Polymarket operates a decentralized prediction market where users trade crypto against outcomes of real-world events, from elections to sports. Bets are placed by buying and selling shares tied to event results; outcomes are resolved by decentralized oracles and rewards are paid in cryptocurrency. The platform blends a familiar trading interface with blockchain-based transparency and immutability, and it now operates in the U.S. through the acquisition of QCX, a CFTC-licensed exchange. Its goal is to offer hedging and speculative opportunities on real-world events while combining crowd-sourced forecasting with regulated crypto trading in the United States.

Ex-FBI officer monitors Polymarket traders full-time, CEO reveals to US regulators

Polymarket employs a former FBI officer to monitor its traders full-time, chief executive Shayne Coplan told US regulators on Thursday. Speaking at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's Innovation Advisory Committee, Coplan said the staffer built custom surveillance software in-house. The company has handed 315 or more wallet records to authorities and made 90 or more account referrals, resulting in two arrests. In April, the CFTC charged Army Master Sgt. Gannon Ken Van Dyke, who made roughly $404,000. In May, Google engineer Michele Spagnuolo was charged over allegedly clearing about $1.2 million. Coplan defended the surveillance, saying Polymarket is "the least anonymous financial market of all time" because all activity is public and on-chain.

JPMorgan cut Polymarket as banking client over regulatory concerns, despite $14.5B Series E participation

JPMorgan Chase terminated its banking relationship with prediction market platform Polymarket last October due to regulatory concerns, according to the Wall Street Journal. However, connections persist between the companies. Polymarket's CEO has spoken at three JPMorgan events over the past year, and in April the bank offered wealth-management clients access to Polymarket's Series E round, which valued the company at $14.5 billion. The development comes as JPMorgan faces scrutiny over alleged debanking practices. President Donald Trump has ordered regulators to investigate whether banks improperly closed customer accounts for political reasons. Donald Trump Jr. holds a Polymarket stake through his investment fund 1789 Capital. Polymarket is reportedly in early talks to raise approximately $1 billion at a valuation above $20 billion, according to Bloomberg.

Polymarket launches prediction markets for Pokémon card prices

Polymarket has launched prediction markets for Pokémon cards, allowing traders to wager on whether individual cards and sealed products will gain or lose value. The contracts track ungraded prices from Collectr, a collectibles pricing app. More than a dozen Pokémon markets now trade on the platform. Most lean bearish, reflecting expectations of further price declines after buyer attention shifted to newer sets in late July and early August. Volumes remain small, ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars per contract. The Mega Gengar ex contract leads with roughly $2,300 in volume. The move expands Polymarket's offerings beyond politics and crypto into pop culture. The platform files card contracts under its culture and art category, alongside markets on CryptoPunks floor prices and Banksy street art. Baltimore sued Polymarket on Thursday, alleging it operates an unlicensed sportsbook.

Polymarket acquihires Turf's six-person sports prediction team ahead of NFL season

Polymarket has acquihired Turf's six-person team, bringing the builders of the live sports prediction app in-house to work on its US platform. Turf launched on the App Store in early 2026, offering real-time NFL prediction games with play-by-play calls and live chats. The two companies previously partnered in April 2026 to integrate prediction markets into Turf's product. Polymarket described Turf as "beautifully designed & built by a team that already understood sports prediction markets." The acquisition comes during a broader hiring push at Polymarket, which has added compliance and growth executives this month. The timing precedes the NFL season and November's midterm elections, both expected to drive significant platform volume.

Polymarket appoints Travis VanderZanden as CGO to scale beyond elections and sports

Polymarket has appointed Travis VanderZanden as Chief Growth Officer to expand its prediction market platform beyond elections and sports. VanderZanden announced the role on LinkedIn, bringing experience from Uber, Lyft, and as founder of electric scooter company Bird. His background focuses on scaling two-sided marketplaces. VanderZanden said many still view prediction markets primarily for elections or sporting events, but believes the potential market is much larger. Polymarket allows users to trade contracts on real-world events across politics, economics, financial markets, weather and other topics. The appointment signals Polymarket's push to reach a wider audience. However, expansion comes amid regulatory scrutiny. On 11 August, the New York City Council opened an investigation into Polymarket and other platforms over marketing practices and potential targeting of younger users. The CFTC has also warned prediction markets about gambling concerns.
