About the company

TaylorMade Golf makes golf clubs and gear. Its breakthrough product was a stainless steel 12-degree driver that replaced the then-common persimmon wood, offering more forgiveness and easier ball launch, especially for harder golf balls. The driver, nicknamed the Pittsburgh Persimmon, works by using a metalhead that creates higher launch and more consistent distance compared to traditional wooden drivers, helping players hit the ball farther and straighter. The company differentiates itself by pioneering metalwood technology and validating its performance through professional tours, which helped it grow rapidly and dominate the driver market. Its goal is to lead the driver segment and shape the broader golf equipment landscape through trusted performance and innovation in club design.

What critics are saying

  • ExfilSquad claimed a July 26, 2026 breach exposing 2 million records and AI support transcripts.
  • TaylorMade's January 15, 2026 Callaway lawsuit still burns cash, management time, and channel relationships.
  • TaylorMade skips 2027 metalwoods, risking demand slippage if Spider and balls soften.

TaylorMade's debt ratings outlook raised to positive.

TaylorMade's debt ratings outlook raised to positive. September 29, 2026 Moody's Ratings changed its debt ratings outlook on 19th Holdings Golf, LLC, doing business as TaylorMade, to positive to reflect TaylorMade's improved operating earnings, leverage and cash flow during 2026. Moody's noted that TaylorMade's revenues in the first half increased 18.5 percent, with Moody's-adjusted EBITDA growing 33.1 percent. Moody's said in a statement, "The improvement is driven by healthy golf participation and equipment demand, strong revenue growth across all major product categories, successful product launches and reduced promotional activity. The stronger earnings and margins also indicate that investments in new products, marketing, personnel and distribution, including those supporting Sun Day Red, are beginning to generate returns. Moody's-adjusted debt/EBITDA declined to 4.6x for the 12 months ended June 2026 from 6.6x at year-end 2025, primarily because of earnings growth. We expect leverage to remain in the mid-4x range over the next 12-18 months, supported by continued earnings growth, successful product execution and healthy golf participation." The ratings agency added, "Healthy golf participation supported demand, with US rounds played increasing 4.2 percent year to date through June. The Qi4D driver family and continued strength in Spider putters supported equipment growth and market share gains, although fewer competitor launches also contributed. Golf ball revenue grew at a double-digit rate during the first half of 2026, supporting recurring earnings and reducing reliance on major club-launch cycles. TaylorMade holds a top-three position in the category." Moody's also affirmed TaylorMade's debt ratings, including its B2 Corporate Family Rating (CFR), B2-PD Probability of Default Rating (PDR) and B2 rating on the backed senior secured first lien term loan B. Moody's said in its analysis, "TaylorMade's B2 CFR reflects its elevated leverage and product concentration in the discretionary, seasonal and highly competitive golf equipment market. The company's heavy debt burden results in high cash interest costs, while regular shareholder distributions contribute to moderate free cash flow. Maintaining market share in a competitive industry requires significant investment in marketing and product development to support consumer demand and brand image through economic cycles. The company's aggressive financial policy under private equity ownership, including cash dividends, reduces flexibility during challenging economic conditions when consumers pull back on discretionary purchases of golf equipment. "The rating is supported by TaylorMade's strong brand name and appeal among golfers, leading global market position, particularly in golf clubs, and geographic diversification, which partially offset these credit risks. Continued growth in golf balls and Sun Day Red supports earnings and provides some diversification from the golf club launch cycle. Golf ball demand is more recurring and less dependent on new club launches. "Tariffs remain a risk because TaylorMade manufactures products in Asia and assembles golf clubs in Mexico. However, the company has largely mitigated this exposure through supply-chain flexibility, sourcing and routing changes, supplier cost-sharing arrangements and selective pricing. The premium market position and strong customer engagement also support its ability to manage higher costs. Gross margin excluding tariff refunds increased to 50.9 percent during the first half of 2026, about 2.5 percentage points higher than in the same period a year earlier, demonstrating improved underlying profitability despite tariff pressures. "Sgbonline expect Moody's adjusted free cash flow of $50 million-$70 million annually in 2026 and 2027. Stronger earnings will support free cash flow, although cash interest, dividends, working capital requirements and capital spending will remain constraints. Capital spending will increase as TaylorMade invests in a new distribution center to support Sun Day Red and its North American operations, with most of the related spending occurring in 2027. Sgbonline also expect EBITDA less capital spending/interest expense to improve to the mid-2x range in 2026 and 2027. The recent earnings improvement will need to be sustained through the next product cycle. First-half 2026 results benefited from a strong product launch cycle, favorable product mix and competitor launch timing. TaylorMade will not introduce a new metalwood family in 2027, which will test its ability to sustain demand, pricing and market share. The full P-Series iron launch and continued growth in golf balls, putters and Sun Day Red should partly offset lower metalwood sales. "TaylorMade has good liquidity, with $150.7 million of balance sheet cash as of June 30, 2026, and full availability under its $300 million asset-based lending facility (ABL). We expect cash and annual free cash flow of about $50 million-$70 million over the next 12-18 months to cover the company's cash needs, including $10.5 million of annual term loan amortization. We expect the company will remain reliant on a currently undrawn $300 million ABL to fund the high seasonal working capital usage ahead of the peak golf season. However, we expect ample cushion on the revolver's springing 1.0x minimum fixed charge coverage ratio that we do not anticipate will be tested." Image courtesy TaylorMade

