About the job

Requirements
  • At least 5 years across product management and program or delivery management for hardware, with full ownership through launch.
  • Strong program management experience holding a white-label, original design manufacturer, or contract partner to specifications, cost, and schedule while an in-house team delivers a critical component.
  • A track record as a directly responsible individual, accountable for outcomes and not just definition, comfortable with ambiguity and parallel workstreams, and willing to hand off cleanly at ramp.
  • Experience with electric vehicle charging, power electronics, inverters, or other grid-connected hardware.
  • Experience in a certification-heavy environment and comfort owning a safety and interconnection approval path end to end.
  • Experience working with automotive original equipment manufacturers, utilities, or other institutional partners whose approval gates launch.
  • Fluent, heavy use of artificial intelligence tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Grok, plus a habit of building personal tooling instead of asking for headcount and getting others to adopt it.
  • Business sense to own a business case, unit economics, and margin trade-offs leadership will rely on.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership, leading through influence and escalating well without formal reporting authority.
  • Experience running a formal gate process for hardware and a belief that discipline enables speed.
Responsibilities
  • Take over the product requirements document and product concept document, close open requirements, and lock the interface between the supplier's power electronics and the in-house Vehicle Integration Board.
  • Own the business case and unit economics, including supplier cost, board cost, installed cost, and market-supported pricing.
  • Keep competitive positioning current and recommend go/no-go decisions at each remaining stage gate.
  • Own the schedule and gate reviews across the inverter supplier, in-house board development, test, and Operations, keeping the critical path in one place.
  • Work with Manufacturing Operations to hold the inverter supplier to specifications, cost, quality, schedule, and roadmap.
  • Drive the Vehicle Integration Board through electrical and firmware development, bring-up, and testing.
  • Drive the safety and interconnection path with Engineering and Compliance, including supplier certification boundaries and system-level listing, UL 9741, ISO 15118, IEEE 1547, UL 1741 SB, and dialogue with laboratories and authorities having jurisdiction; understand platform capabilities and limitations before committing.
  • Drive automotive original equipment manufacturer engagement to produce a validated, approved vehicle list at launch, including compatibility testing and each manufacturer's approval process.
  • Work utility interconnection in every launch territory and unblock the program directly.
  • Own go-to-market work with Marketing, Business Development, and Customer Support, including positioning, pricing, launch messaging, and installer and channel readiness.
  • Land the original equipment manufacturer side of launch, including the approved vehicle list, partner coordination, and clear customer-facing compatibility guidance.
  • Own the ramp, including first installs, commissioning results, early field performance, and the decision on whether to scale.
  • Make the final decision on when and how the product ships, then hand off to Operations and Sustaining with baseline metrics, known issues, and the rationale behind key decisions.
  • After ramp, support Operations and Sustaining by answering roadmap, customer-impact, and escalation questions and supporting resolution when asked.
  • Carry field and quality lessons into the next program.
  • Automate and optimize manual, slow, or expensive steps in the product development lifecycle, challenging default approaches without diluting deliverables.
  • Use artificial intelligence to enable execution, encourage Engineering, Operations, and partners to push beyond traditional approaches, and deliver faster.
  • Build and share tools, prompts, and workflows rather than asking for headcount.
  • Provide evidence on where artificial intelligence is not working to inform the company's adoption.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with DC fast charging, vehicle-to-grid, vehicle-to-home, or other bidirectional charging products, and with UL 9741, ISO 15118, IEEE 1547, or UL 1741.
  • Automotive original equipment manufacturer program, validation, or homologation experience.
  • Utility interconnection or grid-services program experience.
  • Experience owning a board-level electrical and firmware design through validation and production.
  • A career spanning both product management and program management in a fast-paced, test- and validation-driven environment.

About the company

Emporia Energy designs and sells a home energy management system centered on the Vue Energy Monitor, which installs in a home's electrical panel to provide real-time, circuit-level energy data that users access through a mobile app. The platform integrates with Emporia Smart Plugs, Level 2 EV chargers, and home battery storage to automate energy use and shift consumption to off-peak times, reducing costs, with additional demand response and vehicle-to-grid capabilities. The company earns revenue from direct hardware sales and a white-label IoT platform for enterprise clients such as automotive manufacturers, utilities, and contractors. Its goal is to make energy efficiency affordable and accessible while supporting the energy transition by helping users monitor, optimize, and automate energy use.

Emporia Energy launches Texas Electricity Plan with free daily EV Charging windows.

Emporia Energy launches Texas Electricity Plan with free daily EV Charging windows. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Littleton, CO, June 24, 2026 - Emporia Energy today launched an EV Charging Savings Electricity Plan in Texas that gives drivers free daily windows to charge their electric vehicles. Customers keep plugging in the way they already do; the Emporia charger schedules each session into the free hours, so charging costs drop without anyone having to think about it. The free windows run both overnight and midday, on 100 percent renewable energy. Eligible customers can enroll online in minutes, with no equipment to install and no interruption to service, and keep their existing utility. Drivers still under contract with another provider can set a start date up to 90 days out. Emporia already does two things most home energy companies don't: it shows households exactly how their energy is used, circuit by circuit, and it manages their largest loads through one app that works with the EV, solar, and devices they already own, whatever the brand. With more than 400,000 customers and one of the best-selling residential EV chargers in the U.S., Emporia has the hardware in the home and the data to use it well. The electricity plan adds the missing piece. Now the same charger and app that track a customer's energy also lower the bill, by shifting EV charging to the hours when power is cheapest and cleanest. "Most EV charging already happens while people sleep. Since we make the charger and now supply the electricity, we can automatically charge when power is abundant and costs less. Customers don't have to think about it. They wake up to a charged car and a lower bill. That's good for homeowners, and when enough homes do it together, it's good for the grid too." * Shawn McLaughlin, founder and CEO, Emporia Energy The EV Charging Savings Plan is offered in Texas (within ERCOT territory) in partnership with Light, a licensed retail electricity provider. A customer's utility, such as CenterPoint or Oncor, does not change and continues to deliver power and maintain the lines. Demand management built into the plan. Flexible loads like EV charging can be shifted to periods when electricity is abundant, easing strain on the grid while helping customers lower costs. Emporia expects managing demand this way to become a larger part of how the modern grid works. Emporia EV chargers are eligible for more than 100 utility and grid programs across the country - including rebates, demand response, time-of-use incentives, and active managed charging - and already participate in programs like the Massachusetts Clean Peak Standard. The company is developing aggregator programs in additional states, including Colorado and Maine. The Texas plan extends that work to retail electricity: as customers enroll, their charging shifts into off-peak hours, a form of demand-side management built into the plan from day one. Looking ahead. A home battery plan is in design and Emporia is planning to expand into new markets within the next year. Over time, the company aims to connect millions of homes into a demand-side network that can help balance the grid, and to operate one of the nation's largest virtual power plants. Texas is the first deregulated market. About Emporia Energy. Emporia Energy builds the home energy management platform that helps Americans see, control, and now power their homes more intelligently. With more than 400,000 customers and one of the best-selling residential EV chargers in the U.S., Emporia connects homes into a demand-side energy network that lowers bills today and is building toward one of the largest such networks in the country. Retail electricity plans are offered in Texas (ERCOT) in partnership with Light, a licensed retail electricity provider. Learn more at emporiaenergy.com.
