About the Job

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to use AI-native workflows across the full engineering lifecycle while independently evaluating and validating their output.
  • Extensive experience designing, building, and operating production data platforms or other large-scale distributed systems.
  • Strong programming ability in one or more of Java, Python, Go, or Rust; Java or Python experience is especially relevant.
  • Deep experience with cloud data infrastructure, preferably GCP and BigQuery.
  • Understanding of distributed computing and production experience with frameworks such as Apache Beam, Apache Spark, or Ray.
  • Experience building real-time data systems with technologies such as Apache Flink, Apache Kafka, or comparable streaming frameworks.
  • Experience with orchestration, container, and infrastructure automation technologies such as Kubernetes, Airflow, and Terraform.
  • Understanding of modern storage and lakehouse architectures, including technologies such as Apache Iceberg and object storage systems such as Google Cloud Storage.
  • Experience building experimentation, analytics, telemetry, or data products used by multiple engineering and product teams.
  • Understanding of trustworthy experimentation, including assignment, exposure tracking, metric definition, data quality, reproducibility, and statistical interpretation.
  • Experience defining technical direction and driving complex, cross-team initiatives while remaining directly involved in implementation.
  • Demonstrated history of leading delivery of complex projects involving multiple engineers and cross-functional partners, from strategy and planning through launch and operational ownership.
  • Experience managing and developing engineering teams, including hiring, performance feedback, career growth, and fostering an effective, inclusive team culture.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Ability to design, implement, test, and reason about production-quality software; coding will be tested during recruitment.
  • Ability to understand, explain, validate, and take responsibility for work produced using AI tools.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate scalable data infrastructure and experimentation systems for general product experimentation and game-specific use cases.
  • Lead the technical design of capabilities such as experiment assignment, player segmentation, exposure logging, telemetry processing, metric computation, guardrails, and reproducible analysis.
  • Build reliable batch and streaming data pipelines using technologies such as Apache Beam, Apache Spark, Ray, Apache Flink, and Apache Kafka.
  • Design data platforms on GCP using technologies such as BigQuery, Apache Iceberg, Google Cloud Storage, Kubernetes, Airflow, and Terraform.
  • Remain hands-on throughout the development lifecycle, contributing production code and solving complex problems in distributed computing, streaming, orchestration, and storage.
  • Develop methodologies and guardrails for AI-assisted and agentic engineering, including context management, automated validation, evaluations, human review, and responsible adoption.
  • Use AI-native workflows across architecture exploration, implementation, testing, code review, documentation, debugging, incident response, and platform operations.
  • Maintain ownership of the correctness, security, performance, and maintainability of work produced with AI assistance.
  • Evaluate new technologies and apply them where they materially improve engineering velocity, platform reliability, or experimentation quality.
  • Lead the technical direction and delivery of the Data Infrastructure organization, aligning engineers and cross-functional partners around shared priorities, architectural decisions, trade-offs, and multi-quarter execution plans.
  • Coach and develop engineers through mentorship, actionable feedback, and technical guidance while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture and remaining hands-on in architecture and critical implementation.

Desired Qualifications

  • Japanese proficiency is a bonus.
  • Experience with GCP and BigQuery is preferred.
