About the company

Blank Street operates as a specialty coffee brand focused on small, cost-efficient locations and quick, premium service. It sells high-quality coffee and fresh, locally sourced food in cities like New York, London, Boston, and Washington, D.C. Its product works through a combination of carefully sourced specialty coffees, fast preparation from compact carts or shops, and a technology layer (order ahead, customized drinks, schedule orders, and loyalty through the Blank Street app) to streamline purchasing and reward regular customers. The company differentiates itself by running smaller, lower-overhead outlets to cut costs and pass savings to customers and employees while paying baristas above-market wages, and by leveraging tech to enhance convenience and loyalty. Blank Street UK turnover jumps 71% to $74.8M as operating profit nearly triples

Blank Street UK Limited reported turnover of £58.9 million for the year ended 31 December 2025, up 71% on the prior year. Operating profit increased nearly threefold to £4.6 million from £1.6 million in 2024. Growth was driven by stronger demand at existing stores, particularly from new signature and seasonal drinks across matcha and coffee menus. Matcha continued to boost afternoon sales. The coffee chain opened 12 new stores across London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Leeds, bringing its UK total to 50 locations. This expansion doubled the number of UK cities it operates in from three to six. Blank Street plans to continue investing in product quality, innovation, and thoughtfully chosen new stores with premium in-store experiences.

New York's most viral coffee chain is officially coming to Wicker Park.

New York's most viral coffee chain is officially coming to Wicker Park. An empty Starbucks is about to become a Blank space. Tuesday October 6 2026 Chicago's coffee scene is about to get another national chain, because no one has yet reached critical caffeine mass. Blank Street Coffee, the rapidly expanding New York-born chain known for its minimalist cafes, matcha-heavy menu and aggressively Instagrammable drinks, is coming to Wicker Park. The company will apparently take over the former Starbucks space at 1588 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to Crain's. An opening date has not yet been announced. The location is a particularly prominent one, directly across from the Damen CTA Blue Line stop. The space was previously home to a Starbucks Reserve location, so Blank Street has some fairly large coffee-chain shoes to fill. Launched in Brooklyn in 2020 as a tiny coffee cart tucked into the garden of Wythe Diner in Williamsburg, Blank Street has grown to more than 100 locations across the U.S. and U.K., with the company pitching itself as a specialty coffee shop built around convenience, design and highly photogenic beverages. The menu is likely to be one of the biggest draws for Chicago's matcha set, and for those of PahRoo who love a grid-worthy coffee moment during the workday. Blank Street is known for drinks such as its shaken vanilla bean matcha and cinnamon bun latte, alongside more traditional espresso drinks, cold brews and other specialty beverages. The Chicago arrival comes in the wake of the company raising more than $100 million in venture capital this summer, fueling its already rapid expansion, which ha sincluded stores in Boston and Los Angeles. Of course, Blank Street's arrival is already prompting the sort of neighborhood discourse that accompanies any chain moving into Wicker Park. The area is hardly suffering from a coffee shortage, with longtime neighborhood favorites like The Wormhole Coffee and other cafes already clustered around Milwaukee and Damen. Local reaction online has ranged from enthusiasm to boredom, which seems pretty typical for any online reaction these days. Still, there's something to be said about more options. If nothing else, at least PahRoo all know where to get a good matcha in the near future. Been there, done that? Think again, my friend.

BREAKING: Blank Street to open new location on Comm. Ave.

