About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant engineering program management experience.
  • At least 3 years of engineering program management experience in consumer electronics or embedded systems, with direct ownership of firmware, software, or hardware/software system integration programs from concept through mass production.
  • A solid technical foundation in embedded firmware and software systems sufficient to engage with engineers on architecture tradeoffs, integration dependencies, and debug escalations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing hardware, firmware, and software co-development programs with multiple interdependent teams, including silicon bring-up, firmware feature development, factory qualification, and operating system integration.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain program schedules reflecting engineering complexity, identify critical paths, track milestones, model risk, and recover programs when schedules slip.
  • Experience running bug triage, tracking bug burn-down, and producing data-driven projections toward release readiness.
  • Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with engineers, cross-functional partners, and senior executives, including writing concise one-page summaries and presenting to leadership.
  • Ability to operate in ambiguity, clarify scope, build structure, raise risks, and make decisions with incomplete information.
  • Familiarity with Agile and iterative development models as applied to firmware and embedded software programs.
  • Ability to use AI tools, such as large language model assistants and agentic workflows, to accelerate program deliverables; integrate AI into daily workflows; and review and validate outputs before sharing them with stakeholders.
  • Ability to stay current with AI tools through hands-on experimentation and self-directed learning, assess where AI can accelerate engineering program management and where human judgment remains necessary, and understand AI-related responsibilities for output quality, data integrity, and compliance awareness.
Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end program plan, including schedule creation, critical path management, milestone tracking, and risk-mitigation planning across firmware, hardware, and system integration workstreams from concept through release.
  • Lead structured program reviews across the product development lifecycle and ensure cross-functional alignment at each phase gate, including architecture and schedule reviews, validation strategy, and release readiness.
  • Manage bug tracking, run regular bug review meetings with firmware and software directly responsible individuals, maintain burn-down plans, use historical data for projections, and own the convergence plan from feature completion to release.
  • Keep HID core teams, cross-functional partners, and leadership aligned with accurate, timely, audience-tailored updates; translate technical developments into clear summaries for engineers and executives.
  • Partner with firmware and hardware technologists to surface technical risks, propose mitigation strategies, and escalate risks to leadership.
  • Collaborate with factory teams during hardware build stages and drive early field-failure analysis after release to detect systemic issues before they reach customers.
  • Establish communication infrastructure, defect-tracking structures, and screening workflows, and ensure HID is represented and aligned across cross-functional program gates.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master of Science degree is a plus; equivalent hands-on industry experience in firmware or embedded systems program management may be considered in lieu of formal degree requirements.
  • Prior hands-on engineering experience in firmware, software, or systems.

Apple's $1,999 foldable iPhone Duo wins strong early reviews as preorders sell out into 2027

Apple's first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, is drawing strong early reviews, with several technology publications ranking it among the best foldable smartphones yet. Reviewers praised its engineering, durable build and barely visible display crease. The device opens from a 5.4-inch outer display into a 7.6-inch inner screen, which Apple says is 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max screen. It starts at $1,999. Reviews were not all glowing. The Verge cited first-generation compromises, including uneven third-party app optimisation. The Duo also lacks Face ID and a dedicated telephoto camera. Demand looks strong. Preorder delivery estimates have slipped into late 2026 and early 2027.
