About the company

GridUnity provides a cloud-based software platform that speeds up grid interconnection by automating and coordinating the often slow, manual steps utilities, system operators, transmission owners, and developers must complete to bring new energy projects online. The platform combines customer engagement, engineering automation, and infrastructure management in one unified system of record, helping clients reduce bottlenecks, increase transparency, and make data-driven decisions. Unlike other solutions, GridUnity is the only offering that natively integrates these three areas in a single SaaS, which many major utilities and system operators already rely on to serve more than half the U.S. population. The goal is to streamline workflows, improve planning and execution, and accelerate the deployment of new energy resources to meet rising demand.

GridUnity named Clean Energy Company of the Year by the Alliance for Climate Transition.

GridUnity named Clean Energy Company of the Year by the Alliance for Climate Transition. Oct 13, 2026, 06:03 ET Grid interconnection and planning software developer recognized for national impact and momentum BOSTON, Oct. 13, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - GridUnity(R) was named Clean Energy Company of the Year at the Energy Leadership Gala, hosted by the Alliance for Climate Transition (ACT) at the Boston Museum of Science. The award is given annually to a company that "has substantially impacted the region's clean energy industry and stands out from the crowd, having established itself as both an industry leader and market-maker." It was a full-circle moment. GridUnity began in 2007 as a capstone project in ACT's Clean Energy Fellowship program, which recruited entrepreneurs from other sectors and prepared them to launch clean energy companies. CEO Brian Fitzsimons was a member of the first cohort. Since then, GridUnity has grown to serve utilities and system operators covering more than 60% of U.S. electricity users. "Our mission is simple: make it faster and easier to connect new generation and large loads to the grid," said Chief Growth Officer Keith Laska, accepting the award. "The opportunity is enormous, not just for our industry, but for economic growth, affordability, and the future of our energy system." The GridUnity platform manages generation and load interconnection end-to-end, across both transmission and distribution. Its unique solution architecture and grid analytics learning engine AI (GALE AI), enables all stakeholders to draw upon the platform's AI while working from the same physics-based data model. This fundamentally changes how parties are informed, collaborate and make decisions throughout the planning and interconnection lifecycle. By bringing every stakeholder onto one platform, GridUnity speeds the process while keeping a secure, auditable record of each communication, contract, and decision. The platform is used by the majority of U.S. ISOs/RTOs and is being deployed to more than 70 transmission owners and utilities including PG&E, Southern California Edison, Hawaiian Electric, Southern Company, Xcel Energy, PPL, and Entergy. As the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and state utility commissions roll out requirements for faster time-to-power and responsible cost allocation, demand for proven compliance tools is growing. To meet it, GridUnity is investing an additional $100 million to accelerate development of the platform, supported by a $45 million matching grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. "This recognition is an important milestone, and it is especially meaningful coming from ACT, which has supported GridUnity at every stage of our growth," said Fitzsimons. "Credit goes to our team, whose work has taken us from an idea to a fast-growing company, and to the customers and partners who share our mission. Great things are ahead." About GridUnity GridUnity(R), a Founding Board Member of the AI Energy Management Alliance (AEMA), accelerates grid interconnection by streamlining and automating the complex, manual processes that delay energy deployment. We help utilities, transmission owners, system operators, and developers collaborate more effectively and engage all participants in generation and load interconnection at the bulk-power and distribution levels. GridUnity's curated data approach and intelligently applied AI turns today's interconnection process into tomorrow's intelligent-connection process. Trusted by North America's leading utilities and system operators, GridUnity's customers serve over 60% of the U.S. population. GridUnity launches Intelligence Lab to accelerate governed AI for grid planning

GridUnity has launched the GridUnity Intelligence Lab, an innovation facility designed to accelerate AI adoption for electrical grid management. The lab enables utilities and transmission operators to safely experiment with AI agents using real utility data whilst maintaining human oversight. The initiative centres on GALE AI, GridUnity's grid-native artificial intelligence system built on a master data model of the physical grid. GALE is pre-trained on grid standards and regulatory guidelines, providing trusted answers to utility teams managing load growth and interconnection complexity. The lab addresses the industry's need for rapid innovation as interconnection volumes surge and regulatory scrutiny intensifies. Unlike traditional research structures, it emphasises quick validation and deployment of practical solutions. GridUnity's customers, serving over half the US population, are joining as founding members.
