Rheem leadership moves designed to advance tech strategy.

Rheem leadership moves designed to advance tech strategy. October 9, 2026 ATLANTA - Rheem Manufacturing Co. has announced two executive leadership moves to accelerate its technology strategy. These changes will strengthen engineering capabilities and advance the use of AI and digital technologies across Rheem's unified Air and Water business. Eric Varton has been hired as Rheem's senior vice president of research and development and chief technology officer to lead the company's global research and development, controls engineering, and Program Management Office functions. Alan Machuga will transition from his current role as executive vice president of technology and chief technology officer to executive vice president of digital strategy & AI transformation. He will lead Rheem's enterprise digital strategy and the continued development and adoption of AI capabilities across the business. These leadership changes reflect Rheem's commitment to technology and AI as part of its long-term strategy, a press release from the company said. They also create dedicated executive leadership for critical priorities: strengthening global engineering and product innovation while accelerating the digital and AI capabilities that are increasingly shaping how Rheem operates and creates value for its customers, the press release said. "As Rheem continues to evolve, technology and digital capabilities are becoming even more integral to our innovation and growth," said Chris Peel, president and CEO of Rheem. "Eric and Alan will lead two distinct but highly connected areas of our transformation - Eric driving engineering collaboration and innovation, and Alan advancing AI and digital capabilities to unlock new opportunities for our customers and business." Varton is an accomplished technology and engineering leader with more than 30 years of experience driving product development, innovation, and operational excellence across multiple industries. Most recently, he led the engineering strategy and advanced product development activities at Yazaki North America, a supplier of automotive power and data solutions. Earlier in his career, Varton worked in product development engineering roles at Ford Motor Co. and later owned and operated a successful HVAC business. In his new role, Varton will work to enhance collaboration across global engineering teams, drive consistency in engineering and product development processes, and align research, development, and controls capabilities, the press release said. Machuga's new role builds on the digital transformation he has led at Rheem, establishing a stronger technology foundation across customer platforms, data, cloud, cybersecurity, and operations, the press release said. Rheem launches air-to-water heat pumps for multifamily houses.

Rheem launches air-to-water heat pumps for multifamily houses. Rheem's Torin commercial air-to-water heat pumps achieve a COP of up to 4.5. The units can also deliver outlet-water temperatures of up to 65.6 C. 15 Sep 2026 US-based heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) and water heating products provider Rheem has introduced its Torin commercial heat pump for domestic hot water and hydronic space-heating applications. The new products are available in 20 kW and 35 kW versions and use R-454B refrigerant. The two models have nominal heating capacities of 68,000 BTU/h (20 kW) and 120,000 BTU/h (35 kW). Both units operate on a 480 V, three-phase, 60 Hz electrical supply and are intended for indoor or outdoor installation. The heat pumps rely on inverter-driven compressors. Rheem lists a coefficient of performance (COP) of 4.5 under US Department of Energy (DOE) test conditions, based on an ambient temperature of 26.7 C, an inlet-water temperature of 21.1 C and an outlet-water temperature of 48.9 C. The manufacturer said the units can operate at outdoor temperatures as low as -25 C and deliver water at temperatures of up to 65.6 C. They support single-pass and multipass hydraulic configurations. The 20 kW model measures approximately 1,016 mm x 1,016 mm x 1,067 mm and weighs 163 kg. It has a rated power input of 4.9 kW and supports water flow rates of between 18.9 liters/min and 56.8 liters/min. The 35 kW version measures 1,016 mm x 1,016 mm x 1,473 mm and weighs about 219 kg. Its rated input is 9.8 kW, with supported flow rates ranging from 18.9 liters/min to 75.7 liters/min. Both models use a double-wall, 316L stainless-steel water heat exchanger and 25.4 mm copper water connections. Their stated sound level is 75 dB(A) at a distance of 3.05 meters. Up to 16 units can be installed in a cascade arrangement to provide additional capacity or redundancy. The systems include Rheem's Sky-35 touchscreen controller and support integration with building-management systems through BACnet and Modbus interfaces. The heat pumps are Energy Star certified and carry NSF/ANSI 5, 61 and 372 certifications. With the new product line, Rheem is targeting hotels, multifamily buildings, educational campuses, offices and government facilities. This content is protected by copyright and may not be reused.
