About the job
- Hold a Master's in Nursing for Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- Hold a New Jersey license as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse, or as a Physician Assistant.
- Nurse practitioners must be acute care certified.
- Physician Assistants must hold NCCPA certification.
- Acute care certified Advanced Practice Nurses or Physician Assistants are required for the role.
- Experience in critical care and/or hospital medicine is preferred for the position.
- New graduates may be considered if they are highly motivated to learn, seek independent opportunities, and become autonomous in the role.
- Work full time on day shifts with some night rotation.
- Work in collaboration with Cooper intensivists to manage intensive care patients.
- Practice autonomously and/or in consultation with collaborating or supervising physicians and other health care professionals to assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients' health problems and needs.
- Perform patient histories and physical examinations to determine working differential diagnoses and develop individualized plans of care.
- Order, perform, supervise, and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests.
- Prescribe pharmacologic agents and non-pharmacologic therapies in accordance with applicable prescribing guidelines and state and federal law.
- Provide therapeutic measures and deliver teaching, education, and counseling to individuals, families, and groups.
- Formulate diagnoses for uncommon or unstable conditions in consultation with collaborating or supervising physicians, and refer patients to specialists or participate in dual management and treatment.
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses while emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention.
- Serve as a health care researcher, professional educator, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate.
- Document medications prescribed and refills authorized in the patient's chart.
- Experience in critical care and/or hospital medicine.
- Experience with point-of-care ultrasound.
- Experience performing procedures such as intubation, central lines, and arterial lines.
