  • At least 3 years of technical leadership or engineering management experience leading validation or mixed-signal engineering teams is required.
  • Strong hands-on experience in silicon bring-up, characterization, validation planning, complex debug, failure analysis, and validation of advanced mixed-signal or high-speed interface intellectual properties is required.
  • The candidate must be able to coach, mentor, and develop engineers while building high-performing technical teams.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the San Diego AMS Silicon Validation team by building a high-performing engineering organization through technical leadership, coaching, mentoring, talent development, and recruitment.
  • Remain hands-on in silicon validation by contributing to validation planning, silicon bring-up, characterization, complex debug, stress-to-fail methodologies, root-cause analysis, failure analysis, and validation execution for advanced mixed-signal intellectual properties.
  • Lead validation execution from first silicon through production readiness, ensuring high-quality technical execution, timely issue resolution, and continuous improvement across multiple product generations.
  • Partner with Design, Architecture, Register-Transfer Level, Verification, and validation teams across multiple sites to deliver complex silicon programs on aggressive schedules.
  • Build a collaborative engineering culture where engineers across multiple sites operate as one integrated validation organization, share knowledge, leverage one another's expertise, and jointly deliver program success.
  • Develop a technically balanced validation team capable of independently owning assigned AMS intellectual properties, from foundational analog intellectual properties to complex high-speed subsystem validations, while collaborating with other sites on larger multi-site programs.
  • Foster a culture where technical decisions are driven by engineering expertise, program priorities, and shared accountability rather than organizational boundaries.
  • Collaborate with validation leadership to distribute technical ownership and engineering capacity across sites, enabling balanced workload, scalable execution, and effective cross-site support throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Build strong working relationships with cross-site validation leaders by aligning technical ownership, execution responsibilities, priorities, and engineering resources.
  • Establish resilient cross-site execution models that provide timely engineering support during critical silicon milestones, including periods requiring continuous validation coverage.
  • Drive continuous improvement in validation methodologies, laboratory infrastructure, automation, artificial intelligence-assisted validation, robotic test systems, data analytics, and engineering productivity.
  • Manage multiple concurrent silicon programs by balancing technical execution, engineering priorities, resource planning, schedules, risks, and delivery commitments.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience validating advanced mixed-signal or high-speed interfaces such as SerDes, PCIe, UCIe, PLL, or Ethernet.
  • Strong understanding of analog and mixed-signal circuit operation, high-speed measurements, signal integrity, jitter analysis, equalization, and advanced silicon validation methodologies.
  • Experience working effectively across geographically distributed engineering organizations.
  • Ability to remain technically engaged while balancing engineering execution, people leadership, and program delivery.
  • Experience with validation automation, Python-based validation frameworks, artificial intelligence-assisted validation workflows, robotic test systems, machine learning, and data analytics applied to silicon validation.
  • Demonstrated success leading engineering teams within a matrixed organization, including influencing without direct authority, establishing trust across organizations, and building collaborative partnerships across geographically distributed teams.
  • Experience expanding engineering capability by developing teams that own foundational intellectual property validation and highly complex subsystem validation.
  • A proven track record of recruiting, developing, mentoring, and retaining high-caliber engineering talent.
  • Experience building collaborative engineering organizations where technical leadership, ownership, and execution are aligned to maximize overall program success rather than organizational boundaries.
  • Demonstrated success driving engineering excellence, organizational capability growth, continuous improvement, and engineering innovation in a fast-paced semiconductor development environment.

Chip selloff spreads from Asia to US as Apple launches smart home push and Meta unveils new AI model

A chip selloff is accelerating as pressure spreads from Asia to the US, according to Bloomberg's Ed Ludlow. Apple has released a new line of smart home devices, led by its HomeView Hub. The hub is the centrepiece of Apple's push to challenge Amazon and Google in that space. Meta has also released a new AI model, which it says has "frontier capabilities." The company is vying to take on OpenAI and Anthropic.

Apple launches smart home range with $349.95 lock, $249.95 video doorbell and thermostat

Apple has unveiled the Apple Home Collection, a smart home range that includes a smart deadbolt lock, video doorbell, thermostat, temperature sensor, and security cameras. The products go on sale in December. The devices work with HomeView, Apple's new smart home hub. Apple built them with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, a shift for a company that has long made its own smart home accessories. The $349.95 lock supports ultra-wideband, which detects proximity more precisely than Bluetooth and could unlock the door as an authorised user approaches. The wired video doorbell costs $249.95 and sends alerts to Apple devices. A floodlight camera, priced at $399.95, combines exterior lighting with video monitoring. The range could help Apple compete with Amazon Ring and Google Nest.

Apple unveils $299 HomeView, its first smart display, with Apple Watch-style faces

Apple has announced the HomeView, its first smart display, at an event in New York City on Tuesday. The 7-inch device costs $299 and goes on sale November 13, with preorders open now. It comes in two versions, a speaker base and a wall-mounted display, both at the same price. The launch is part of Apple's effort to revive its lagging smart home ecosystem. The square screen resembles a large Apple Watch, with swipeable, customisable "faces" that show a clock, photos, weather, or Snoopy animations. Swiping up opens a home screen with apps and widgets, running on new HomeView software rather than iOS. There is no App Store, only a curated app selection, including FaceTime, Messages, Safari, and Spotify. Setup requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.

Apple bets on the smart home to defend its iPhone moat against AI devices

Apple will hold a "Welcome Home" event at 9:00 ET, where it is expected to unveil smart-home devices. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the company will detail HomeView, a hub for controlling Apple devices in the home. The push targets a market where Apple has trailed Amazon and Google. It also responds to new AI hardware from rivals, including Meta's Charm device and VR glasses, and OpenAI's plans for a device with iPhone designer Jony Ive. Such products could end tech companies' reliance on the iPhone for distribution. Apple's stock is up more than 25% this year, ahead of Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft. Over the past month, Meta is up more than 11%, while Apple is up just over 2%.
