Apple's stock reached a new all-time high of $345 on Tuesday, marking a 25% year-to-date gain under new CEO John Ternus. The shares have rallied following the company's recent product unveiling earlier this month. Apple introduced the iPhone Duo, a foldable device with a 5.4-inch front display that expands to 7.6 inches when opened. The device will launch in late October, starting at $1,999. The upgraded iPhone 18 suite also went on sale worldwide last Friday, with analysts noting strong demand despite a $100 price increase. Evercore ISI analyst Amit Daryanani suggested demand is holding up well through the first week of sales. The company has risen 118,900% from its dot-com crash lows.
Southern California Edison customers can now access electricity usage data through Apple's Home app, with GridX serving as the technology integration partner. The feature, available to users with iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch running software version 27, allows customers to view hourly and daily electricity consumption, track usage patterns, and identify peak versus off-peak periods. GridX, an Enterprise Rate and Data Platform provider, handled data transformation and standardisation to enable the integration. The Home app also includes a Grid Forecast feature that identifies times when the electric grid uses cleaner energy sources like solar or wind power. The tool aims to help residential customers better understand their energy usage and align consumption with their rate plans. GridX serves nearly 40 utility and energy provider customers globally.
Apple shares hit an all-time high on 21 September 2026, touching nearly $345 intraday before settling near $339. The stock has climbed more than 36% over the trailing 12 months, pushing its market cap above $5 trillion. The rally reflects renewed confidence in Apple's hardware and services ecosystem. Strong demand for the latest iPhone models, particularly the iPhone 18 Pro and upcoming foldable iPhone Duo, has extended delivery times and lifted upgrade-cycle expectations. Meanwhile, NVIDIA's forward price-to-earnings ratio has fallen sharply from levels above 25x earlier this year, despite recent quarterly revenue exceeding $96 billion, up more than 100% year over year. Investors appear to be pricing in risks around potential slowdowns in AI capital expenditure and competition from custom chips.
Apple's new CEO John Ternus faces immediate pressure to drop Chinese DRAM supplier CXMT, whose cheap chips caused more than 100% of the company's gross margin compression. During a July earnings call, former CEO Tim Cook described memory pricing as "a 100-year flood" with exponential increases. Cook noted the DRAM market has three primary suppliers and said Apple is "evaluating all options". CFO Kevan Parekh confirmed that more than 100% of gross margin compression came from memory costs. Cook warned the company expects to pay even higher memory costs in September. Strategy Risks founder Isaac Stone Fish said there's "a real possibility" Apple moves closer to the American business community, particularly regarding memory chips. Apple has already shown domestic commitment by signing a $30 billion multi-year agreement with Broadcom as part of its US manufacturing programme.
Apple demonstrated four Mac Studios running a trillion-parameter AI model together, showcasing edge computing capabilities that could reduce reliance on cloud infrastructure. Despite this advancement, Nvidia shares rose 0.7% to $229.08, indicating investors see limited threat to its data-centre business. Nvidia generated $89 billion in data-centre revenue from $96.2 billion total sales last quarter, representing 92.5% of overall revenue. The company maintains a GF Score of 95/100 with strong profitability and growth metrics. The key uncertainty is whether local AI processing will become a structural substitute for cloud-based inference or simply add another computing layer. Apple's approach may appeal for data security and cost control in specific workloads, but hyperscale training and unpredictable peak demands continue favouring Nvidia's cloud infrastructure solutions.
