About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related manufacturing field.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience and technical knowledge in fixture design, cutter design, and manufacturing processes, including CNC, laser, assembly, and automation, within the consumer electronics industry.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, JMP software, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to make data-driven decisions.
  • Fluency in written and oral English and Mandarin.
  • Expertise in titanium or metal component manufacturing processes, including metal injection molding and additive manufacturing such as laser powder bed fusion and directed metal deposition, alongside knowledge of raw materials, assembly, testing, and customized machine development.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence and machine learning and lean factory principles, and proficiency in Python, C++, and SQL.
  • Understanding of characterization tools such as scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, MTS, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, RIB, and transmission electron microscopy, as well as computer-aided engineering or finite element analysis tools.
  • Willingness to work on-site at original equipment manufacturer factories for build support and travel frequently in Asia.

Responsibilities

  • Assess product features for manufacturability and recommend capable production processes and equipment in collaboration with Product Design and Industrial Design.
  • Provide leadership at manufacturing sites during development and product production ramps.
  • Coordinate activities and direction through clear communication between Asia- and US-based teams and vendors.
  • Develop manufacturing processes, including CNC, laser, assembly, and automation, by assessing process flows, reviewing fixture design for manufacturability, and applying proper datums to minimize tolerance stack-up.
  • Scope machining programs to optimize cycle times and develop advanced cutters with specialized coatings to achieve highly shiny or fine-texture surfaces while minimizing burrs.
  • Establish machine calibration criteria, select equipment based on capability, and work with vendors to develop, validate, and qualify new equipment from request for quotation through implementation.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to define and refine mechanical tools and fixtures, establishing process readiness to meet dimensional and cosmetic requirements.
  • Lead cycle-time reductions during new product introduction to meet mass-production targets, and review vendor in-process control specifications based on downstream processes and 2D drawings.
  • Identify, research, and qualify equipment manufacturers and suppliers to develop sophisticated equipment that fulfills supply-chain requirements.
  • Partner with Global Supply Managers to assess facilities and with Manufacture Quality Engineers to drive yield improvements through statistical process control and Pareto data reviews.
  • Work closely with fellow Manufacture Design Engineers in developing manufacturing processes.

Desired Qualifications

  • Motivation, results orientation, attention to detail, and a team-oriented approach.
