Requirements
  • A four-year college degree with a major in accounting or finance is preferred, but not required.
  • Interest in progressing toward Certified Public Accountant status is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to learn and understand Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Statutory Accounting Principles.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other software applications.
  • Ability to use technical tools to perform analysis and create efficiencies in reporting.
  • Ability to access and understand various data sources using available reporting tools to meet compliance, accounting, and operational reporting needs.
  • Ability to learn new technology and communicate effectively in oral and written form.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger entries.
  • Analyze and maintain accounting records and perform associated account reconciliations.
  • Research and resolve potential issues to ensure the accuracy of financial information.
  • Participate in projects that maintain key departmental controls.
  • Ensure proper recording and reporting based on statutory accounting principles.
  • Research, analyze, and implement changes to team processes relating to compliance and statutory rules.
  • Identify potential problems, inefficiencies, or risks and work with higher-level staff to resolve them.
  • Analyze operating cash accounts, prepare related journal entries, and generate reporting needed to ensure adequate cash flow.
  • Administer, maintain, review, and audit employee expense reports and the core system.
  • Prepare journal entries, payroll and fleet reporting, monthly account reconciliations, and related reporting.
  • Perform account reconciliations for assigned asset, liability, and expense accounts.
  • Run and modify existing reports from financial reporting systems, including the core insurance system, general ledger, BusinessObjects, and other online data access points.
  • Prepare and record journal entries and supporting computations and assist other areas with this function.
  • Complete selected elements of the month-end close process.
  • Review and prepare specific supplementary reporting.
  • Review, maintain, and approve vendor records in accordance with established procedures and controls.
  • Identify issues and exceptions relating to the cash process and reporting and work with other areas to resolve them.
  • Assist with provided-by-client items for the company’s annual audit.
  • Identify inefficiencies and streamline results.
  • Participate in specialized project teams supporting accounting department goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Encova Insurance Appoints Ramu Lingala As Chief Information Officer

Encova Insurance has named Ramu Lingala as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer, succeeding longtime CIO Tony Laska, who will retire at the end of this year.Lingala officially assumed the role on May 1 after joining the company in February to become familiar with its operations and culture.Laska, who has held key leadership roles at BrickStreet, Motorists, and Encova, will remain with the company in an advisory capacity through the end of 2025.“I want to congratulate Tony on a successful career and thank him for his unmatched contributions to BrickStreet, Motorists and now Encova,” said Encova President and CEO TJ Obrokta Jr. “I still remember recruiting him many years ago and the remarkable impact he had during the early years of BrickStreet.
