About the job

Requirements
  • You must have served as a military medic or doctor, with first-hand operational medicine experience from point-of-injury care to the field hospital.
  • You must be a GMC-registered doctor with deep experience in resuscitation, trauma or emergency surgery, emergency medicine, or pre-hospital care.
  • You must remain clinically active, whether as a reservist, in the NHS, or in humanitarian or disaster response.
  • You must be credible with senior defence medical leaders, NHS clinicians, and investors, and comfortable being the named clinical lead for a product.
  • You must be able to turn clinical reality into clear, practical product decisions and work with engineers and designers at startup pace.
Responsibilities
  • Shape clinical workflows by mapping how casualties are assessed, treated, handed over, and evacuated from the point of injury through definitive care; translate this into product requirements and test prototypes against real resuscitation and trauma scenarios.
  • Protect patient safety by leading clinical risk management and acting as, or helping appoint, the Clinical Safety Officer under the NHS DCB0129 standard; advise on evidence needed for the medical device and regulatory pathway.
  • Represent Tricorder to defence medical services, NHS and ambulance trusts, humanitarian organisations, and investors; help the founder present the clinical story in pitches and pilots.
  • Use professional networks across defence medicine, the NHS, and humanitarian response to secure clinical pilots, user testing, and early design partners.
  • Help design pilots and early studies, and review clinical claims, protocols, and terminology across the product and its AI features.
  • Advise the founder and build team on clinical priorities and help with clinical hiring as the company grows.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience advising or working with medtech or health-tech startups, ideally as a CMO, clinical lead, or advisor.
  • Clinical Safety Officer training (DCB0129/DCB0160), or experience with medical device regulation (UKCA/CE, ISO 14971).
  • Leadership roles in defence medical services, such as a clinical lead, medical director, or command role.
  • Experience with mass-casualty planning, deployed hospital care, or global health systems.
  • Familiarity with clinical AI, data standards, or digital health interoperability.

Mama Insurance tops $2.3M in total funding as Fastweb+Vodafone leads early round

Italian insurtech Mama Insurance has raised an early-stage round led by Fastweb+Vodafone, with backing from Founders Factory and Vento. The round lifts its total funding above €2 million. The capital combines equity from the three investors, non-dilutive public funding from national and regional programmes, and bank debt. It also extends Mama Insurance's work with Fastweb+Vodafone on research, AI and digital customer experiences. The startup is building an AI-native platform to simplify how consumers buy insurance, starting with home cover. More than half of Italian households are estimated to have none. Users can get quotes and buy modular policies online in under two minutes, with underwriting from Chubb. The funds will support expansion into personal insurance and products for small and medium-sized businesses. "Home insurance is where we start, but our ambition is to build the platform that protects Italians across every dimension of life and business," said founder and chief executive officer Leonida Fini Zarri.

Fieldstone Bio joins Rio Tinto and Founders Factory mining accelerator after $2M US energy award

Fieldstone Bio, a synthetic biology company based in Woburn, Massachusetts, has been selected for the Mining Tech Accelerator run by Founders Factory with Rio Tinto. It is one of five companies in the four-month program and receives its first backing from the mining industry. Participants receive investment and operational support. They work with Rio Tinto's technical experts and use its facilities in Western Australia to adapt their technology for mines. Fieldstone's platform combines synthetic biology, hyperspectral imaging, and data analysis to measure elements in geological samples. It aims to give drill teams results in days rather than the one to two months labs can take. In June, the US Department of Energy awarded $2 million to Fieldstone, TerraCore, and MIT to develop rapid characterisation of critical minerals on drill cores.
