Requirements
  • Experience as a licensed phlebotomist or experience in a clinical laboratory.
  • Prior experience utilizing clerical, computer, and receptionist skills.
  • Current Phlebotomy Certificate CPT I issued by the California Department of Public Health.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and demonstrate strict adherence to best clinical practices.
  • Confidence in phlebotomy skills and a strong understanding of customer service.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Office Suite computer skills for support functions.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and grammatical skills to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Awareness of chemical hygiene protocols and handling requirements for biohazard materials.
  • Organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
Responsibilities
  • Collect blood samples using standard venipuncture and microtainer techniques for all age groups.
  • Perform venous and capillary blood specimen collection using established safety practices.
  • Perform finger sticks and heel sticks.
  • Collect blood cultures without contamination.
  • Receive laboratory specimens and process samples for laboratory testing.
  • Perform clerical and client-service functions in the laboratory and draw-station sites.
  • Travel to additional sites when needed.
  • Use the Laboratory Information System to order tests, collect specimens, locate test results, process and handle specimens, and monitor pending logs.
  • Follow departmental and regulatory policies for proper patient and specimen identification.
  • Rotate among different outpatient draw stations.
  • Perform accurate and timely data entry of patient information, answer and transfer phone calls, fax, print, file, clean, and organize.
  • Perform other assigned duties, including charge entry and charge review.
  • Identify and resolve preanalytical specimen issues.
  • Build collaborative professional relationships and provide quality healthcare.
  • Work independently in a professional, team-oriented environment.
