  • Experience deploying autonomy and machine learning models on embedded compute such as NVIDIA Jetson-class hardware or similar.
  • Track record of hiring and developing strong engineers.
  • Ability to work on-site in Palo Alto and spend time in the field on job sites and test areas.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident due to export control requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Own the autonomy architecture from sensors to actuation, including perception, localization, world modeling, planning, control, and the interfaces between them.
  • Set the roadmap for transitioning from hand-engineered components to learned components, including imitation learning, reinforcement learning, and VLA-style policies, and determine where classical methods should remain.
  • Drive a composable, skill-based approach to material manipulation, including loading, pushing, scooping, dumping, and digging, that transfers across machine types.
  • Build the simulation and data engine, including operator data capture, sim-to-real validation, closed-loop evaluation, and regression testing tied to field metrics.
  • Scale autonomy to fleets of multiple machines working alongside remote operators, including task allocation and coordination on shared sites.
  • Shorten the time required to bring autonomy up on a new vehicle model in close collaboration with hardware and vehicle integration teams.
  • Define safety cases and release gates for autonomy software in partnership with safety and compliance teams.
  • Work with hardware and software teams to make compute, sensor, and onboard performance trade-offs for the Teleo product and fleet.
  • Manage the autonomy team directly, including technical leads for each area.
  • Hire and retain strong engineers and grow the team as deployments scale.
  • Run planning, prioritization, and execution for the autonomy organization; set clear goals and maintain high standards for code and review quality.
  • Coach engineers on technical depth and career growth, and develop leads where the team needs them.
  • Represent autonomy to executive leadership, customers, and partners, and translate field needs into engineering priorities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with autonomy for off-road, construction, mining, agriculture, or defense ground vehicles.
  • Experience with hydraulic machines or articulated manipulators, including system identification and control of hydraulic actuators.
  • Experience with behavior cloning from human operator data and sim-to-real transfer for contact-rich tasks.
  • Experience with multi-robot coordination or fleet management systems.
  • Experience with supervised autonomy or teleoperation systems and designing for human intervention.
  • Experience with functional safety standards such as ISO 13849, IEC 61508, ISO 25119, or similar, and safety cases for autonomous systems.
  • Experience taking an autonomy product from prototype to multi-site commercial deployment.
  • Experience leading autonomy work on defense programs.
  • Experience scaling a team through a period of fast growth.

About the company

Teleo provides retrofit kits that turn heavy construction and mining equipment into semi-autonomous, remotely controlled machines. Its core Teleo Supervised Autonomy includes a retrofit package, software, sensors, cameras, and a remote command center that lets one operator manage multiple machines from afar while the machines handle repetitive tasks. The system is OEM-agnostic and installs on existing loaders, dozers, trucks, and excavators, with services and data analytics to improve fleet visibility. Teleo aims to address labor shortages, enhance safety, and raise productivity by enabling supervised autonomy and remote operation across construction, mining, agriculture, and related sectors.

What believers are saying

  • Havoc acquired Teleo on March 11, 2026, adding distribution and capital support.
  • Hitachi partnered with Teleo for CONEXPO 2026, including a 500-mile remote loader demo.
  • Teleo's 2024 Series A extensions raised $16.2 million, totaling $29.8 million.

What critics are saying

  • Teleo lost independence in Havoc's March 2026 acquisition, risking strategic reprioritization.
  • Hitachi's LANDCROS strategy keeps autonomy inside the OEM stack, squeezing retrofit vendors by 2027.
  • If supervised autonomy never escapes pilots, Teleo becomes a niche teleoperation feature inside Havoc.

What makes Teleo unique

  • Teleo retrofits mixed-brand fleets, avoiding expensive OEM replacement and procurement cycles.
  • Its supervised autonomy lets one operator switch machines instantly across dispersed job sites.
  • Hitachi Construction Machinery showcased Teleo at CONEXPO 2026, validating dealer-channel credibility.

Teleo to demonstrate a supervised autonomy workforce shortage solution at CONEXPO 2026, in partnership with Hitachi Construction Machinery

Teleo to demonstrate a supervised autonomy workforce shortage solution at CONEXPO 2026, in partnership with Hitachi Construction Machinery. Feb 23, 2026 At CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026, supervised autonomy startup Teleo will join Hitachi Construction Machinery's booth (F19012) to provide the heavy equipment world with a workforce shortage solution. In 2024, Hitachi Construction Machinery held the Hitachi Construction Machinery Challenge where 127 startups from all corners of the world submitted proposals to exhibit their innovative technology in front of a panel of judges. Teleo was the winning startup under the "Revolutionize Equipment: Information, Interface & Autonomy" theme. The supervised autonomy solution they presented allows operators to operate multiple machines simultaneously from an office-like environment. This innovation is brand-agnostic and presents a viable solution to work shortages, which continues to be a need in the industry. At CONEXPO 2026, Teleo's technology will be showcased at Hitachi Construction Machinery's booth, demonstrating supervised autonomy as a single operator remotely controls both a Hitachi ZW310 wheel loader and an ADT located 500 miles away. Teleo provides a turnkey pathway to autonomy, allowing operators to retrofit virtually any existing fleet (across models, brands, and vintages) and unlock autonomous operation without replacing equipment. By blending advanced autonomy with real-time teleoperation, supervised autonomy keeps operators in command at every moment, delivering unmatched safety, flexibility, and performance even in the most challenging job site conditions. With this partnership, both companies are committed to helping customers augment the impact of their best operators. Operators can instantly switch from one machine to another, enabling them to control an entire retrofitted fleet from one place. For Hitachi Construction Machinery America's Stories from Across the Land series, Teleo gave customers a first-hand experience with the supervised autonomy technology. "I was blown away how easy it is to learn especially for me personally not being an operator," said Pedro Bobadilla, Fleet Manager from Park West, a commercial landscape construction company. "It's really hard to find qualified operators for all the different types of machines we have. To have someone operate two or three or even more machines... could reduce our costs significantly." This partnership is a part of Hitachi Construction Machinery's upcoming brand change to LANDCROS. The 'O' in the acronym represents 'Open', their commitment to openly collaborating with startups and companies who are experts in emerging technology. This will enable the company to add technology to their equipment that provide 'Solutions' to real world needs, which is what the 'S' in their upcoming brand represents. Attendees of CONEXPO 2026 can visit booth F19012 to operate a Hitachi wheel loader in with supervised autonomy and to learn more about LANDCROS.
