Reddit operates as a global online platform of communities where users post, vote, and discuss content around shared interests. People create and participate in topic-based “subreddits,” and the platform’s upvote/downvote system determines what content rises to visibility. Content flows from user-generated posts, comments, and conversations, while the business model relies on advertising revenue, premium memberships, and virtual goods (Reddit Coins). The platform differentiates itself through its large, diverse communities and explicit voting mechanism that rewards engaging, relevant discussions and fosters authentic interactions. Reddit’s goal is to help people connect through open discussions across a wide range of topics, while monetizing the activity through ads, memberships, and digital goods.

Reddit vs. Rigetti: Which high-growth stock is better, the social media giant with $2.2B revenue or the quantum computing startup?

Reddit reported $2.2 billion revenue in 2025, up 69.4% year-over-year, whilst achieving net income of $529.7 million with a 24.1% profit margin. The social media platform generates revenue through digital advertising and licensing data to companies like Alphabet for AI training. Its top ten advertisers accounted for approximately 21% of revenue in 2025. Rigetti Computing develops superconducting quantum processors delivered through cloud services, primarily serving government and research clients. Government contracts represented approximately 90% of total revenue in 2025. The company is developing a 108-qubit system for international partners. Reddit maintains zero debt and an 11.6x current ratio, with $684.2 million free cash flow in 2025. However, stock-based compensation represented 49.7% of operating cash flow. Both companies face customer concentration risks in their respective sectors.

Reddit joins S&P 500 after 365% surge, faces AI headwinds despite strong Q2 results

Reddit has joined the S&P 500, replacing AvalonBay Communities after its merger with Equity Residential. The social media company's shares have surged 365% since its IPO two years ago. Reddit reported strong second-quarter results, with revenue up 61% year-over-year and adjusted EBITDA margin expanding to 42.6%. The company repurchased $235 million in shares, and earnings per share climbed 178%. However, shares declined following the earnings report due to concerns about AI disruption. Daily active users in the US fell sequentially, potentially impacted by Google's AI Overviews reducing platform traffic. Reddit positions itself as an alternative to AI chatbots, offering human community-based responses. Management aims to grow from 23 million to 100 million logged-in US users and reach 1 billion globally.

Reddit turns text posts into AI videos: how the test works.

Reddit turns text posts into AI videos: how the test works. Reddit is testing AI-generated audio and video versions of selected text posts while keeping the original conversations intact. Image generated by ChatGPT/OpenAI Reddit is testing AI-narrated versions of selected text posts, with Read/Play controls that keep the original thread intact. Here's how the experiment works. Aug 18, 2026 We may earn from vendors via affiliate links or sponsorships. This might affect product placement on our site, but not the content of our reviews. See our Terms of Use for details. Reddit is testing a new way to consume its text-heavy conversations: AI-generated audio and video versions of existing posts. The experiment uses synthetic voices to read posts and selected comments aloud while highlighting the corresponding text on screen. The feature became available on the web on August 17, with the iOS and Android rollout beginning August 18. Reddit says the test is limited to selected English-language posts in selected communities, and the company is manually choosing which posts are included. How Reddit's AI narration works. A "Read" view shows the original thread, while "Play" launches the narrated version. The original post and comments remain available, and users can still reply to the thread as usual. According to The Verge, the AI voice reads the post and selected comments while text is highlighted on screen. Reddit also labels the experience "Real conversation voiced by AI," making clear that the words came from human users even though the narration did not. One example involved an eight-year-old r/boardgames thread asking for road trip game recommendations. Reddit turned the post and responses into a roughly three-minute narrated video, showing that the experiment can reach well beyond newly published discussions. Reddit CEO Steve Huffman previewed the idea during the company's July earnings call, pointing to podcasts and other formats where people already read Reddit conversations aloud. The experiment fits into Reddit's changing relationship with AI search and content distribution as new formats reshape the value of user-generated discussions. What teams should watch as the test expands. The biggest unknown is selection. Reddit is manually choosing posts for the experiment, but it has not disclosed the criteria it uses or whether authors and commenters can opt out of having their words narrated by AI. Accuracy is another open question. The Verge noted that automated narration could mispronounce words or associate a comment with the wrong user. Neither Reddit nor the current reporting explains what correction process would apply if a narration gets something wrong. Those questions are relevant for community managers, support teams, and companies that monitor Reddit for product feedback or brand mentions. An older thread can now be repackaged into a new format without changing the underlying conversation, potentially giving past discussions a new audience. The experiment also comes as platforms tighten rules around AI content labeling, AI-generated video, and low-quality content. Reddit's approach is different because it is not generating the original conversation. It is generating the voice and presentation around it. Reddit has not announced how broadly the feature will expand. The next details to watch are which posts become eligible, whether users get opt-out controls, and how Reddit handles narration errors as the experiment grows. Reddit tests AI audio and video posts as the platform chases its own story format.

