  • An Alaska Type M certification in the area of career and technical education is required.
  • An Alaska teaching certificate with an endorsement in a career and technical education field is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with culturally safe and responsive practices are preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in trauma-engaged practices are preferred.
  • Experience with positive school climate and restorative practices is preferred.
  • Experience with Iñupiaq language, history, and culture is preferred.
  • Ability to provide instruction involving power tools, machines, hand tools, hazardous materials, and protective gear.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within and outside the North Slope Borough School District by small and large commuter planes.
Responsibilities
  • Consult with the Qatqiññiaġvik Career and Technical Education Director and Manager in program development.
  • Create an authentic, consistent, strength-based, culturally safe, and responsive instructional environment and program plan in collaboration with staff, students, families, and the community.
  • Provide individualized instruction based on students’ learning styles, rates of learning, maturation, achievement, frequent assessment, and career pathways.
  • Encourage and support a Grow Your Own career path for middle school and high school students.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with North Slope entities to develop a Qatqiññiaġvik and career and technical education program that meets student goals and the needs of the eight North Slope communities.
  • Promote and support school district goals defined in the Board of Education Strategic Plan.
  • Participate in educational committees and organizations for the benefit of the district, the Qatqiññiaġvik program, professional growth, and the teaching profession.
  • Abide by the professional code of ethics and teaching standards adopted by the Professional Teaching Practice Commission of the State.
  • Provide safety instruction, particularly regarding power tools, machines, hand tools, hazardous materials, and protective gear.
  • Stay current with practices and advancements in career and technical education.
  • Adhere to all district policies and regulations.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities assigned by the Director or Manager.
