project in Western Australia. Give your business an edge with its leading industry insights.