What Good Good's latest hire says about its apparel ambitions.

What Good Good's latest hire says about its apparel ambitions. ByMike Dojc, Contributor. Mike Dojc is a South Carolina-based journalist who covers golf. Jul 24, 2026, 07:00am EDT 0:00 / 3:31 Summary. Good Good, a golf brand born on YouTube, has evolved into a comprehensive business spanning media, apparel, and events, backed by nearly 4 million social followers and a recent $45 million investment. The company is now aggressively expanding its product development, notably by hiring former TaylorMade and Sun Day Red product designer Alex Criscuolo. This strategic move underscores Good Good's ambition to become a premier golf apparel brand, moving beyond creator merchandise. Criscuolo emphasizes leveraging the brand's unique parasocial relationships, where authentic creator connections drive consumer affinity, a departure from traditional pro endorsements. His influence on collections will be evident by 2027, aiming to convert audience engagement into significant enterprise value. Good Good has grown well beyond its roots as a YouTube first golf brand into a vertically integrated business spanning media, apparel, accessories and live events. Yet the engine powering that expansion remains one of golf's largest owned digital audiences, with nearly 4 million social media followers. Its reach extends even further through the sizable individual audiences of personalities like Garrett Clark and Matt Scharff. Even former Good Good members continue to strengthen the brand's orbit. The individual success of alumni such as Grant Horvat and Brad Dalke reinforces the original collective in much the same way the success of Saturday Night Live alumni continues to elevate the institution that launched them. That expanding media ecosystem has become the flywheel behind a broader business that last year attracted a $45 million growth investment led by Creator Sports Capital, with participation from Peyton Manning's Omaha Productions and Manhattan West Private Equity. If audience growth fueled Good Good's first chapter, product development appears to be central to its next. The company's latest move is hiring former TaylorMade and Sun Day Red product designer Alex Criscuolo, underscoring its ambitions to level up its apparel business. "His background at the highest levels of golf design shows we're serious about becoming a top brand in the sport, while still keeping the fun, creative spirit that defines Good Good," company CEO Matt Kendrick said. The product pipeline continues to expand as well. Later this year, Good Good plans another collaboration with High Noon, along with an exclusive hoodie program for Golf Galaxy. For Criscuolo, who made his in-office debut Monday, the attraction was helping shape the next phase of a company he believes has ambitions well beyond creator merchandise. MORE FOR YOU "We are being strategic about who we are bringing in," Criscuolo said. "We want to make a serious play at becoming one of the best apparel brands in the golf industry - not just in YouTube golf, but in all of golf." Good Good's product strategy diverges from the traditional golf apparel playbook, where brands purchase credibility by paying tour professionals to wear their apparel during competition. Instead, it builds affinity through what psychologists call parasocial relationships, where viewers develop a genuine connection with creators they've spent countless hours watching. Forbes Daily: Join over 1 million Forbes Daily subscribers and get its best stories, exclusive reporting and essential analysis of the day's news in your inbox every weekday. "It is different than the other companies and seeing guys play on TV on the PGA Tour," Criscuolo said. "What the Good Good community has allowed is bringing people together and staying true to their authentic selves. All the content creators are themselves - they're funny, they're witty - and I think our viewership really appreciates that and it connects them to our product." Given long development cycles in apparel, Criscuolo's influence on Good Good's collections won't be fully felt until 2027. Whether those products vault Good Good into golf's top tier of consumer brands may determine whether the company can accomplish one of the creator economy's most difficult feats - transforming audience attention into lasting enterprise value. Hasbro showed with Transformers that storytelling could elevate a product into an enduring intellectual property franchise. Good Good is wagering that a creator-first version of that playbook, one built on YouTube rather than Saturday morning television, can produce that same commercial flywheel.
