Synthefy raises $6.5M for number-crunching models trained on numerical data instead of words

Synthefy has raised $6.5 million in seed funding led by Wing Venture Capital, with participation from Haystack, Samsung Next, Canonical Crypto and Lightscape. The startup is developing Structured Data Foundation Models that learn from numerical data rather than text, similar to how large language models process words. The company recently released Nori, an open-source model with 30 million parameters that outperformed Google's 1.6-billion parameter TabFM model in testing. Synthefy says its models can tackle tasks like fraud detection and dynamic pricing more efficiently than traditional machine learning frameworks. The platform allows companies to deploy models without extensive data preparation or training. Nori has been downloaded more than 600,000 times since its quiet release weeks ago. The funding will support research efforts, engineering hires and development of the next generation of Nori.

Alphabet vs Meta: Which AI advertising stock is the better buy for the next five years?

Meta and Tesla rebound from oversold levels as investors eye value opportunities

Meta Platforms and Tesla, both Magnificent Seven stocks, are recovering from oversold levels based on their relative strength index (RSI) readings, potentially offering value opportunities for investors. Meta's RSI improved to 48 from 31 on 30 July, though shares have fallen roughly 10% since mid-July. The company reported second-quarter revenue of $60.8 billion, marking a 28% year-over-year increase and beating analyst expectations of $60.22 billion. However, Meta posted its first earnings per share miss in 15 quarters. Despite recent struggles, analysts maintain a moderate buy rating with approximately 32% upside potential. Tesla missed second-quarter earnings estimates for the fifth time in nine quarters and trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 384. Analysts still see roughly 18% upside for the stock.

Anthropic's revenue jumps 14x to $11.5B ahead of potential $2T IPO

Tech stocks rose in pre-market trading Monday, with the Nasdaq up 0.27%. Anthropic's preliminary quarterly revenue surged 14-fold to $11.5 billion from $787 million a year earlier, according to Bloomberg. The AI lab is preparing for a public offering in September or October, with investors targeting a $2 trillion valuation, the Financial Times reports. Meanwhile, Meta faces a trial beginning Tuesday in Oakland, California. A group of 29 state attorneys general are suing the social media company, alleging it deliberately designed its services to maximise children's screen time and caused psychological harm.

Alibaba launches laptop AI model, releases weights of most powerful Qwen3.8 Max

Alibaba launched Qwen3.8-27B, an AI model designed to run on consumer hardware like laptops, and released the weights for its most powerful model, Qwen3.8 Max. The move intensifies competition with Meta in the open-weight AI market. The announcement follows Meta's plans last week to open-source its most powerful AI model and introduce laptop-compatible versions. However, Alibaba maintains a significant lead: Qwen-based models account for 151,448 derivatives on Hugging Face, 2.6 times Meta's footprint. Alibaba said Qwen3.8-27B matches the performance of models ten times its size in coding, research, and professional tasks. Industry experts view on-device AI as the next battleground, offering faster performance and enhanced security compared to data centre-based models. "Alibaba has made Qwen the most credible non-US model family," said Nick Patience, AI lead at Futurum Group.
