About the job

Requirements
  • Strong coding skills in C# and JavaScript; TypeScript experience is preferred.
  • Hands-on proficiency with ASP.NET Core, React, HTML/CSS, and RESTful Web API development.
  • Solid SQL skills, primarily SQL Server and some PostgreSQL, and experience with Entity Framework.
  • Working knowledge of SOLID principles, object-oriented programming and design, system architecture, CQRS, messaging systems such as RabbitMQ, Git, and continuous integration/deployment practices.
  • Effective use of LLM-assisted development tools, including Claude Code, in the daily engineering workflow.
  • Ability to decompose problems, direct AI tooling toward a well-defined outcome, recognize flawed designs or subtle defects, and reject output that does not meet quality standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, including collecting, analyzing, and summarizing technical issues.
  • Ability to explain complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Integrity, dependability, attention to detail, and commitment to confidentiality and data security.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 4 years of professional software development experience building and maintaining production applications across the full stack.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and shipping web applications using C#/.NET and a modern JavaScript framework, backed by relational databases.
  • Experience working within a version-controlled, CI/CD-based development process and participating in peer code review.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and ship full-stack solutions supporting laboratory operations using C#/ASP.NET Core, React/TypeScript, RESTful Web APIs, and SQL Server.
  • Translate business and laboratory requirements into functional, maintainable solutions using SOLID principles, appropriate design patterns, and CQRS where warranted.
  • Build and integrate messaging-based workflows using RabbitMQ, and maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines and development tooling.
  • Maintain code documentation and contribute to system architecture decisions.
  • Use Claude Code and comparable AI development tools for implementation, refactoring, test authoring, and investigation.
  • Review AI-generated output for correctness, security, and maintainability, and reject or rework output that does not meet standards.
  • Participate in peer code review and remain accountable for all code that ships regardless of how it was produced.
  • Investigate, triage, and resolve production and development issues affecting laboratory systems.
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize service issues; identify root causes and implement durable fixes.
  • Support laboratory staff as a technical point of contact.
  • Monitor system health and respond to incidents affecting sample processing or data flow.
  • Confer with laboratory staff, scientists, and other stakeholders to gather and clarify requirements; study system flows, data usage, and work processes.
  • Ask questions, make suggestions, and communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences; participate in UI/UX prototyping and solution validation.
  • Protect clinical and consumer genetic data confidentiality and prioritize security in design and implementation decisions.
  • Ensure laboratory system changes preserve data integrity and traceability consistent with CAP/CLIA requirements.
  • Follow validation and change-control practices for regulated systems.
  • Make implementation-level decisions within assigned work, including code structure, class and method design, algorithms and data structures, naming, refactoring within established patterns, and application of design patterns consistent with existing conventions.
  • Make local database schema changes within an owned component; choose test strategy and coverage for own work; direct daily use of AI-assisted development tools; and decide whether to accept, revise, or discard generated output.
  • Decide when generated code is not fit to ship; prioritize and sequence assigned tasks; choose troubleshooting and diagnostic approaches; and determine when to raise a question, flag a risk, or request peer or lead review.
  • Determine whether own work is ready for code review or release-candidate status.
  • Make architectural decisions affecting multiple components or services, adopt new tools or third-party services, change shared infrastructure or deployment configuration, and make other cross-component decisions under guidance.
  • Escalate changes that may affect genetic data integrity, accuracy, or traceability, or touch validated laboratory systems or processes subject to CAP/CLIA requirements.
  • Escalate suspected or confirmed security incidents, data exposure, unauthorized access, or handling of protected health information outside established procedures.
  • Escalate production incidents that halt or materially degrade laboratory operations, sample processing, or result reporting.
  • Escalate defects that may affect previously released results, reports, or data delivered to customers or clinical partners.
  • Escalate commitments to external parties, vendors, or customers, including delivery dates, contract terms, or service expectations.
  • Escalate requests to bypass change-control, validation, code review, or release procedures; regulatory, compliance, or legal questions; and decisions materially affecting budget, headcount, vendor selection, or project scope beyond assigned work.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with laboratory environments, automation, or genomics.
  • Understanding of genetics, molecular biology, PCR, next-generation sequencing, laboratory automation, liquid handlers, and robotics.
  • Practical experience using AI coding assistants in a production development workflow and experience integrating with third-party systems, instruments, or APIs.
  • Prior experience in a laboratory, clinical, healthcare, or other regulated environment, including CAP/CLIA, CLIA, HIPAA, or similar requirements and familiarity with validation and change-control requirements.

About the company

myDNA provides direct-to-consumer DNA testing and analysis to support precision health. Its pharmacogenomics service analyzes how a person’s genes influence their response to medications to help clinicians optimize drug choice and dosing, reducing adverse effects. It also offers nutrigenomics insights to tailor nutrition, fitness, sleep, and vitamin plans, with reports sent to the patient’s healthcare provider. The company operates online test kits and pharmacy partnerships and expanded globally through a merger with Gene by Gene/FamilyTreeDNA, now owned by the DBG Group; its goal is to use genetic information to improve treatment effectiveness and overall wellbeing.