BREAKING: Blank Street to open new location on Comm. Ave. By Daniela Ginsburg, Associate Campus Editor - September 21, 2026 A sign for Blank Street on 874 Commonwealth Ave. Blank Street will open a new location in Massachusetts on BU's West Campus. Blank Street, a New-York-based coffee chain, will open its next Massachusetts location on Boston University's West Campus, but students offered mixed reactions upon hearing the news. A Blank Street sign was put on the window of the vacant storefront on 874 Commonwealth Ave., between the Chipotle and Taco Bell Monday morning. BU senior Astrid Newton said she thinks it will provide a good on-campus study spot. "Always down for new coffee spots opening in Boston and more places to study and chill with friends," Newton said. The new location will be at the former site of West Campus' Starbucks, which closed as part of the company's "Back to Starbucks" turnaround plan, an effort to "streamline and rebrand" the company. Blank Street has not announced when the cafe will officially open. Blank Street did not provide comment at the time of publication. Newton said she believes the new cafe will help maintain the "Boston charm," unlike other bigger corporate chains. However, she said she is not a fan of Blank Street's menu and prefers a classic, consistent coffee. BU senior Ava Restivo said she's "very excited" for the new Blank Street on campus. Restivo said she was "upset" that smaller coffee shop chains, such as Fuel America, have closed down near West Campus, and she said she would prefer if a smaller business took Starbucks' place instead. BU junior Sophia Lu said she thinks Blank Street's coffee is "subpar" but is hopeful that the new location will provide another communal space for students. "My only expectation would be that there's more seats because I know that the other Blank Street is always so crowded and it's always so hard to get a seat," Lu said. BU junior Prapti Agarwal said she does not see Blank Street becoming a reliable study spot for students. Agarwal said that Blank Street, as a recognizable international brand, offers a "sense of familiarity" to students, but prefers smaller, locally-owned coffee shops because they have "more character." She said the "slower" environment makes them a better spot for students to study and hang out in. "I feel like Blank Street is always just so crowded and so it's a very hustling kind of coffee shop," Agarwal said. "Not a lot of people... would actually sit and study there." Blank Street valuation: $650M after $105M round, up from $500M.

