Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an Associate of Science in Nursing required.
  • Minimum 4 years of previous experience as a registered nurse in a medical-surgical setting.
  • Must be currently working in a medical-surgical unit.
  • Knowledge of patient- and family-centered practice, including how to convey respect and collaborate with patients, families, and designated care partners in care and care planning.
  • Knowledge of cultural awareness and the ability to connect effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques, including respectfully delegating to other team members.
  • Knowledge of patient assessment and care, including the ability to assess ailments and injuries and implement a treatment plan.
  • Knowledge of child and adult education techniques and the ability to educate patients and designated care partners about conditions, treatments, medications, and recovery steps.
  • Knowledge of medication administration and prescriptions, including medications used to treat patients and their application to continuing treatment outside the hospital.
  • Knowledge of discharge planning and the ability to develop discharge plans and arrange follow-up care with patients and families or designated care partners.
  • Knowledge of assessment and diagnosis tools and techniques for nursing diagnosis or clinical judgment.
  • Knowledge of health information documentation methods, including recording medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Proof of completion of a stroke course.
  • Licensed registered nurse in Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities
  • Use the nursing process to address the physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs of patients.
  • Develop nursing plans of care with patients and their designated care partners that address individualized needs and priorities and reflect cultural beliefs and values.
  • Interact with co-workers, patients, families, designated care partners, and other staff in accordance with Jefferson values.
  • Integrate evidence-based practice, clinical expertise, patient and family preferences, and cultural beliefs and values to deliver optimal healthcare.
  • Identify patient and designated care partner learning needs and provide useful, understandable, and affirming education.
  • Minimize risk of harm to patients and others by following established nursing practices and protocols.
  • Use information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate errors, and support ethical decision-making.
  • Use data to monitor care-process outcomes and apply improvement methods to design and test changes that improve patient-care quality and safety.
  • Function effectively within nursing and interprofessional teams to achieve quality patient care through open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making.
  • Provide safe, compassionate, and coordinated care based on patients' personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
  • Create an environment of belonging and inclusion and apply problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Pursue continued professional growth and development and serve as a primary preceptor for appropriate staff members.
  • Participate in hospital- and practice-setting committees, including safety and quality-improvement committees.
  • Give and receive feedback and integrate appropriate changes into practice.
  • Float to all intensive care units within the Central and Eastern Region.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, or an appropriate advanced degree within three years of hire is strongly preferred.
