Requirements
  • An earned doctorate in nursing or an appropriate discipline from an accredited institution is required.
  • Licensure to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is required.
  • State Board of Nursing licensure is required for states where clinical assignments are performed.
  • National certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist is required.
  • Evidence of continuing education and professional memberships relevant to areas of expertise is required.
  • An academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in a collegiate nursing program, or two years at the rank of Instructor at an accredited institution or equivalent experience, is required.
  • Five years of full-time post-secondary teaching experience at an accredited institution, five years of full-time clinical experience, or a combination of the two is required.
  • Evidence of progressive leadership and academic responsibilities is required.
  • Evidence of effective teaching is required.
  • Demonstrated scholarly productivity beyond the doctoral dissertation is required, which may include contributions to professional literature, presentations at national, state, or local meetings, or grantsmanship.
  • Participation in College and/or University Committees is required.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Program Administrator and nurse anesthesia faculty to ensure that the curriculum is consistent with other advanced nurse practitioner programs and the educational standards of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.
  • Organize the curriculum to ensure a logical sequence of teaching and learning, identify minimum clinical competencies required of all graduates, participate in the didactic teaching program, and maintain program, student, and clinical faculty records in collaboration with administrative support staff.
  • Administer anesthesia one day per week to maintain clinical expertise and participate in clinical instruction of students assigned to affiliated University hospitals.
  • Participate in College and University recruitment activities, including reviewing program applications and serving on the nurse anesthesia admissions selection committee.
  • Communicate with students, course faculty, staff, and other personnel through appropriate channels.
  • Provide an environment conducive to student engagement, participation, and the assimilation and enrichment of a diverse student body.
  • Provide oversight for student advisement and remediation.
  • Serve on College committees and demonstrate an emerging leadership role.
  • Mentor didactic and clinical faculty.
  • Represent the College in appropriate University activities.
  • Participate actively in professional organizations.
  • Participate in activities that improve the quality of nursing care to consumers.
  • Contribute to the nursing profession through scholarly papers, presentations, and publications in nursing literature.
  • Use contemporary and innovative teaching methodologies in classroom, laboratory or simulation, and clinical settings.
  • Develop and begin implementing a scholarly agenda.
  • Participate in College and/or University committees.
  • Participate in professional organizations at local, state, or national levels.
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistently with the core values of the University.