Blank Street valuation: $650M after $105M round, up from $500M. Blank Street's $105 million round, led by General Atlantic, puts the Brooklyn-born coffee and matcha chain at a $650 million valuation - up roughly 30% from a year earlier - as it pushes into Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and Philadelphia on 500-square-foot store boxes. Co-Founder & GP at Six Point Ventures · 3x founder (BrandYourself, Launch.it, SPOT) · 65+ investments · Based in Boca Raton, FL 65+Investments 3xFounder $200M+Funds Tracked Quick Answer $650 million is Blank Street's new valuation after a $105 million round - $75 million primary plus $30 million in secondary sales - led by General Atlantic and closed in August 2026. That's up from roughly $500 million a year earlier, as the coffee and matcha chain expands from 90 stores toward Los Angeles and Philadelphia. Blank Street raised $105 million in late August 2026 - $75 million primary plus $30 million in secondary sales - led by General Atlantic at a $650 million valuation, up roughly 30% from about $500 million a year earlier. Existing investors Left Lane Capital, General Catalyst, and Tiger Global also participated in the round alongside General Atlantic. The coffee and matcha chain plans to use the money to push into affluent Los Angeles neighborhoods and open its first Philadelphia store, expanding a footprint built on a store format roughly a quarter the size of a typical café. Up ~30% YoY New valuation $75M primary + $30M secondary Round size NY, UK, Boston, DC Store count ~500 sq ft vs 2,000+ for Starbucks Avg. store size Blank Street valuation 2026: inside the $105 million round. Blank Street's $650 million valuation comes from a $105 million round led by General Atlantic, with Left Lane Capital, General Catalyst, and Tiger Global - all existing investors - also participating. Of that total, $75 million is primary capital going onto Blank Street's balance sheet, while $30 million is secondary: existing shareholders, likely early employees or seed-stage investors, selling shares rather than the company raising new funds. That split matters, because it means the headline $105 million overstates how much fresh growth capital Blank Street is actually deploying. From a Brooklyn coffee cart to a $650 million chain. Blank Street was founded in 2020 in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, by Vinay Menda, Issam Freiha, and Ignacio Llado, and has since expanded to roughly 90 locations across New York, Boston, Washington D.C., and six UK cities - London, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. The company has now raised approximately $214 million in primary funding across its history, including this round, according to figures reported alongside the raise. | Milestone | Detail | | Founded | 2020, Williamsburg, Brooklyn | | Valuation, 2025 | ~$500M | | Round size, Aug 2026 | $105M ($75M primary + $30M secondary) | | Valuation, Aug 2026 | ~$650M | | Lead investor | General Atlantic | | Participating investors | Left Lane Capital, General Catalyst, Tiger Global | Sources: Axios and Daily Coffee News on the round terms and expansion plans. Figures current as of September 3, 2026. The 500-square-foot bet: why Blank Street's unit economics are the real story. A typical Blank Street location occupies about 500 square feet, roughly a quarter the footprint of a full-size Starbucks café, and runs on one or two employees supported by Eversys automated espresso machines capable of producing 90 cups per hour. Monthly rent on a New York Blank Street location runs around $3,500, against $10,000 to $15,000 for a conventional independent café on the same block - a cost structure built specifically to make small, high-density urban footprints profitable at a fraction of the capital a full-format café requires. That format is also the logic behind the new markets. Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and Malibu are all dense, high-foot-traffic, high-rent neighborhoods where a 500-square-foot box with low staffing costs can plausibly work even against premium local rents - the same playbook Blank Street has already run in Manhattan and central London. The company is also opening its first Philadelphia location, adding a ninth US or UK metro to its map. Blank Street vs. Dutch Bros vs. Starbucks: small box, small multiple. Blank Street's $650 million valuation is a rounding error next to the two publicly traded coffee chains it's implicitly compared to - but its store format is also a fraction of their size, which is the entire point of the model. | Metric | Blank Street | Dutch Bros | Starbucks | | Status | Private (Series C) | Public (NYSE: BROS) | Public (Nasdaq: SBUX) | | Valuation / market cap | ~$650M | ~$9.8B-$12B | ~$121B | | Founded | 2020 | 1992 | 1971 | | Store count | ~90 | 1,136 | ~38,600 worldwide | | Avg. store size | ~500 sq ft | ~900 sq ft | ~2,000 sq ft | | New stores planned, 2026 | LA + Philadelphia (undisclosed count) | ~181 | Not disclosed by market | Sources: Dutch Bros and Starbucks market cap data, August-September 2026; Dutch Bros 2025 store count and 2026 expansion plans per Chain Store Age and ABC15; Starbucks worldwide store count per company reporting, June 2026. Blank Street figures per Axios and Daily Coffee News. Blank Street's box is a quarter the size of Starbucks and roughly half of Dutch Bros - the entire model depends on that gap holding up as it enters pricier West Coast real estate. What the headline misses. Nearly a third of this round - $30 million of $105 million - is secondary, meaning it funds existing shareholders exiting, not new stores. Only $75 million is actually available to open new locations, hire staff, and absorb the higher real estate costs of Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and Malibu, markets where even a 500-square-foot box faces materially higher rent than the New York and UK cities where the format was proven out. A 30% valuation increase in a year is real growth, but it's also modest compared to the multiples some venture-backed consumer brands commanded during the 2021 funding peak - a sign investors are pricing Blank Street more like a scaling retail operator than a hypergrowth startup. The bigger open question is whether the low-staff, automated-machine model that works in dense Manhattan and London blocks translates to Los Angeles, a market built around driving rather than walking past a storefront. Dutch Bros built its entire chain around a drive-thru-first format suited to car-dependent markets; Blank Street's walk-up box has no comparable track record west of Boston. Nothing in the company's own statements addresses that format mismatch directly. The bottom line. Blank Street closes its latest round at a $650 million valuation, up roughly 30% in a year, with a proven 500-square-foot store format now headed toward Los Angeles and Philadelphia. What it doesn't have yet is any operating history in a car-dependent West Coast market, and nearly a third of its new capital went to existing shareholders rather than the business itself. The next number worth watching isn't the valuation - it's same-store sales once the first Beverly Hills and West Hollywood locations open and the format meets a market it hasn't tested before.
