  • Be able to see and read computer screens and electronic equipment screens, documents, reports, and engineering drawings daily.
  • Be able to participate in conversations in person and by teleconference or phone and hear production-floor sounds such as safety warnings or alarms daily.
  • Be able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information, and participate in communications daily.
  • Be able to operate a personal computer, telephone, copier, fax machine, related office equipment, and electronic identification card daily.
  • Be able to carry and lift documents, tools, drawings, and electronic equipment up to 30 pounds/14 kilograms.
  • Be able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools occasionally.
  • Be able to sit for long periods in meetings and while working at a computer daily.
  • Be able to squat or kneel occasionally to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Be able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor and walk through office and production areas, including uneven surfaces, daily.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment, which may include safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators/masks, and protective gloves as required by the site or customer site. Steel-toed shoes are required for shop-floor visits; appropriate hearing and eye protection may also be required.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and evolution of network architecture across VPNs, firewalls, RF relays, Starlink links, and Ground Control Station connectivity as deployments scale to a larger fleet.

  • Maintain network topology documentation, interface definitions, and configuration standards across GCS variants and deployment sites.
  • Diagnose and resolve network issues, including degraded or intermittent RF and satellite links, interference, obstruction, latency, packet loss, routing, and connectivity problems, primarily through remote troubleshooting.
  • Establish network monitoring, logging, alerting, and health-check capabilities to identify and surface network issues proactively.
  • Build diagnostic tools and dashboards, or partner with Software Engineering to develop them, to give operators clear and actionable visibility into network health.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for network issues beyond operator or first-line troubleshooting capability.
  • Provide occasional in-field support for complex network or communications issues that cannot be resolved remotely.
  • Identify recurring network failure modes, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions that improve system reliability and reduce operator IT support burden.
  • Apply secure network design practices, including network segmentation, secure remote access, VPN/encryption, firewall configuration, authentication, and access control across UAS and ground network infrastructure.
  • Configure and harden Windows, Linux, VPN, firewall, and other network devices using established security baselines and configuration-control practices.
  • Support vulnerability identification and remediation, security logging and monitoring, patching, and network security improvements across deployed systems.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, secure configuration standards, troubleshooting guides, and operator documentation that enable field personnel to resolve common issues without deep networking expertise.
  • Ensure cybersecurity, network configurations, monitoring capabilities, and documentation remain standardized and maintainable across GCS variants and deployment locations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Cisco CCNA or CCNP certification, or equivalent vendor certification.
  • Relevant military communications/signal corps training or certification.
  • Relevant network or cybersecurity certification such as Security+, CCNP Security, or CISSP, or equivalent practical experience.

Airbus tests US-built Valkyrie drone in Europe, eyes 2029 delivery at about $22M per unit

Airbus has flown a US-built Valkyrie drone in Europe for the first time, aiming to show that regulatory barriers to military drones in European airspace can be overcome. The September 29 flight over northern Europe did not yet include Airbus' European mission system, said Michael Schoellhorn, chief executive officer of Airbus Defence and Space. The drone, developed by US-based Kratos Defense, reached Mach 0.8. Airbus hopes to team it with Eurofighter jets and supply the German Air Force with combat drones by 2029. The next test flight, with Airbus' MARS Mission System on board, is expected in the first quarter of 2027. A first flight with a Eurofighter is scheduled later that year. Schoellhorn put the cost at around €20 million per unit and estimated German needs at around 500 drones.

Airbus A350F freighter completes maiden flight with 4.3m cargo door for servers

Airbus has successfully completed the first flight of its A350F freighter, bringing the aerospace giant closer to delivering a high-capacity cargo aircraft. The plane took off from Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, France, flying for four hours and ten minutes and reaching 25,000 feet. The A350F can carry a payload of 109 tonnes, compared to 64 tonnes for the existing A330F. It features a 4.3-metre cargo door large enough to accommodate turbofan engines and high-density computer servers. Airbus claims the A350F is more efficient than Boeing's rival 777F, despite having slightly less capacity. The company has already received orders for 115 A350Fs. A second test aircraft is nearly complete as Airbus begins the certification process requiring hundreds of test flights.
