Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must submit to and pass the pre-employment Drug and Alcohol test and State Drug and Alcohol testing.
  • Fingerprints must clear Public Safety and FBI checks.
  • Must have graduated from high school or obtained a general education degree.
  • Must have two years of related experience and/or training.
  • Must communicate effectively in English, including speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Must read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Must write reports and correspondence and present information and respond to questions from supervisors, staff, and the public.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must hold a valid Alaska Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement.
  • Must be certified in First Aid.
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds; physical requirements also state regularly lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have driving skills and be able to drive at night.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, handle or feel objects, tools, and controls, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear, and occasionally climb or balance.
  • Must have close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must work indoors and outdoors, in noisy and overcrowded environments, and around dust, fumes, and odors; must operate power tools.
Responsibilities
  • Operate a school bus to transport pupils and other authorized personnel to and from schools, and perform related assigned work.
  • Obey all traffic laws and mandatory school bus safety regulations.
  • Maintain discipline when students are on the bus and report problems to the proper authority.
  • Keep the assigned bus clean.
  • Follow the assigned route and schedule.
  • Check the bus before each operation for mechanical defects and notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
  • Transport and discharge students only at authorized stops.
  • Complete and attend all required training sessions.
  • Adhere to all District rules and regulations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Inupiaq speaking ability and cultural experience are preferred.
