About the Job

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and 6+ years of relevant work experience; or a Master's degree in those fields or a related field and 5+ years of relevant work experience; or a PhD in those fields or a related field and 4+ years of relevant work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Apply and extend existing internal AI tools and agent-based workflows to improve RTL design productivity.
  • Develop AI-driven capabilities for RTL code review and quality analysis, including readability, methodology adherence, and structural correctness.
  • Develop capabilities to check consistency between microarchitecture documentation and RTL implementation.
  • Develop automated debug acceleration, including waveform triage and root-cause identification.
  • Integrate AI into standard RTL development loops rather than creating parallel flows.
  • Enable AI-assisted analysis of timing, power, and area tradeoffs; microarchitectural bottlenecks and inefficiencies; and code-level improvements for maintainability and reuse.
  • Develop mechanisms to surface actionable insights early in the design cycle and improve iteration velocity.
  • Embed AI capabilities into existing toolchains and methodologies, including lint, synthesis, simulation, and debug.
  • Collaborate with CAD, design verification, and global design teams to scale AI-enabled workflows across programs and geographies.
  • Contribute to cross-team AI initiatives and working groups to align efforts and maximize reuse of internal capabilities.
  • Evolve RTL methodology by integrating AI-assisted best practices into coding standards and review processes, debug and analysis workflows, and documentation and specification alignment.
  • Ensure solutions align with established RTL principles of readability, maintainability, and cross-discipline usability.

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of AI/LLM-based engineering tools, including agentic tools such as Codex and Claude Code.
  • Experience with agent-based AI development, including prompting, chaining, and orchestration.
  • Experience with Verilog/SystemVerilog or VHDL RTL design.
  • Experience with simulation, waveform debug, and verification tools.
  • Knowledge of CPU design techniques, including logic design principles and timing/power implications, low-power microarchitecture techniques, and high-performance design tradeoffs.

About the Company

Qualcomm

Designs mobile chips and licenses wireless patents

Qualcomm designs the Snapdragon processors and modems inside many Android phones, and it licenses its wireless patents to device makers around the world. It helped commercialize CDMA, the cellular technology behind 3G networks, and its patents cover core parts of the 4G and 5G standards that phones use to connect. The company does not run its own chip factories; contract foundries make its chips, which it sells to makers of phones, PCs, cars, and connected devices. Device makers also pay Qualcomm royalties for using its patented technology, which forms a second business alongside chip sales. Qualcomm was founded in 1985 and is based in San Diego, California.
