Manufacturing Quality & TestQuality Engineering

About the job

Requirements
  • A track record owning manufacturing and quality outcomes for complex hardware from new product introduction through production ramp and sustaining operations.
  • Understanding of high-performance computing hardware and manufacturing and quality risks across component, system, and rack integration, including L6, L10, and L11.
  • Experience building integrated readiness plans, managing qualification gates and dependencies, and using technical evidence to make release recommendations.
  • Significant experience working with multinational JDM/CM partners on manufacturing readiness, process controls, yield improvement, quality, reliability, and issue closure.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical Design for Quality (DFQ), Design for Excellence (DFX), Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Test (DFT), and Design for Reliability (DFR).
  • Experience leading structured problem solving and root cause analysis using methods such as 8D, 5 Whys, and fishbone analysis, including validating corrective-action effectiveness.
  • Experience using statistical methods and manufacturing and quality data to assess yield, defects, process capability, and reliability, and communicating findings through supplier and line scorecards.
  • Experience qualifying processes or sources, evaluating technical equivalency, and managing risks across suppliers, sites, and product or process interfaces.
Responsibilities
  • Own integrated manufacturing and quality readiness for products across L6, L10, and L11, with clear gates, milestones, deliverables, owners, and closure criteria.
  • Lead readiness of process flows, tooling, fixtures, assembly operations, test interfaces, and production controls; review and contribute to work instructions.
  • Translate product requirements into qualification plans, process controls, test requirements, and acceptance criteria with design engineering and Area SMEs.
  • Coordinate and drive product and process qualification, reliability testing, and validation with relevant SMEs; maintain traceable evidence that assigned products and processes meet agreed performance, reliability, and compliance requirements.
  • Own the supplier and line scorecard; use yield, defect tracking, process capability, and reliability data to assess process health, identify trends and escapes, prioritize improvements, and verify their effectiveness.
  • Lead containment, failure analysis, root cause investigation, and corrective actions for issues affecting the program during development, production, and deployment; drive actions to closure with evidence that fixes are effective and sustained.
  • Work on-site with Area SMEs at supplier and sub-supplier locations to assess line readiness and process execution, troubleshoot issues, and verify implementation of agreed controls and corrective actions.
  • Lead JDM/CM manufacturing and quality audits and performance reviews for the program, and drive readiness, process, and control gaps to closure.
  • Assess the manufacturing and quality impact of design, process, source, and site changes; coordinate validation and control updates with responsible engineering and sourcing owners.
  • Provide evidence-based release recommendations using readiness gate status, qualification and control evidence, containment status, and remaining risks and actions; make unmet criteria clear to responsible approval owners.
  • Manage multiple projects, track progress against milestones, communicate priorities and risks across functions, and coordinate risk mitigation to meet schedules and quality standards.

About the company

OpenAI researches and builds artificial intelligence models and turns them into products for people, developers, and businesses, with a stated mission of making sure artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity. Its launch of ChatGPT in 2022 brought generative AI into everyday use. People use ChatGPT to ask questions, write, code, and analyze files, developers build OpenAI's models into their own apps through its API, and its Codex agent works through coding tasks on its own. OpenAI earns money from ChatGPT subscriptions, business plans, and API usage. Sam Altman, Elon Musk, and others co-founded it in 2015; it is based in San Francisco and overseen by a nonprofit, the OpenAI Foundation.

What believers are saying

  • Sales are compounding: OpenAI's yearly revenue pace doubled from $24 billion in March 2026 to nearly $50 billion in September.
  • Equity turns into cash regularly: staff sold $7 billion of shares in August 2026, after $6.6 billion in October 2025.
  • Room to grow: OpenAI plans to nearly double staff to 8,000 by year-end and listed 816 openings in October 2026.

What critics are saying

  • Its chief rival pulled ahead: Claude maker Anthropic's $965 billion valuation in May 2026 topped OpenAI's $852 billion.
  • Profits are years away: OpenAI's own forecast, reported in September 2026, shows $278 billion of cash burn through 2030.
  • Expect leadership churn: 15 senior leaders, including the revenue and applications chiefs, left OpenAI between January and September 2026.

What makes OpenAI unique

  • A nonprofit is in charge: the OpenAI Foundation appoints OpenAI's whole board and held a 26% stake in October 2025.
  • ChatGPT reaches about one in seven people on Earth: 1.2 billion used it each week as of September 2026.
  • Microsoft is a major part-owner: it held about 27% in October 2025 and licenses OpenAI's models through 2032.

AIM Intelligence joins OpenAI's partner network, launching Stinger-Daybreak security assessments

AIM Intelligence, a Seoul-based AI safety and security company, has expanded its cybersecurity collaboration with OpenAI. It unveiled an application security assessment service that links its AI blue-teaming platform, Stinger, with OpenAI's Daybreak cybersecurity program. The service combines code vulnerability analysis using the Daybreak Blue model, runtime testing with Stinger, and expert review. It covers AI applications, web services, and APIs, and weighs flaws against an application's permissions, configurations, and data flows to show which to fix first. Results include reproduction evidence for validated findings and remediation guidance. The service is aimed at Korean organizations. On October 22 at OpenAI DevDay Exchange Seoul, OpenAI introduced AIM Intelligence as a Select Partner in the OpenAI Partner Network.

OpenAI launches Decisions API to rival TypeSafe, the $7.6B startup behind Jev

OpenAI has made its Decisions API model widely available, entering a market that recently made TypeSafe, a startup founded by a former OpenAI researcher, a $7.6 billion company. The API became available to all customers on Thursday. Decision models act as super classifiers: given a set of options, they choose quickly and rate their confidence. Developers use them in place of large language models to work faster and at much lower cost. OpenAI built its version by reconfiguring ChatGPT Luna. Product lead Nikunj Handa said response times fell from one to three seconds to 100 to 180 milliseconds. Speak, which builds AI language tutors, cut the time between actions from 1.4 seconds to 0.13 seconds. Other early customers included Box, Datadog, and Ramp. On public benchmarks, OpenAI's model ranks eighth and fourteenth, behind TypeSafe's Jev model.

Defenders' window narrows as Chinese AI models close in, while Meta posts $64.6B revenue

Meta said third-quarter revenue rose 26% to $64.6 billion, slightly above its forecast, and announced a new class of nonvoting common stock to raise capital for its AI spending without diluting chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg's control. Shares rose 2% in after-hours trading. Existing shareholders will get one Class C share for each Class A or B share they hold. The stock can be issued from January 19. Meta gave no timing or size for an equity offering. Free cash flow was negative $2.12 billion, against positive $10.63 billion a year earlier, due to AI investment. Full-year capital spending is expected at $135 billion to $145 billion, within its earlier range. Operating income fell 37% to just under $13 billion, partly due to a nearly $10 billion legal charge. A New Mexico judge also ordered Meta to pay $25 billion in a Cambridge Analytica case.
