What believers are saying

  • Bombas opened Georgetown Aug. 14 and Venice Aug. 28, proving store demand.
  • More than half of in-store shoppers are new, expanding customer acquisition beyond DTC.
  • Target and nearly 500 DSW locations broaden reach across family and footwear buyers.

What critics are saying

  • Target and DSW partnerships train customers away from Bombas.com's higher-margin direct channel.
  • Three-store rollout in 2026 exposes weak unit economics by holiday traffic and conversion.
  • Private-label socks from Target, DSW, and Amazon can compress margins and commoditize Bombas.

What makes Bombas unique

  • One-for-one donation model still anchors Bombas' brand and customer loyalty.
  • Mission storytelling in stores ties retail growth to visible community impact.
  • Comfort-first socks, slippers, underwear, and tees create a broader essentials platform.

Bombas sees Venice store as a platform for growth and community impact.

Bombas sees Venice store as a platform for growth and community impact. Published: August 28, 2026, 3:00 am Last updated: August 28, 2026, 2:59 am For Bombas, the opening of its first Los Angeles store represents more than an expansion of its physical retail footprint. The company sees its new Abbot Kinney location as an opportunity to introduce new customers to the brand, deepen its connection with existing shoppers and become an active participant in the Venice and greater Westside community. "Our first stores have shown us that physical retail is about much more than sales," said Dennis Pettis, general manager of wholesale and retail at Bombas. While stores allow longtime customers to experience the full Bombas brand in person, more than half of the company's in-store shoppers are new to Bombas - underscoring the important role brick-and-mortar retail plays in customer discovery and growth. Pettis said the company's early stores have also exceeded expectations and industry benchmarks across key measures, including traffic, conversion and return rates. But success is not being measured solely through transactions. Physical stores allow customers to connect more directly with Bombas' mission and story while giving the company an opportunity to establish meaningful relationships within the neighborhoods it serves. To celebrate the Venice opening, Bombas created an exclusive Los Angeles-themed sock as a gift for its first 150 customers. Beyond opening day, the company plans to collaborate with local businesses and organizations on community events and neighborhood activations that reflect the Bombas brand while helping reinforce Venice's identity as a thriving retail destination. That local commitment is closely tied to Bombas' signature One Purchased = One Donated model. The company currently works with 434 Giving Partners across California, including 67 located within 15 miles of the Venice store. Through those partnerships, Bombas provides new, highly requested clothing essentials to organizations serving people experiencing homelessness and other forms of hardship throughout Los Angeles. Bombas has already begun building relationships with nearby organizations, including Safe Place for Youth and The Midnight Mission, where its team has volunteered and learned more about local needs. "We're looking forward to continuing to build relationships with our local Giving Partners and creating opportunities for our store employees and customers to get involved in the community," Pettis said. As the Venice store enters its first year, Bombas hopes it will become not only a place to discover its products, but also a platform for volunteerism, local partnerships and community-centered programming - embedding the brand's social-impact mission within the neighborhood it now calls home.

Fashion brands grow their Los Angeles retail presence

Fashion brands grow their Los Angeles retail presence. 2026-08-20 A wave of fashion brands, including Leset, Bombas, Sezane, Proenza Schouler, Cider and Paloma Wool, have or will soon open their first Los Angeles stores. Favorable real estate conditions, such as lower vacancy rates and decreased rent, are driving the trends, along with the city's affluent customer base and status as a luxury retail hub. Many brands, previously rooted on the East Coast, are now capitalizing on the opportunity to expand their physical presence on the West Coast, especially as New York retail space grows scarcer and pricier. Bombas named to TIME's 2026 list of Most Influential Social Good Companies.

Bombas named to TIME's 2026 list of Most Influential Social Good Companies. Great Hill Partners is pleased to share that Bombas has earned a place on TIME's inaugural list of the 10 Most Influential Social Good Companies of 2026. This recognition honors companies that are driving social impact through their innovation, influence, and leadership. Over a decade ago, Bombas launched with a simple but ambitious premise: sell 1 million pairs of its premium socks while donating an equal number to people experiencing homelessness. Socks, though often overlooked, are among the items most requested at homeless shelters and the least frequently donated. This set the stage for the company's "one purchased = one donated" model, which now extends beyond socks to include other apparel basics. To date, Bombas has contributed more than 200 million clothing items to communities across all fifty states through over 4,000 giving partner organizations. Bombas continues to expand into new channels through a wholesale partnership with Target and the opening of retail stores in New York, Florida, and Texas, bringing the brand to customers in new ways while extending the reach of its donation model. Great Hill Partners, LP is proud to support the Bombas team as it continues to scale both its business and its mission.
