Requirements
  • Fellowship in psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or an equivalent qualification as determined by the Department of Psychiatry.
  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
Responsibilities
  • Attend to or serve as consultant physician for ambulatory patients in the Operational Stress Injury Clinic.
  • Conduct, order, and ensure appropriate psychiatric assessments, psychosocial and laboratory investigations, and pharmacological and psychosocial interventions according to current standard practice.
  • Participate in the psychiatry on-call schedule as required within the clinical program unless specifically exempted.
  • Share short-term coverage of other services during holidays or illness of other staff members.
  • Provide clinical direct and indirect care as part of an interdisciplinary Operational Stress Injury service delivery model.
  • Maintain Operational Stress Injury-specific workload measurement, outcome monitoring, and data collection, including RAI, as required.
  • Provide clinical desk-side teaching and didactic education.
  • Perform clinical administration.
  • Provide on-call service.
  • Supervise junior staff, including residents and clinical clerks.
  • Support research as needed and conduct research if desired.
  • Provide didactic teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education levels as determined with the Director of Education, Department of Psychiatry.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience assessing police officers, Canadian Forces members, and Veterans with operational stress injuries, including post-trauma, anxiety, mood, and substance-use conditions.
  • A sufficient track record in mental health research may qualify the candidate for protected research time, subject to agreement with the Department of Psychiatry's research and executive leadership.
