About the Job

Requirements

  • Have 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years building and operating production artificial intelligence or large language model application systems.
  • Have retrieval engineering experience with hybrid search, re-ranking, query transformation, context-window management, and production evaluation of retrieval quality.
  • Have working experience with agentic frameworks and multi-step reasoning loops, including tool use, iteration control, cost governance, and model-routing trade-offs.
  • Have production-grade software engineering fluency in Go, Python, or TypeScript, including strict typing, testing, asynchronous concurrency, and modern tooling, with the ability to ramp into another language quickly.
  • Have hands-on experience operating artificial intelligence workloads on a managed cloud AI platform such as AWS Bedrock or Azure AI Foundry, including identity and secrets management and model-access governance.
  • Have hands-on Terraform experience and be able to author and provision new infrastructure independently rather than only modify existing modules.
  • Have familiarity with production observability for artificial intelligence systems, including metrics, structured logging for model spend and latency, and evaluation harnesses to detect regressions.
  • Understand HIPAA-style data-handling requirements in a regulated software-as-a-service environment.

Responsibilities

  • Evolve the AI knowledge platform by taking the retrieval, indexing, and synthesis layer, currently semantic retrieval-augmented generation, re-ranking, and HyDE, to an organization-wide platform serving internal engineering tools and customer-facing capabilities.
  • Architect and operate agentic infrastructure on Amazon Web Services for multi-step, tool-using AI systems that plan, retrieve, and act on complex queries and operational events, with cost guardrails and observability built in.
  • Design and build graph-based, relationship-aware retrieval across organizational data sources to enable multi-hop queries and allow agents to accumulate organizational knowledge over time.
  • Partner with product engineering to define the AI platform application programming interface surface and translate infrastructure primitives into developer-ready abstractions.
  • Build reference agent implementations for operational-incident triage, customer support, and future agentic use cases, grounding each agent's reasoning in institutional knowledge.
  • Own the AI infrastructure cost model by monitoring compute, model, and storage spend, flagging anomalies, and proposing guardrails to keep workloads within defined budgets.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior healthcare experience is a plus.

About the Company

ShiftKey

Clinician staffing platform for per-diem shifts

ShiftKey runs a technology platform that connects independent licensed healthcare professionals with facilities needing per-diem shifts. Facilities post shifts and manage credentials; clinicians browse and pick shifts that fit their schedules. Revenue comes from fees to facilities per shift or via subscription, and the company has added OnShift and launched SAMI to give facilities a complete view of schedules and reduce unfilled shifts. Their goal is to ease healthcare staffing shortages by providing a scalable, flexible, and efficient workforce marketplace across hospitals, clinics, and long-term or post-acute care providers.
