Don Betthauser to receive Blugold Spirit Award at UW-Eau Claire Homecoming.

Don Betthauser to receive Blugold Spirit Award at UW-Eau Claire Homecoming. Don Betthauser will receive this year's Blugold Spirit Award during UW-Eau Claire's Homecoming celebrations in October. A former football champion and long-time supporter of university athletics, Betthauser is recognized for his dedication both on campus and in his professional life. 8h ago Wednesday, Sept 23 By T. S. Cason Don Betthauser, a 1966 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, will be honored with the Blugold Spirit Award on Oct. 2 as part of the university's Homecoming activities. The award is presented annually by the Alumni Association to a supporter who demonstrates a strong commitment to the campus and embodies excellence in daily life. Betthauser was a member of UW-Eau Claire's only back-to-back football championship teams, playing under head coach James Rice during the undefeated 1963 season and again in 1964 when the team won another title. "I chose Eau Claire because it was a good school, my brother had gone here and it was close to my hometown," Betthauser said. "It all worked out well." In addition to receiving the award, Betthauser and his wife Jan will serve as grand marshals for the Homecoming parade on Oct. 3. Despite being recognized for his longstanding support, Betthauser said he prefers not to be in the spotlight: "This is all very nice, but I'm not sure I deserve it. To be honest, it makes me a little nervous," he said. Jane Larson, alumni relations officer at UW-Eau Claire, said selecting Betthauser for this year's award was an easy decision: "When it came time to select the Spirit Award, Uncle Don was at the top of my mind," Larson said. "Don has done so much for UW-Eau Claire over the years." Mark Faanes, retired senior partner at Wipfli LLP where Betthauser spent much of his career as an accountant working with governmental clients, called him 'Mr. Blugold.' Faanes said, "Many area municipalities benefitted from Don's expertise and tireless commitment to serve his clients." Betthauser has maintained steady attendance at Blugold athletic events for over five decades and continues supporting football through donations based on wins each season. He started donating $20 per win after graduation and now donates $65 per win. The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire supports prominent programs such as its marching band; contributes to state culture and economy through collaborations; features partnerships with Mayo Clinic Health System; emphasizes critical-thinking skills; offers career-focused opportunities; boasts national recognition for quality and affordability; and maintains a scenic campus shared with health science partners - all according to its official website.

Wipfli to host Elevate 2026 workshop at Graton Resort. Wednesday, August 19, 2026 11:05 AM Email, LinkedIn, and more Wipfli will host "Elevate 2026: Streamlining the Path from Audit to Financials," a two-day in-person workshop designed for tribal gaming finance, audit and accounting leaders and team members August 26-27 at Graton Resort and Casino in Rohnert Park, California. Elevate 2026 is a hands-on, end-to-end workshop focused on how tribal gaming organizations can improve accuracy, efficiency and control across the full revenue life cycle - from audit to financial reporting. The workshop is designed for organizations navigating increasing operational complexity, evolving technology and raising expectations around financial transparency and control. "Revenue processes in tribal gaming don't operate in silos, but are often managed that way," Wipfli Partner Grant Eve said in a statement. "Elevate 2026 is designed to bring audit, operations and finance together so teams can clearly see how decisions upstream affect reporting and controls downstream. That end-to-end understanding is critical as organizations move toward more automated environments and stronger risk management." Participants will gain practical insights into how processes, people and technology intersect, including: * Gaming and non-gaming audits and how audit decisions influence downstream operations. * Cage operations and revenue flows, with an emphasis on strengthening controls and reducing risk. * Financial reporting alignment to help ensure operational activity translates into accurate, timely financials. * Transitioning from manual to automated environments without disrupting operations. * Change management strategies that support adoption across finance and operations teams. * The role of revenue audit software, DataBlend, and artificial intelligence in improving transparency, strengthening controls and reducing risk. This integrated approach is designed to help tribal gaming organizations break down silos, improve consistency across teams and operate with greater confidence across the full revenue life cycle. Elevate 2026 is ideal for tribal gaming professionals looking to improve internal controls, gain clarity on how audit and operations connect to financial reporting and better prepare their organizations for continued change. Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits will be available. Registration and additional event details here:
