Fidelity's Timmer says AI bubble risk lies in debt, as CoreWeave bond yields top 15%

Fidelity's director of global macro, Jurrien Timmer, says any AI bubble may sit in debt markets rather than stocks. Yields on bonds from AI cloud provider CoreWeave topped 15% last week, even as equity valuations fall. Timmer compared CoreWeave's yield with a Bloomberg index of junk-rated telecom bonds from the 1998 to 2000 boom. In that era, the warning came from debt, not dot-com stocks. Highly rated AI borrowers still look stable, he said. CoreWeave's 2031 notes yielded 15.78% last Thursday. Its debt rose from $21 billion at the end of 2025 to $35 billion by June 30, and net interest expense of $640 million took about a quarter of second-quarter revenue. Chief executive officer Mike Intrator said its backlog, near $104 billion, more than covers its debt.

Veir raises $24.9M Series A+ for high-temperature superconductor power transmission

US startup Veir has raised $24.9 million in a Series A+ round. VXI Capital, Galvanize Climate Solutions, Fidelity Investments, Congruent Ventures, The Engine, and Breakthrough Energy Ventures invested. Veir develops a way to transmit electricity using high-temperature superconductors (HTS). Its platform uses evaporative cryogenic cooling. The technology lets utilities carry more power at lower voltage within a smaller right-of-way. This helps connect the lowest-cost renewable resources to the places that need them.

Scottish Widows is awarded Best Overall Winner, offering an app experience that allows members to save, invest and plan for their retirement. The strongest providers help members to understand their pensions and also make the next step simpler, yet none combine best-in-class capability and execution across the full experience. Product investment has focused largely on helping people to understand their pension and more work is required to support members with managing contributions. "Ahead of the release of the pensions dashboard, connected journeys will be key in helping people to find & understand their savings." - Oliver Lane, Founder & CEO, BehindLogin Ten critical features. With a focus on 10 features across 10 leading providers, the report uncovers what pension providers are really delivering, who leads and where the biggest opportunities lie. Most competitor insight stops at what providers say they offer. This report goes further, observing real members using their pension apps to understand what actually happens behind-the-login. "BehindLogin's work in systematically assessing major pension providers across a range of critical member engagement criteria is unique in the UK pensions sector. For anyone interested in how this market is serving its members, from employers to policymakers, consultants to market competitors, this annual report should be required reading." - Tom McPhail, Pensions Expert Awards and leaderboard highlights. * Best Over-all: Scottish Widows leads across four features, setting the pace across contributions, investments, communications and retirement planning. * Runner-Up: L&G excels with its pension overview and delivers consistently strong investment, retirement planning and support experiences across the app. * Most Engaging: Standard Life is celebrated for making pensions engaging through personalisation, interactive tools, approachable content and goal-based experiences. * Best Design: Cushon stands out for its distinctive native design, with visual comparisons and intuitive controls that make complex tasks feel approachable. * Most Innovative: Mercer is recognised for pushing beyond core pension servicing through connected finances, locating lost pension pots and interactive planning. * A notable mention also to Fidelity, a solid all rounder that achieved 5th place in the leaderboard, leading on support and contact options. Expert voices. "It's great to see member experience rising up everyone's agenda. The next step is more joined-up journeys that help members take positive action." - Chloe Taylor, Quietroom "The single best thing a member can do for their retirement is save more, yet it remains one of the hardest things to do in a pension app." - Jonathan Hawkins, Hawkins Strategic Advisory On a mission to inspire the next generation of digital experiences.
