About the company

Whisk is a food technology platform that connects recipe content to grocery purchasing, evolving from a consumer app into a B2B data service for recipe publishers, brands, grocery retailers, and IoT companies. Its technology uses artificial intelligence to understand ingredients, their relationships, nutrition, and product availability across retailers, enabling partners to make their digital food content shoppable and more engaging. Unlike many consumer-focused apps, Whisk markets itself through partnerships and data services, generating revenue from these collaborations. A key milestone was Samsung NEXT’s 2019 acquisition, which integrated Whisk’s technology into Samsung and positioned it as the core of Samsung’s Food platform, aligning Whisk’s goal with creating seamless digital food experiences across Samsung’s devices. Overall, the company aims to connect recipes to shopping in a scalable, data-driven way that benefits publishers, brands, retailers, and end consumers.

What believers are saying

  • Samsung rolled out major AI Food Manager updates on May 11, 2026.
  • CES 2025 and 2026 product cycles tied recipes directly to Samsung TVs and refrigerators.
  • Samsung Food+ monetizes power users with premium scans, planning, and grocery integrations.

What critics are saying

  • Samsung owns the category, so Whisk lacks independent strategic control after 2019.
  • Mealime and other planners offer simpler, cheaper alternatives that weaken Samsung Food retention.
  • If Samsung deprioritizes Food, Whisk becomes a feature inside appliances, not a standalone company.

What makes Whisk unique

  • Samsung Food spans recipes, grocery ordering, and appliance control across Samsung devices.
  • Samsung Food AI Food Manager now recognizes packaged goods and region-specific ingredients in 2026.
  • The platform offers 240,000 recipes and global integrations across 101 countries and 23 retailers.
