Instagram launches AI video editor assistant for Edits app with personalised creator insights

Instagram has launched an AI video editing assistant for Edits, its CapCut competitor. The conversational tool provides personalised feedback to creators by analysing account metrics including follows, views, video retention, likes and shares, alongside trending content and audience interests. Brett Westervelt, who leads the Edits app, said the assistant identifies performance patterns and surfaces actionable insights. The tool was developed with input from creators who wanted help with analysis rather than creative work. Meta first previewed the AI assistant in June at a creator event. YouTube announced a similar conversational editing tool last week, though Meta's approach appears more analytics-focused whilst YouTube's tool assists with actual editing. Usage is limited unless creators subscribe to Meta One.

Peter Thiel's $500K Facebook loan in 2004 turned into over $1B by 2012 IPO

Peter Thiel invested $500,000 in Facebook in 2004 when the company was valued at about $5 million. The money was initially structured as a loan, then converted into a 10% stake. Eight years later, following Facebook's May 2012 IPO, Thiel had realised more than $1 billion from his early investment. He raised $640 million by selling shares during the flotation, then sold an additional 20 million securities after lock-up restrictions ended. Despite the substantial exit, Thiel retained approximately 5 million shares worth around $100 million at the time. The Facebook investment was part of a broader portfolio that included YouTube and LinkedIn. The deal stands out because Thiel's stake was established when Facebook was still a small private company, years before its dramatic growth into a public technology giant.

Meta rises 25% in September after launching Muse AI agent, but monetisation questions remain

Meta Platforms surged nearly 25% in September 2026, recovering from earlier losses to enter positive territory for the year. The rally followed the launch of Muse, a personal AI agent that can handle multiple tasks with user oversight. Muse is free to use but has usage limits. Users wanting more functionality must upgrade to a paid subscription, potentially creating a new revenue stream for Meta. However, monetisation questions remain unanswered. The company is expected to address Muse's performance during its Q3 earnings report in late October. Meta now trades at 23 times forward earnings, up from 18 times before September but still within reasonable range for a company of its size. Further stock movement will likely depend on Muse's consumer adoption rates.

HighLevel integrates with Meta's Muse AI agent to automate business workflows

HighLevel has integrated with Muse, Meta's new AI personal agent, enabling businesses to deploy Muse across their existing workflows, customer conversations, and calendars within the HighLevel platform. The integration allows businesses to use Muse for tasks including lead management, meeting coordination, and customer information updates. This marks the second collaboration between Meta and HighLevel in three months. In June, Meta selected HighLevel as an early scheduling partner for embedded appointment booking in Facebook Lead Ads. "AI that can answer questions is useful. AI that can actually get something done for your business is a whole different ballgame," said Shaun Clark, HighLevel co-founder. The connector went live on 29 September 2026, positioning HighLevel as a central operating system that allows businesses to integrate various AI tools whilst maintaining unified customer data and workflows.

Zuckerberg loses $8.9B as Meta drops 4% on Goldman AI revenue warning

Mark Zuckerberg's net worth fell $8.9 billion in one day as Meta shares dropped about 4% to $749.26 on 25 September. The decline came after Goldman Sachs warned that AI spenders need roughly $300 billion in annual AI revenue just to break even. Meta expects capital expenditures of $130 billion to $145 billion for 2026. The company spent $31.08 billion on capital projects in Q2 alone, whilst free cash flow shrank to $784 million from $8.55 billion a year earlier. Despite the concerns, Meta's Muse AI assistant logged 2.8 million downloads within two weeks of launch, overtaking ChatGPT as the top free app in the US and Canada.
