Skydance shares fall 22% after warrant issue as inflation fears hit markets; Apple tops $5T

Skydance shares fell 22% on Wednesday to just over $7 after the company distributed warrants to investors. The warrants began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol SKYD.WS and closed at $2.20. Skydance issued about 471 million warrants to holders of about 9% of its common stock. The remaining 90% of the investor base, including Larry Ellison and RedBird Capital, did not receive them. The merged Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery carries nearly $80 billion in debt, and investors doubt it can find a promised $6 billion in cost synergies. Markets mostly fell after US annual inflation rose to 3.7% in September, raising fears of higher interest rates. The Nasdaq dropped 1.9% and the S&P 500 lost 1.1%. Apple rose 0.5% to $343, returning to a $5 trillion market capitalisation.

Dan Ives sees AI adding $75 per share to Apple, reiterates $400 target

Wedbush analyst Dan Ives expects artificial intelligence (AI) to add $75 per share to Apple's valuation. He reiterated an "Outperform" rating and a $400 price target, which implies 17% upside. Ives argues Apple does not need the most powerful AI model. Its base of more than 2.5 billion active devices gives it a vast audience for AI features and services. He estimates 375 million iPhones have gone over four years without an upgrade. New AI features could push some of those users to buy. Apple's fiscal third-quarter revenue rose 16% to $109.4 billion. Shares are up more than 25% this year. The average analyst target of $331.86 implies 3% downside. Apple trades at 39.1 times trailing earnings, leaving little room for disappointment.

Apple's $299 HomeView lifts shares 1.4% to $346 as paid cloud AI access looms

Apple unveiled HomeView, a $299 home device that opens a path to paid AI. Shares rose about 1.4% to $346.16 around 11:50 ET on October 14. The device goes on sale November 13 and supports personalised experiences for up to six people. Siri AI starts in beta, and personal requests need a paired iPhone or iPad with Apple Intelligence. Some server-based features have daily limits. Expanded access will eventually cost extra, though Apple has given no price. HomeView will not launch in the European Union, where Siri AI is unavailable. The shares trade 19.98% above the $288.51 GF Value estimate, which suggests investors expect strong growth.

Apple, Amazon and Microsoft launch AI gadgets from $299 to $2,599 for holiday season

Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft have each unveiled AI devices in the past week, hoping to bring generative AI into homes before the holidays. Analysts expect modest sales for now, as weak consumer sentiment and rising component costs weigh on the market. Microsoft showed a Windows laptop from $2,599 with an RTX Spark chip that runs AI without the cloud. Amazon's largest Alexa Tablet 12 Pro costs $550, and its new Alexa requires a $19.99 monthly subscription or Prime membership. Apple's HomeView smart home hub costs $299 and has a 7-inch screen and facial recognition. Its $1,999 folding iPhone Duo reaches stores next week. IDC analyst Jitesh Ubrani said the aim is to get devices into homes and teach users, laying groundwork for bigger launches.

Apple's new smart home lineup turns its "walled garden" of trust into an AI-era advantage

Apple unveiled several smart home devices on Tuesday, including the HomeView hub, the HomePod Mini 2, and Apple TV 4K. The lineup also includes indoor and outdoor cameras, thermostats, temperature sensors, a video doorbell, and a door lock. The launch marks a pivot under new chief executive officer John Ternus, who is pairing hardware growth with the services business built by Tim Cook. It also marks Apple's return to smart home products after the HomePod's failure. The strategy extends Apple's "walled garden" approach, built on trust and privacy, into the home. The iPhone sits at the centre, controlling both the devices and an AI-enabled assistant. Each new purchase may make customers less likely to leave Apple's ecosystem, which could buy the company time in the AI race.