Reddit tests AI audio and video posts as the platform chases its own story format. Reddit is testing AI-generated audio and video versions of text posts, and the move feels like the platform trying to reclaim a format that other social networks have been mining from it for years. The company is experimenting with tools that can turn posts and comments into audio and video experiences, according to Engadget. The Verge also reports that Reddit is exploring AI-made formats that could make long text threads easier to consume beyond the traditional feed. This is not coming from nowhere. For years, TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels have been full of narrated Reddit posts, often paired with game footage or simple visuals. Creators discovered that Reddit stories can travel well when turned into short audio-video content. Reddit now appears to be asking why that value should live mostly outside Reddit. The idea is simple. A long post or comment thread can become something a user listens to while commuting, cooking or scrolling casually. A video version can make text feel more native to the short-form feeds where younger users already spend time. AI makes that conversion cheaper and faster than hiring narrators or editors for each post. For Reddit, the business logic is clear. The company wants more engagement, more formats and more advertising surfaces. It also wants to make its massive text archive useful in a media environment increasingly shaped by video and audio. Written communities remain Reddit's core, but consumption habits are changing. There are risks. Reddit is built on community context, tone, sarcasm, moderation norms and user identity. Turning posts into AI audio or video could flatten that context or make sensitive threads feel like entertainment. A dramatic voiceover may work for a funny story, but it may be inappropriate for grief, trauma, legal advice or health discussions. There are also creator and consent questions. Reddit posts are written by users, not by Reddit's editorial staff. If the platform turns a user's words into a video or audio product, users will want to know how attribution works, whether they can opt out and whether AI narration changes the meaning of what they wrote. This fits a wider pattern. Platforms are using AI not only to generate new content, but to repackage existing content into more consumable forms. Techbooky recently wrote about Google's AI watermark debate, and Reddit's experiment sits in the same broader conversation: AI is changing not just creation, but presentation and trust. The move also matters because Reddit has become more aggressive about the value of its data. It has signed licensing deals with AI companies and pushed back against scraping. If its communities produce valuable stories and conversations, Reddit wants more control over how that material becomes media. The test may or may not become a mainstream feature, but the direction is clear. Text platforms are no longer comfortable staying text-only. Audio and video are where attention keeps moving, and AI gives platforms a cheap bridge from one format to another. Reddit's challenge will be making that bridge useful without making its communities feel harvested. Related reading. Reddit rolls out AI audio and video versions of posts.

Reddit rolls out AI audio and video versions of posts. A limited Reddit test converts select text threads into narrated clips that keep the original posts intact and may boost discovery in search. Reddit is testing audio and video versions of text posts and comments on its apps and website, as part of what it called a limited experiment across select communities. The new formats let users listen to posts or watch them as short videos, while linking back to the original text threads, which Reddit said will remain unchanged. Reddit said the test affects a sample of posts in selected communities. The company did not say how it is choosing which posts to convert into audio or video. One early example is an eight-year-old post in the r/boardgames community asking for road trip game suggestions for adults. Reddit converted that thread into a three-minute video that narrates the original question and some top replies, with the post text shown on screen. Discover more Cloud Storage Business & Industrial The voices in that example appear to be AI-generated. Reddit said the experiment is intended to assess whether users find these post formats helpful. The company has also been adding more video tools elsewhere in the platform. In June, Reddit launched video comments, allowing users to post videos in comment threads that can then be viewed in a full-screen player. Chief Executive Steve Huffman referred to the effort during the company's earnings call last month. "There's an emerging content type elsewhere on the internet of basically podcasts where people read Reddit content, and so I think this version of like listened-to or spoken-Reddit can be really engaging as well," he said. An update dated Aug. 17, 2026 said the feature is rolling out on Reddit's website and apps.
