About the company

Medline makes and distributes medical and surgical supplies for hospitals, surgery centers, nursing homes, physician offices and other care sites. It runs its own factories alongside a large network of warehouses and delivery routes, so one company can produce exam gloves, gowns and surgical kits and then deliver them straight to the bedside. Many health systems sign multi-year prime vendor agreements that make Medline the source for most of their medical-surgical supplies. It earns money selling its own products and those of other manufacturers, together with supply chain services. Medline was founded in 1966 and is based in Northfield, Illinois.

What believers are saying

  • Sales keep climbing: net sales rose 11.6% to $7.7 billion in the April to June 2026 quarter.
  • Medline pays for school: full-time staff get 80% of tuition reimbursed, starting 30 days after hire for undergraduate study.
  • A deep network absorbs shocks: losing its Tracy, California warehouse in June 2026 cut only about 4% of US space.

What critics are saying

  • Quality lapses hit stock grants: shares fell 7% after a May 2026 FDA warning over contamination at a Medline plant.
  • Tariffs squeeze profit: second-quarter 2026 net income fell 58% to $139 million as tariffs raised product costs.
  • Buyout firms still hold sway: Blackstone, Carlyle and Hellman & Friedman each kept about 18% of Medline after listing.

What makes Medline unique

Medline launches enhanced TrackPoint(TM) to simplify inventory management for post-acute care.

Medline launches enhanced TrackPoint(TM) to simplify inventory management for post-acute care. Oct 12, 2026, 16:25 ET Combines real-time inventory tracking with PointClickCare(R) integration to reduce manual work and improve supply visibility NORTHFIELD, Ill., Oct. 12, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - Medline (Nasdaq: MDLN) today announced the launch of an enhanced version of TrackPoint(TM), its online inventory management and patient item usage solution designed to help long-term care and inpatient hospice providers more easily track supplies from Medline, capture patient-level usage and gain visibility into inventory across locations. TrackPoint provides an easy-to-use solution that helps facilities streamline how they order and manage supplies purchased from Medline. The platform gives providers greater control over supply management by automating manual workflows and enabling more accurate tracking of what is on hand, where products are used and when replenishment is needed. "We know that our customers, especially in post-acute care, often don't have access to inventory management solutions and charge-capturing systems purpose-built for them," said Dave Kordik, vice president customer technology solutions, Medline. "Everything is very manual. We saw an opportunity to provide a more streamlined, modernized application for them." TrackPoint integrates with PointClickCare(R) for real-time patient data synching and helps providers improve inventory efficiency through several core capabilities: * Real-time Medline inventory visibility to understand what is on hand, where it is located, and what needs to be restocked. * Patient item and service usage tracking to support more accurate documentation and data needed for proactive care and operational efficiency. * Standardized workflows to create consistent processes for receiving, dispensing and tracking supplies and services. * Reduced manual work and errors through digital processes and barcode scanning. * Simplified purchasing through Medline.com to streamline ordering and reduce duplicate data entry. * Accurate multi-location inventory to manage multiple facilities for better counts and replenishment to align supply spend with patient needs and services delivered. "Our goal is to make inventory management easier and more actionable for long-term care and inpatient hospice providers," said Renee Fisher, senior vice president, national field sales, post-acute care, Medline. "We're excited to help customers improve visibility into supply usage, streamline everyday workflows and make more informed decisions that support both operational efficiency and patient care." About Medline Medline is the largest provider of medical-surgical products and supply chain solutions serving all points of care. James River Home Health selects Medline vendor.

James River Home Health selects Medline vendor. Medline announced it signed a new Prime Vendor agreement with James River Home Health & Hospice, a home health and hospice provider serving patients and families across its care network, a James River Home Health Medline Prime Vendor arrangement aimed at supporting the provider's growth. What the James River Home Health Medline Prime Vendor agreement includes. Through the agreement, James River gains access to Medline's medical-surgical product portfolio and distribution capabilities, intended to streamline ordering and timely, reliable delivery of supplies. The Prime Vendor model typically consolidates a provider's purchasing with one distributor, which can simplify logistics and standardize the products clinicians use. Clinical tools added to the arrangement. James River will also implement Medline's Skin Health Program and use the NE1 Wound Tool, which helps clinical staff assess and document wounds. Pairing supply purchasing with clinical programs suggests the agreement is meant to support care consistency as well as procurement. James River's rationale for the James River Home Health Medline Prime Vendor deal. David Gilligan, CFO of James River Home Health & Hospice, described the organization as a growing provider focused on expanding access to high-quality care. He said building infrastructure and partnerships to support clinicians and maintain consistency is a priority, and that Medline's scale, expertise, and post-acute focus make it a strong partner as James River serves more patients. Why consistency matters as providers grow. Expanding home-based providers often add clinicians and locations quickly, which can produce variation in the supplies and documentation practices staff use. Standardizing on a single vendor and shared tools is one way to keep practices uniform across a growing network. Medline's perspective on the James River Home Health Medline Prime Vendor agreement. Renee Fisher, senior vice president of national field sales for post-acute care at Medline, said the company is proud to work with James River as it expands access to home-based care. She said the combination of reliable product access and post-acute supply chain solutions is meant to let James River's teams stay focused on patients and families. About Medline. Medline describes itself as the largest provider of medical-surgical products and supply chain solutions serving all points of care, employing more than 45,000 people worldwide and operating in more than 100 countries. The company trades on Nasdaq under MDLN and is headquartered in Northfield, Ill. How the James River Home Health Medline Prime Vendor agreement fits home-based care trends. The announcement reflects a theme raised at recent home-based care events, where operators said growth must rest on operational infrastructure and discipline. Supply chain reliability, clinical documentation, and compliance are part of that backbone, particularly as federal fraud enforcement and documentation scrutiny continue to affect home health and hospice providers. Why Wound documentation is a notable detail. Wound assessment and documentation are areas where consistent records matter for both clinical care and payer or regulatory review. Providing a standard tool for staff may help James River document care uniformly, though the announcement did not describe outcomes or metrics. What the James River Home Health Medline Prime Vendor agreement means going forward. The agreement gives James River a single supply and clinical program partner as it grows, and it gives Medline another post-acute customer. Because financial terms, contract length, and the size of James River's network were not disclosed, the practical impact on costs and operations cannot be assessed from the announcement alone. What to watch going forward. Observers will likely watch whether James River reports operational or clinical results from the Skin Health Program and NE1 Wound Tool, and whether more home health and hospice providers pursue similar prime vendor and clinical program bundles. As a company announcement, the James River Home Health Medline Prime Vendor news is best read as a signal of provider growth and vendor consolidation in post-acute care rather than as evidence of measured performance gains.
