Requirements
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Applicants must have two or more years of experience working with children, including camps, child care, tutoring, or nannying.
  • Applicants must be able to plan and implement group activities.
  • Applicants must have completed 12 credits of 100-level or above college coursework and possess a GED or high school diploma.
  • Applicants must complete the minimum required STARS training.
  • Applicants must hold CPR and first aid certification.
  • Applicants must complete pre-employment tuberculosis testing and have the required mumps, measles, and rubella immunization.
  • Applicants must hold a food worker card.
  • Applicants must have a cleared Portable Background Check in the statewide MERIT registry.
  • Employees must adhere to abuse-prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and comply with mandated-reporting requirements.
  • Employees must be able to communicate verbally, hear, stand, walk, use their hands, reach, and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the YMCA curriculum.
  • Supervise groups of children to ensure their health and safety and provide a positive experience.
  • Provide guidance to staff and volunteers overseeing children’s activities when needed.
  • Communicate day-to-day, confidential, and evaluative information professionally with parents and guardians.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures concerning medical and disciplinary situations, child-abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Help maintain a developmentally appropriate site, including its appearance, décor, and cleanliness.
  • Prepare and serve snacks when needed and clean the snack area.
  • Assist parents with child check-in and check-out.
  • Assume responsibility for program operations when designated and qualified Department of Children, Youth, and Families staff are not on the premises.
  • Provide on-site support for the school-based Play Everyday program.
  • Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Ensure staff are properly screened, trained, supervised, and held accountable to the organization’s abuse-risk-management standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Applicants aged 21 or older are preferred.
  • One to two years of leadership or supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations is preferred.
  • The ability to speak a language in addition to English is preferred.
